Peter Stormare’s Lucifer is phenomenal and one of the first characters I think of when I hear the phrase “One Scene Wonder”. I’m also glad they went with Stormare’s idea for the costume instead of making Lucifer look like an extra from a Mad Max movie

love how it portrays his power in this though to me the best and most accurate (in the beginning anyway) portrayal of Lucifer was in season 5 of Supernatural with Mark Pellegrino. He never lies but he twists the truth to make you believe what he wants. He's a fallen archangel and not a demon and is jealous of humanity.. pretty Bible accurate

Also, Lucifer wearing white makes TOTAL sense, as he WAS the Morningstar, one of the first angels before the fall. The whole...red devil thing...is an artist's rendition of him. He'd look no different than anyone else, and remember...According to scripture, Lucifer thought HE was the good guy in the beginning. It's a really cool touch on the part of the director and writers. Plus, Peter Stormare is just chilling in the role. Awesome.

The "no suicides" thing with the sister is a pretty strict rule. There were even special dispensations for 9/11 jumpers - they were declared to have been forced out of the towers and to have chosen 10 seconds more life, so they were not classed as suicides, and could therefore be buried properly. The Church makes its share of mistakes, but it got that one right.

My goodness, I love this movie. I remember borrowing the DVD from Netflix in the mail and I probably watched it half-a-dozen times in a week. There's just something about this movie that feels so gritty/dirty and sprinkles in the supernatural without overdoing it. I think it does a great job keeping the movie grounded as much as possible with the higher elements it contains. And Stormare in the white suit is just perfect. He really did do such a good job being flat out...creepy. The parts where he sticks his tongue out or wouldn't light the cigarette stand out. He's a creepy tease one moment, but the next he's busting down doors and knocking down angels. I cannot wait for the sequel to this gem.

I liked this movie even though it's not really faithful to source material, it's got a great cast and a pretty creative story. But the character of John Constantine in his original incarnation as the cynical Hard-boiled Scouse magician/con man is a unique thing in Comics. It's a shame that the Matt Ryan series didn't succeed on it's own terms. But at least the Keanu film brought more awareness to the character. Still holding out hope for Guillermo Del Toro's Justice League Dark! The comic book storylines written by Delano, Ennis, Mike Carey, and the character's appearances in the Sandman stories are really defining. Matt Ryan has also been doing a great job voicing John Constantine in the appearances in the DC Animated Universe (Justice League Dark/Apokolips)

This movie got a ton of flak from the comic book community back when it came out because it diverged from the comic so much, but as a fan of the comics I didn't mind considering there's always changes made when adapting comics for the screen. Taken on its own merits this movie is excellent, and there's rumors of a sequel in pre-production as we speak.

For early Keane Reeves there is Dangerous Liasons, a movie that went huge despite being an historical film, starring John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeifer and young Uma Thurman. It’s a really fun tragedy, and won Glenn Close an Oscar. Then for a Fantasy movie that went unusually huge, there is Ladyhawke starring Michelle Pfeifer, Rutger Hauer and a young Matthew Broderick.

Time works different on other planes of existence. That's why her trip to Hell was instantaneous to Constantine.

I saw this when it came out. I did like it. It did end as if they expected sequels but I guess it fell short of expectations. Box Office worldwide was $230 million in 2005. Adjusted for inflation that’s over $460 million in 2023. That sounds like a hit to me. There should’ve been a sequel.

Don't forget the end credits scene, it's a good setuo for a potential sequel.

To answer your question about the cat. In many cultures cats are seen as creatures that can walk between realms and are guardians of the underworld. The water itself also, in many cultures is seen as a form of doorway, a transition point. The cat and the water combined allowed for a quick transition.

Apparently, Constantine 2 is in production and has survived the pruning from WB! Keanu Reeves and Peter Stormare are set to reprise their roles as Constantine and Lucifer, respectively.

Keanu said that he would love to do another Constantine and we been all waiting for it and he died in John Wick so he is free to do now ... maybe we will get lucky the casting was crazy so there is only a very smidge of a chance

The first of 6 films to be based on DC's Vertigo imprint, released months before Batman Begins and the directorial film debut of Francis Lawrence (Hunger Games, Iam Legend). John Constantine is among the most beloved anti-heroes of the supernatural realm. Originally a British character based on legendary artist, STING. His earlier comic series was called "HELLBLAZER" and the movie's plot is from the 'Dangerous Habits' storyline. Constantine has interacted with other DC characters. But his love/hate relationship with Lucifer Morningstar is just as constant in the bigger scheme of things. Keanu Reeves got the role when originally It would've been Nicolas Cage, who went on to be another supernatural hero, Marvel's Ghost Rider, who Keanu Reeves had actually wanted to play since childhood. British actor Matt Ryan portrayed Constantine (2014-2021) between live-action television and animated films. Keanu Reeves will return in another movie as Constantine with director Lawrence and is also rumored to be part of the long-awaited Justice League Dark film.

There's actually a T.V. series of Constantine as well, back when they brought other DC characters to T.V. like Arrow, The Flash and such. The series has its ups and downs, but the John Constantine from that series and the other characters like Chaz did such a terrific job that I actually prefer the series to this movie.

At the beginning, Gabriel has a point (and this was kinda the point a priest made many years ago, in my village's church).. Something along: "If one does a good deed because one wants to go to heaven.. It is not a good deed. That's a means to an end. A good deed comes with no second intentions".
this ending SHOCKED me | *JOHN WICK 4*
