I review, breakdown and explain Constellation Episode 5. I discuss the Apple TV+ show which stars Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks. I react to the scenes in space, back on earth, and the mysteries behind everything going on. I also give my theories and predictions on future episodes.

Noomi Rapace is such a great pick for the role. She is caring and disturbing at the same time. She is also a believable scientist and astronaut.

Henry has made it crystal clear the observer effect is the key to the CAL experiment. Anyone who looked at the CAL while it is active is affected and probably entangled. Since Jo took the CAL device with her, she and Alice are the most affected by it. The show creators have said that this is really Jo and Alice's story so it makes sense that Alice would be along for the ride between universes.

Each human is a set molecules vibrating in a certain direction in their universe. The exposure to the sound in space cause the molecule in the humans body to vibrate in multiple directions which allows them to see into an experience multiple realities according to string theory. Jo compares herself to the cat, which is Shrodinger's cat which is both alive and dead in a box when exposed to a lethal gas and only is seen as what it is based on the observer. Jo is both dead in one reality and alive in the other. The Cal device is a counter agent that allows a being to be in one universe fully or the other. Lithium is a schizophrenic agent which can alter the perceivers view so that they cannot observe the other reality. Quantum entanglement can be broken one the wave function of the atoms can be broken for a set period of time - which I believe the Cal device does. Thus each individual would be separated back into their own reality.

I believe because she was on FaceTime she was able to observed the different reality when it happened but since she wasn’t physically there she didn’t switch reality like her mom but she can see the different realities. Her brain got infected not her body.

Episode 4 at 23:50 Alice's teacher said she's at "a very liminal age". That can't be a coincidence. Perhaps it's intimating that at this age children have the ability to perceive liminal shifts in reality.

In one of the previous episodes(I can't remember which one) Alice has a stuffed, white toy rabbit. Alluding to Alice and the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. Episode 5, the woman at the observatory again alludes to Alice in Wonderland when she says Alice believed 6 impossible things before breakfast.

Has to be her name in that dimension. And obviously who Henry was referring to when he asks irena if she’s heard from her sister.

Investigations fail every time they are brought up because of the observer effect. This effect is compounded throughout the show. The Alice that succeeds in the future knows that her mom died and she could be replaced just like her mom (Jo A) did. Alice A would need to out maneuver her B-Side to survive. Unfortunately Alice B is very coddled and needs Jo by her side to survive. Through the liminal space, Alice A can sense when Alice B is in the same space. Alice C knows what A and B are doing to each other as shown in ep.5’s funeral scene. The C version of all three characters have yet to show themselves fully but will continue to confuse the audience awaiting further development. Thank you for listening to my TedxTalk

I think Bud an Henry changed places back in 1982. I think this is why Bud is so upset. He said is an earlier episode that all his friends were alive an they were dead. Bud an Henry changed places. This is why Bud refers to his daughter Henrietta is kind of her father.

Yes, I agree, though his space flight was in 1977, I think. (Bud/Henry went to Denmark for the tapes in 1982.) Bud keeps insisting he "fixed everything" that was wrong in the capsule, and yet his friends were dead on arrival.

It might be an "Arrival" sort of thing in which time isn't linear and Alice is affected by the cal now which also affects her past and future.

Did you notice that most of the episode in the car, the casette player had a red face. In the cabin when the tape was playing the discussion between Jo and Alice in Swedish, the face was blue

I don’t think it switched I believe the lighting of the scene made it looked blue because the red is a deep dark red so In low light it can appear a different color like blue. But I could be wrong 🤷🏽‍♂️

It wasn't Alice who stomped on her rabbit, it was an alternate version of her friend who's father died on the ISS, hence why she confronts her about it. Alice has been close to the CAL device both at the landing site of her mother, but also in the car in this episode. I enjoy the show a lot, also it's cool that Denmark is featured and seing two Danish actors, being Danish myself.

It was alternate Alice (the one whose mom died) stomping on the rabbit, it’s not Wendy. Alice sees the other reality occasionally and this was one time. Henry also sees both Alices at that time

Alice THINKS it’s Wendy. But Wendy had no idea what Alice was talking about when Alice confronted her. It was actually the alternate Alice Who stomped on the rabbit

There is at a minimum three realities. There is the original one where Jo and Paul came from where Alice speaks Swedish that ALSO has the CAL device, there is the reality Jo is currently in where here daughter does not speak Swedish that ALSO has the CAL device, and there is the reality where Jo is dead that Paul is in that has Bud and NO CAL device. So both Jo and Paul are in alternate realities then their original but not the same one.

