I agree. Sometimes you finish college and realize you want something completely different. I got a marketing degree at a good business school. Got my first markeitng job in tech at $52k (but over their max budget). Realizing I like product and building much more (and dislike selling/markeitng). Grinded hard to get a product marketing job 10 months into my first job and got raised to $68k. 1 year later I’m now a product marketing manager at $78k. (Avg for PMM is around $120k), now I’m trying to career shift into engineering, as I really like technical things way more (maybe product management if there is opportunity)

I just researched and to live comfortably you need to make $85k after taxes in SF. She is doing okay and is not that far off. I’m from NYC and ppl who aren’t from NYC Think 100k gets us nowhere and truthfully, many live well in that range because affordable rent is a thing depending on where you choose to live. There is prime real estate but that’s not the entire city.

So your bosses could treat you unfairly and compensate others way more than you for doing the same job. There’s actually a salary transparency law in NY now where employers HAVE to tell you a starting base compensation wage. You can negotiate, but they aren’t allowed to just give you a number anymore.

Do you even know what consulting is? Or the limitations of chatgpt? An English degree teaches you to analyze sources critically, craft persuasive arguments, and communicate your point clearly. That’s exactly what consultants do. When your CEO is deciding whether to spend $1 million on a business decision, they’re gonna consult a human with specific expertise in their industry who can gather new data and not rely on chatgpt to give very generic guesses about what to do.

You have to be in a prestigious university with good connections and then you can major in anything. If it's a regular university/college, you should major in majors with a good ROI.

Not that difficult. Consulting is starving for all majors because it’s usually a tech implementation position. New grads are usually quick to pick up on learning a new ERP system. I’m a Business Analyst that started in consulting with an Accounting major. I had co-workers that majored in biology, engineering, political science, and liberal arts. If you don’t have a technical education, the next best thing is to graduate from a target school with good grades. Ivy League, state school, public universities, etc. Unfortunately private online only universities can hinder you if you aren’t careful with the selection process.

I'm a IBE double major at OSU and currently interning at P&G in Cincinnati. For my ISE degree I'm mainly taking CS classes and I kinda regret not just coming in as a CS major. ISE is amazing, but only reason why I did it at Ohio State was because IBE puts me in the honors college and I got to be a business major. I'm sure you can get away with either major, but more schools have a CS program compared to Industrial. No major will hold you back. Do what interests you the most!!!
