Probability and statistics on Khan Academy: We dare you to go through a day in which you never consider or use probability. Did you check the weather forecast? Busted! Did you decide to go through the drive through lane vs walk in? Busted again! We are constantly creating hypotheses, making predictions, testing, and analyzing. Our lives are full of probabilities! Statistics is related to probability because much of the data we use when determining probable outcomes comes from our understanding of statistics. In these tutorials, we will cover a range of topics, some which include: independent events, dependent probability, combinatorics, hypothesis testing, descriptive statistics, random variables, probability distributions, regression, and inferential statistics. So buckle up and hop on for a wild ride. We bet you're going to be challenged AND love it!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

Hi, Are you sure that the initial probabilities are equal? It makes sense that the probabilities are equal for one coin toss, but for “consecutive” coin tosses, wouldn’t it be a good idea to take into account that it is less probable to get the some side more than once consecutively?
@wybornebasil
@wybornebasil Жыл бұрын
you’re not less likely. its a 0.5 chance every single time you flip the coin
@syedrhaque765

@@wybornebasil Exactly, and it is because each toss is completely independent from the outcome of other and thats is why its called "fair".

I think we can include the HHH for the P(x=2)? cause it has the 2 heads so the answer is 4/8 or simply 1/2?
@hmz01_
@hmz01_ 6 жыл бұрын
no its EXACTLY 2 heads, no more no less. If for example x=6, it can only be 6 heads, not 5, not 7, but only 6. lol this prob is no use now because your test or exam is long over ahaha- but knowledge is worthwhile nonetheless.

1:10, okay I have a really dumb question but bear with me. Why do we consider the outcome with 1tail and 2 tails as 3 different outcomes for each case? Why does order matter here? How can we identify when does order matter?

It should be CLEAR that all the above results are heavily based on the fact that we are using a fair coin (which is indeed written) Why, since P(Head) = 0.5 and P(Tail) = 0.5, so every experiment result is always 1/8 [which is the result of ((1/2)^3)] which is NOT explained and this MUST be written in the title and be VERY clear. If P(Head) = 0.7 and P(Tail) = 0.3 then all above calculations are INVALID

Alex Kuligowski i believe X is the the outcome or value and x is the possibility associated with it. So for a standard die thats has 6 faces, the possibility of it landing on any number, lets say 5 (X) is 1/6 (x).
