The thing I forgot to mention in the video Consumer Cellular does warm you when you about to go over the limit (unlimited) by email and that email gives you the option to buy an additional 10 Gigs for $10. If I had known I would have jumped on it ... We save so much money $ 10 is no big deal. UPDATE COMING SOON !!

We've been with them for almost 10 years...back when they were awesome. I knew nothing about the buyout until a couple of months ago when they cut my service off without asking me whether or not the data usage was valid which really pissed me off. Trying to get a hold of customer service in a "timely" manner is non existent with wait times in excess of a half hour or longer, and the call back request service is hit or miss. We will probably go with another carrier soon if they don't clean up their act soon...

Thanks for the update. We use the minimum data so I haven't noticed any change, or anything unexpected with our bill. Often like car insurance, self storage companies, it's not so much about which company to chose but being willing to change companies every few years...

I looked up about sale/merger "In October 2020, upon the decision of Marick and Pryor to retire, Consumer Cellular history was sold to the Chicago-based venture capital firm GTCR for a reported $2.3 billion. Ed Evans was installed as CEO, replacing Marick." ... Our period of very heavy usage was from March of 2020 to June of 2021. There was a little difficulty with going over 35G of data. I was able to get a hold of customer service, they flagged my account for no data management, with my acknowledgement I would pay for each threshold cross $10 for each 10G. This actually saved us a lot of money using our phones as hotspots compared having internet access at both our work and home residences. We ended that in June what the current status of what can be done if you use more than 35G per month ??? Our bill for 2 phones talk, text, minimum data $52 a month ... Sticking CC for now

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, after being with many different carriers in the past this is definitely the best cell phone provider experience I've had. Many providers going back to the days of the bag phones this has also been the cheapest. They came thru for us bigtime during the height of the pandemic. I know they advertise $20 for talk, text, and data (first threshold). That's the plan we are on now which cost us $52 a month for 2 phones with taxes and fees. This is a real review not a plug (or paid endorsement) for consumer cellular. So negative experiences are welcome. Can you tell us what happened?

I don't believe this to be a true statement, they are very transparent and let you know if the bill is going to be higher right away (for example if you use more data than you signed up for). We have been very happy with consumer cellular for many years, and they are very nice to talk to on the phone also if you have any questions or problems. They take their time and explain everything clearly. I'm not sure how you think they take advantage of older people? Example?

I’ve been using straight talk but it sucks mainly I watch KZfaq videos cause I’m disabled and mainly sit around the house but I’m tired of watching the wheel of death go around and around for hours . I’m gonna change but don’t want contract . Before I sign a contract on anything I’ll do without. Maybe I’ll give this company a call

We have had a few people express some dissatisfaction, but we had excellent luck with them. If are going to use phone (data) to watch KZfaq videos that could get expensive. All these plans that promise unlimited data will slow you down when you are reaching a certain point. We called and set it up for no slow downs, that worked well but our data costs were around $55 a month. Which was still a good deal, essentially internet in two different locations. Cheaper than wired internet for both places. We now live in just one location and have comcast for internet. The price of that was scheduled to jump from 50 to 150 in a couple of months. I called up an asked to cancel, they lowered the price to $45 and guaranteed it for another 2 years. We never sign a contract with Consumer, had their service at least 5 years now. T-Mobile has unlimited wireless internet for $50 a month, if you can get a good signal. We had a similar system before (Clear Wireless, bought out by Sprint). It worked great until Sprint came in and eventually shut it down...

@Inseparable724365
@Inseparable724365 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much !!! there are no unlimited data plans, if you go over a certain point they slow you down to dial up speeds. If you don't care about costs and we didn't care that much about another 10 or 20 dollars on our phone bill. Once it happened the first time I was able to speak to them and request no slow downs and will pay the extra to insure it didn't happen. Once my account was flagged for no slow downs it never happened again. Some month we stayed under the 35g limit and that's all we were charged for then every 10g another $10. Our largest phone bill was $105 for 2 phones with 55g data. We used our phones for hotspots which was cheaper than maintaining internet in the two locations we lived at during the week. Now we are retired and live at our house 7 days a week. Got cable internet installed $50 a month and our phone bill will be $55.

