Construction worker rescued after hours trapped under sand in Ballito

Rescuers have successfully freed a construction worker who was trapped under sand for hours at a site in Ballito on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. The man's condition is critical as he's rushed to the hospital, following the collapse of an embankment on Saturday morning that claimed the lives of four of his co-workers. This is the won't happen to me memtallity. You can't dig a 6m 65 degree embankment in a sand dune. It happened in Princes Grant estate in about 2005. Then regulations were changed for sand dune construction where we had to use sheet piling in these circumstances. It is very expensive so contractors still take short cuts.