I'm thinking there may be more too. because there is no explanation for the helicopter scene (yet). My guess at this point is that happened when Henry was looking at the CAL and saw it work on Earth that caused the effect of Jo and her daughter being on empty helicopter realities momentarily. But that would mean since they didn't see each other in each reality and there is on one around, they are not ones we've seen before so that would be two more unique realities we were shown. So hypothetically we've seen 5 realities so far.

The whole permise of the quantum entanglement is the observer theor y. So alice facetime call and the camera looking at CAL made her an observer as well.

Irene does not say she just wants to float around the earth. Henry asks if she's dreaming of earth or space. "I am always space. I am dreaming of endlessly circling the earth." And they both know why she dreams that.

Great breakdown. I'm thinking the same thing. There's a reality bending experience that changed them and she's shifting back and forth thru different dimensions. That's why when she was in the office the movers were packing up the stuff and can't see her as she exists in another dimension.

I think Alice is also experiencing the phenomenon because the quantum entanglement happens to anyone that observed it. Her presence wouldn’t then be necessary because she observed it through the ipad

I think Alice is effected by the C.A.L. because she was on the phone with Jo when the C.A.L was acting up- right before the ISS accident. In this episode we are reminded that Jo commented about the C.A.L device to Alice, saying they were fiddling with it or something. Perhaps the phone call between Jo and Alice provided a link between Alice and the device.

Idk how it helps, but I started episode 1 over after watching all of your breakdowns and on the facetime call, Alice is wearing 2 DIFFERENT OUTFITS!! When the call starts and they are speaking swedish, she has pigtails and is wearing a red & blue sweater. After Jo mentions the lettuce, she talks about the CAL and suddenly Alice is wearing a blue sweater with a collar and her hair is pulled back. It switches back and forth throughout the scene and is most obvious when Jo turns the iPad around to show Alice the earth. I think we are seeing this scene from both realities at the same time.

Alice is at a "liminal" age... That's how I was described a few episodes ago. So I guess you can be in a liminal space or be at a liminal age and be able to hear the alternate realities.

I think that the people that were there during experiment including the people on FaceTime are being affected. Because Paul also is being affected he's dead in one universe and alive and the other

Is there a name for this genre or sub-genre? For example, there is the "time travel" genre, whereas Constellation is an example of what I call the "parallel universe" genre. Usually there is some kind of event, often something to do with quantum physics, where someone is transported to a parallel world where there is another version of themselves. For example, the movie "Coherence". One of my favorites is the series "Counterpart" with J K Simmons. What is the first example of this storyline in TV or movies?

I have a theory, I think that "Valya" the dead cosmonaut is Irina TWIN just like Bud and Henry, if I recall, Henry and Irina had a conversation about their siblings and Irina told Henry that her is already dead.

I don't think the lithium pills prevent the entanglement I think they subdue your awareness of it And the more you are aware of it the more it has the potential to effect you. And her daughter is being effected indirectly through contact with her Mom but without Lithium she has become hyper aware. And though I don't think she herself has been shifting she KNOWS her mom has been and she knows the Mom that is there isn't exactly HER mom. The really interesting thing to me if we haven't seen any other versions of Jo which makes me think that she is dead in the entangled universe and that because of that she is shifting back and forth between them at random. The real question is which reality will she eventually end up in permanently?

If there's no ESA conspiracy, why was Jo lied to and given "vitamins" that were really lithium? They automatically assume she's psychotic. Also, on a similar theme, the ESA psychiatrist was either out of the loop or pretty irresponsible to prescribe more lithium to a woman who was already on it.

🫠 I could be wrong, but I think it’s a geographic pronunciation thing. Like, “Irene” in Russia is pronounced “Irena”, but not in the states…maybe? I honestly mainly call her Irene because that’s how she’s listed on IMDB.

The whole boat scene makes zero sense. Why go all the way out there to then not listen to the tapes?? And the daughter is annoying AF. All of that was a waste of fuckin time. She was better off leaving the daughter and doing all of this by herself.
