It is so amazing to watch an interview on someone who is so passionate about what they do. I would like some advise as currently i am almost finished with my diploma and i am thinking about studying and getting a degree in civil engineering. So should i just continue studying and get my degree or try and get employment and experience then get the degree? What skill can i try and master now while i am still studying which will make me standout from the rest? Can you also speak on civil engineers in the mining sector.

As I mentioned, It all depends on what you want to do. If your continued education is in a specialized field, i.e. an Honors degree in Structures, and you get employment in roads, your higher qualification will not be utilized. So I suggest working first. Then once you find something you enjoy in the industry, get higher education in that stream. Basic skills that are required from entry level employees include being moderately adept at drafting and design software such as AutoCAD and Revit. Great understanding and use of MS excel, and word. A very important skill is the ability to learn anything new. this is hard to explain but very very important. Civil engineers in mines are mostly doing project management. From what I have experienced.

@@KeMothetsi I do talk a lot about Roads and Transportation. But like I said, it is important to have the general knowledge. And all I mention in roads and transport is general knowledge without me working in the specialized field.
