Saving seed potatoes is very tricky. We have learned that in our environment we replant our potatoes 4 to 6 week's after digging them. Size isn't a big issue with us because we cut them up anyway. Our goal is to see how long can we do this before we have to replace them. So far it's working out really good. We are experimenting in the greenhouse now.

Hi, I'm a big fan of your show here in Kansas! I just ordered seeds from you for the first time, but I'm curious: What is your favorite variety of each type of vegetable? Maybe you could cover that on a show sometime. Thanks, Peter

Hard to pick just one. That "favorite" can often depend on how we intend to use the vegetable. But I do like that idea as a show topic.

I’m using your fertilizers, micro boost and fertilizing schedule as suggested in your video. First time fall crops for me in new raised beds in 9b central cali San Joaquin Valley. Love to see how yours are going as well with any issues or pest pressure, and harvesting and essential pruning. Thank you so much!!!!! Planting tips are great 👍🏻 Plant progress and harvesting is the best part and where tips are most needed. Thank you!!! BTW, love my new shirts!! And just ordered some new 2021 seeds👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Great show guys! Interesting new kits! I have always been interested in Thomas Jefferson's gardening exploits, and Scarlet Runner Beans were a favorite of his. He talked about the magnificent bright red blooms and how beautiful they were (calling them "showy"), but rarely mentioned much about taste etc. I was curious and ordered some a few years ago, from Monticello. Those were the toughest doggone beans I've ever seen, but they were absolutely beautiful when blooming! I'd say those I grew would strictly be a dry bean variety. Should you ever be interested in a great book on the vegetable gardens of Monticello, I'd highly recommend this one, "A Rich Spot of Earth" by Peter Hatch, who cared for the gardens for a number of years. Thankfully, Jefferson kept very precise records and most survive to this day. How he swapped seeds with Washington, Adams, and others, sourced seeds from Europe, instructed Lewis and Clark on what to be on the lookout for in their travels and bring back to him, etc. This book is strictly about the vegetable gardens and orchards at Monticello, from construction, to how they sit today. Quite fascinating! www.amazon.com/Rich-Spot-Earth-Jeffersons-Revolutionary/dp/0300208626

Do you have any videos on over fertilizing tomatoes , I believe that this is possibly causing my Hoss container tomatoes to suddenly have the leaves turn a cream color on the leaves , they were grown indoors all winter and every plant (12) just started this and I have had problems with blossom end rot in the past , so I have been adding in the cal/mag liquid along with the pelleted gypsum and the tomato tablets with water , everything was growing great and looking fine and then the leaves just turned cream color , the plants don't look like they are dying just in stress !

I have not read thru all of the comments so if my question has been asked, I apologize. In this video's watering system, can it be used in raised beds spaced 3 feet open space between them? Only container gardening was mentioned not raised bed, which are different, or did I miss your mentioning them?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. You just might want to bury the mainline tubing between the beds so that you don't have to step over it.

@@gardeningwithhoss Do you recommend using the drip system you use in your in the ground garden or the container kit, I only have 4 raised beds. Some beds may need more watering than others or different fertilizers. Do you have a shut-off valve with maybe a handle, that can be attached to the mainline/drip tape in each bed to handle that? Your drip irrigation system is new to me, I've always used soaker hoses, so sorry about all the questions.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 3 жыл бұрын
I think the drip system (with tape) would probably be more appropriate. We have "Row Start Valves" where you can control the water on each line of tape. We also have "mainline valves" where you can turn off a section of drip lines at a time.

Question: My first year garden had hardly no weeds this summer but now I've got wild garlic coming in about like grass. All in the onion and shallot rows really gets me. Too many to dig out. Will hoeing over and over eventually wear them out? Hope the solution doesn't have me missing a season. And that was the best talk on overalls I ever heard.

Usually, most "weeds" can be eliminated by aggravating them to death. Tarping is also effective.

What is the best mulch for perennials and trees? I find all organic based mulches are a pain, sooner or later. birds throw it around and it can go hydrophobic, harder to weed, etc. Maybe I should get some amount of small grit, like 2mm, to protect soil from sun and wind? What about liquid (concentrate) gypsum for the gentleman's heavy clay problem?

@blurrylights6344

I have a similar situation but here's what I'm thinking. Don't run the garden hose across the driveway, run the mainline tubing across it ( it's only 5/8ths) then put a heavy duty cord cover over it. It would form a mini speed bump but some of them are advertised to bear several thousand pounds. It would be an additional expense so I'm trying to calculate if the convenience is worth it or not. Haven't decided yet.

This year I had a terrible time with grass in the garden. We had a very wet Spring so that delayed some of my planting. I'm thinking about covering my soil with black garden material. What do you think about separating the material enough to plant between the the material??
@gardeningwithhoss

I'm not sure that is necessary. I think a tarp and till and repeat technique is much more effective and easier. Once you get that weed seed bank depleted, it's pretty easy from there.

I'm seriously considering drip irrigation for my orchard. It is currently 2 rows of semi-dwarf apple, pear, peach, apricot, & plum. The rows are 20 feet apart & 90 feet long. Do you think I can use one system and just add more tubing? Or would having a system for each row be better? Thanks!

Just depends on whether you want to move a water hose to feed each system individually, or water it all at one time.
