WHO WE ARE
In 2015 we quit our lives in the city to buy bare land in the country and build a timber frame home from scratch with our bare hands, debt-free, with no prior experience. It’s been a wild ride of ups, downs, highs, lows, rain and rainbows, but we haven’t lost sight of our goals and have gotten further in three years than we thought we’d get in ten. This is like watching grass grow. Bubaboo's gonna be in college before they get the kitchen faucet installed. Why do I even keep watching this? Because it is real and it is informative and it is entertaining. Hang in there kids, you're getting there. If it's worth doing, it worth doing right.

Before you call the roof finished you should add some lightning protection. Have not heard any mention of it yet.And, make sure you have a nice big weather vane.

I know what it's like to finally get to breath that sigh of relief. Especially on projects that are high up off the ground. And if heights aren't your thing you also know the stress and tension. That comes along with working in such conditions. Congratulations to both of you!!!

Thanks for letting us come along for the journey!!! I am starting a cabin build project in Alaska this summer and you guys proved to me that the purchase of a telescopic fork lift is the 1st order of business. I now own a used one. The plan is to use it as long as I need it and then sell it. I will also use it to load the sawmill with logs and move the rough cut beams and lumber with it. Thanks again.

The whole purpose of Tyvek House Wrap is to allow moisture vapour to pass from the inside out, but prevent water droplets from getting in from the outside. Therefore wrapping the OSB is a must, like you said OSB hates moisture and will blow out the wood strands especially around the edges. And any water that WILL make it's way in between layers within the structure and gets trapped will rot your house out.

Everytime I see poor Jesse cutting all the sheet metal with his shear I wish he had the whole set of right cutting, left cutting, and straight cutting. Then he could make the dang cuts without the shear getting in its own way.

I wonder how many caught the time line reference. The roof was completed 1 day before fall, so this video was made September 20ish. So for all those who are giving ideas and tips you are almost 2 months late in your suggestions. Looks great, if there are no leaks then it is a beauty job.

Congrats on a tough job well done! I remember watching you start that roof and I thought that there was no way you two would get that done, that you'd have to call someone in to do it but I was wrong and you guys did a very difficult job spendidly! It's truly beautiful and I am SO proud of you! I wish I were nearby so I could come help you do something, but north Texas is a long drive to your place. Maybe if I win the lottery. LOL....I guess I need to start playing it, huh? Enjoy your long deserved break, eat pizza until you burp crust and we'll be here with baited breath waiting to see the next step tackled with your humor and energy! Congratulations on creating a roof that your grandkids can admire. Before putting my standing seam on, I looked at hurricane damage, tornado damage, 60 year old roofs in the deep south and decided that it is the roof of choice. I will take it over any other roof except maybe the new Tesla roofs with solar. You did a great job on end caps and it looks good. You will sleep soundly when there are big storms. No worry about leaks or damage from hail. Here in Austin, mine was subjected to 3 inch hail and after a few years it looks like there was never any hail hit it. When the squirrels, cats, and other critters are on it, I don't care as they can't do any damage. KUDOS!!

And so the great roof adventure comes to an end. I have been riveted (joke intended) the last month watching this happen, and am so impressed. I had no idea what was involved, but as I drive around here in Georgia and see all the old rusted metal roofs, I appreciate them more than I did. Congrats on this epic achievement, and may you have 50 years of leak-free living ahead of you.

Great job guys!! The roof was obviously a LOT of work, but you are now officially dried in-a major and significant step on the journey. I'm in Florida, but after more than a year of watching your videos it's been a wonderful saga, and though it will probably never happen, I'd love to visit to see the culmination of the project in person. Very well done for your persistence throughout the project. The metal roof looks beautiful. You two are amazing, and despite exhaustion you keep on going. You're both heros.

With the ridge end, you should seal behind the bend, and bring it down to a mitre. So there is a level line coming down. It was a good effort because you don't do it for living, but there is a way better and neater way of doing it. Those tin snips are straight cutters and you'd need left and rights to make your life easier. I ain't out to lecture you I just know you like to learn so some advice from someone who does it for a living. Good job and congrats

Unless you worked under these conditions no one really knows what your bodies have to endured working under these conditions, take a BREAK let your bodies rebuild and it will make you stronger. Hello Jesse, all the roofers in the world are going to think of you cheerfully since you have made these videos that document the danger and difficulty of doing the job because people will be glad to pay for their expertise. That being the case, you have a very lovely standing seam roof on that chalet of yours and over the years you will never take it for granted. I think your custom endcaps work pretty good, but if you were to feel the need, you could put a little family crest up there since this place is your personal work. And of course it is always good to see Allysa and her gardening and the Bugaboo

Congratulations on finishing what was hopefully the most dangerous pain in the æ part of your build. You'll laugh about the foam at some point, it kicked your butt. For narrow gaps, calk works better than foam.

so I've been watching you with your build. Have to commend you and your doing great. Now from a mechanical standpoint, I don't see any plumbing vents or ?wood stove/ chimney flashings. Would have been so much easier during the roof process as opposed to after the fact. Just my experience

The roof is hard because it's your houses hat ,in looks ,and function it has to be right ! good job you'll forget the hassle, but you will love being DRY and now you can work inside warm and dry and for me the most creative time and a real joy to do ,see, and show off it only gets better .

It looks amazing! I too, cant believe they don't sell a pre-manufactured end cap, or had a fabricator make 2. It's okay Jessie, from here in the Adirondacks NY it looks great. So have a drink, take a drive- then it's back outside to slap up some clapboard and get it sided before the moon of the fallen leaves.

guys before you think your done, your not, you have too wrap the house in house wrap then siding. but the house wrap is a must.. glad that you got the roof done. thanks for posting...

Love it! The project ends with a funeral dirge instead of a triumphal march. You did good guys. Nothing you tackle for the rest of your life will seem out of your reach. You know you can do it.

Two thumbs up! I will never build a house so the technicalities were wasted on me. What was NOT wasted was the marvelous example you two have been to me and a whole community of people who believe in working hard to get the things we want, taking control of our lives, and yes, sometimes just grinding it out. So when we ask ourselves WHY? We know that even tho some of the middle parts were the pits, if we persevere were gonna come out on the other side having accomplished our goal, gaining skill, pride and faith in our abilities as we go. Way to go! (And I bet there is a whole group of folks you inspire to reach higher than they ever thought possible.....)

What a nice job well done. I am fascinated by watching you two working out solutions to seemingly impossible problems. I think you should write a book about this building experience when you are finished.
