Very good video, I have been a chassis mechanic just south of Atlanta GA for 2 years now and everything you’ve said is accurate, a couple more tips (especially on Norfolk Southern 53Ft Chassis) is to mark the wheels with a tire marker and roll the chassis forward to inspect for a low spot in the tread, if there is an area with 5/32s difference at the low spot drivers will sometimes be charged for damages if not caught before leaving the yard, depending on where the chassis is returned. One last tip if the brakes are locked down, apply air to the TRAILER ONLY and chock the wheels of the truck and take a hammer to the metal part of the brake shoes ( do not apply air to your trucks parking brake or it could run you over) if the problem is just brakes rusted to the drum they should free right up. Just a couple of tricks for stubborn chassis that have been sitting for a couple of weeks. It would also be a good idea to get an “unbreakable” mini sledge hammer to hit pushpins and twist locks that aren’t sitting correctly which could save you time from needing a container adjustment. I would also suggest every driver getting a set of standard sockets and wrenches and a ratchet to fix minor problems road side, most bolt sizes are 7/16, 1/2, and 9/16” for latches, 7 ways and crank handles which is what I see drivers having problems with the most

I’m not a trucker, I just like to learn how our society functions. So much to learn from so many different people. To think any human would believe they are the most important in society is beyond me

I always check the annual inspection sticker before I hook up. If it's expired nothing else matters.

ignore it and do the inspection yourself on the expired ones. Saves a lot of money.

You would save crane fees and even hang fresh water and waste water tanks below. Just find a trucker without a haul who needs a job. Where I'm thinking about going is the farm country where I grew up and worked in farms. Plenty of guys haul fertilizer and wheat or rice. Downtime is common. I could park on the landing pads and get work. After 14 yrs as an equipment operator and mechanic, I could easily supplement my retirement and live rent free.

I miss the other kind of semis "cabovers". I very seldom see any on the roads in the USA nowadays. Back in the '80s & down, there was a mix of them & conventional cabs. Of course things have changed such as the law increased the length limit which eliminated the need for cabovers to pull trailers that exceeded a certain length & later on, cabovers phased out & more conventional cabs took their places.

How much do you think it would cost to buy a used but relatively good condition forty foot chassis? I'm planning on building out a forty foot container and want to secure it to a chassis to classify it as an RV and make it easier and less expensive to move. Do you think I would be able to talk with a local dock and buy one or both from them directly?

that last one is an empty handler and it has twist pins that lock so it can pick it up then when he lets go and it is on the chassis it he unlocks and goes

robert soltysik right, it's not magnetic. You are correct, it just moves empties. You must have or do containers. The tire quality is very substandard.

We can pick up any type of containers to the same trailer (exept 53ft). It's good because we change trailers very rarely, but sometimes it's bad because much feature means much problems... Thanks King, great video. Once you pull this chassis, do you just keep using the same one to drop empty and pick a full from same terminal? Nowadays you have to pay for chassis per day, so if you can use the same chassis for 2-3 live loads per day, that could be add'l revenue stream utilizing same chassis. I heard some terminals require you to swap chassis, makes no sense to me.