Today, Nov 22, The service advertises Unlimited data for $55/ month, and the fine print says throttling may occur after 50 GB use during the month.
@Inseparable724365
@Inseparable724365 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the ad you are talking about. When we were using data a lot I hit that point at 35G, and then it was like using dial-up. I contacted them and told them that cannot happen again and they flagged our account for no slow downs. Every time I we crossed a threshold we were charged $10 for another 10G which is what I wanted. We never crossed over 50Gs. It was economical for us because we were living in 2 locations during the week, so instead of maintaining 2 separate internet providers we used our phones as hot spots. Now that we live in one location we have comcast for Wi-fi, and are on the minimum data plan with Consumer Cellular. If they've updated their higher usage plans I'm not aware. We worked in the self storage industry and there was a lot buried in the fine print, I hated that part of the job. We have 2 phones each is $20 but our bill is $51, the rest is fees and taxes, but no complaints.

Nothing and No ... we do product and service reviews on things that we've owned and/or used for years. We feel track record is important. They tend to be positive or else we wouldn't be still using the product or service. We panned a frying pan and changed a review on a milk frother form a buy to a do not buy! I hate solicited reviews...

@Inseparable724365
@Inseparable724365 2 жыл бұрын
There is away to get them to not throttle your data, but you got to agree to pay an extra $10 every 10 gig threshold you cross. Once I found this out and had them flag my account accordingly, no slow downs. I think the most we paid was $105 for the 2 phones text, talk, data (both phones used as hotspots for our laptops). We are no longer living at 2 different sites during week, but when we were working we would have paid more than that for just internet for both locations. Now we are retired and just living at our home in the country had comcast turned back on and our Consumer Cellular bill is $52 a month with minimum data.

Verizon was a contract, Consumer Cellular is not. We took a live on position in PA early on in the pandemic, and couldn't get internet connected. So we turned to using our phones as hot spots, and it worked well. We shut down internet at our house in WV and just used the phones in both locations, which was a lot cheaper than paying for internet at two locations. In May we were put back on the shelf as our employer sold out. So we restarted internet at our house, but for 18 months our phones saved the day. The only thing is you have to tell CC you don't want slow downs, essentially unlimited data plus.

Does iPhone work good on this network? I’m currently running iPhone 6s Plus and my apps aren’t working since it’s an older model, I have to upgrade and it looks like the cheapest is doing consumer cellular and paying the phone off with the bill which brings my bill to $60. $20 a month plus the $40 plan 🙏🏽😐otherwise I’ll have to pay $699-$1000 out the door. just want to know your opinion on it. Thanks I was going to upgrade to the 11 or 12

Maybe someone else can comment here? We have a couple of Motorola androids ($95-$125 to purchase) that we bought at Target that are already set up to work with Consumer Cellular. The $20 a month plan does not include tax and fees, we pay $52 a month for 2 phones (minimum data plan) .. no complaints, sorry this is is all I can contribute. We live on $1500 a month so Iphones are not in our budget

@@Inseparable724365 Thanks for the reply. I’ve had android in the past and they worked great. I saw my husbands iPhone and saw the features. And I wanted one. Ive had an iPhone for bout 6 years now. I know iPhones are expensive I bought this one $149 refurbished but the network expanded and the older models don’t work as well. Like iPhone 5,6,and some 7’s. The apps crash or just won’t download. I’m on a budget too looking for a deal...prices for everything are crazy, and came across it at Walmart bout a year ago. I was just weighing my options. Kinda shopping around. But it’s been helpful thank you so much for your channel I just happened to come across it!!👍🏽

@@youngloud-topic4729 I've been happy with it, we been using our phones as hotspots. We couldn't get Internet when we moved, right at the beginning of covid. Someone suggested we use our phones for wireless internet. We spend our week at our apartment in the city and our weekends at our home in the country. So it eliminates the need for an internet provider at both locations ... saves us a lot of money ...the phone is our phone and our internet provider..

I'm looking to see if I can buy a kyocera flip phone at amazon and use it with Consumer Cellular! I'm very happy with them and I have my old ATT pH from 2015 but they don't support 3G neither does ATT! So I guess I have to hope I don't have to search for a signal and get a 4G but there flip phone's are modified so you can't use data! The real name of the phone is my Flip qualcomm makes it and it's supposed to be a Kios phone when you turn it on but it doesn't do anything that pH is supposed to do! They said they didn't modify it but I no better! Glad you stayed

Not sure why your bill is so high, but I am in self storage and in order to get a good price you have to move every couple of years. Some places will let you move across the hall, and some you have to move across the street to the competitor. They gamble that you won't do it. I switch my insurance carrier every 2 to 3 years for the same reason. This year I saved $1400 this year by switching, it doesn't matter which insurance company. Same is true with cable .. price creep
