Some deflating news related to the Contax TVS.
Update: I'm wrong about the removal of the rewind plate. You NEED to remove all the adhesive from the Main FPC to remove the rewind plate and FPC.
Here's the guide I scanned. Included is also a photo of how the cable sits in the camera, what the entire lens unit looks like, and what the cable on its own looks like. Good luck.

Fuck man, that sucks. Nabbed a tvsii for a steal at £60 and it's started to make a fast clicking sound on the first few frames. Looks like the lens internals are exactly the same as your tvs. Had a poke round the lens and knew it was far beyond my amateur ass. Don't suppose the guys at the NY camera repair place are willing to share their secret process for getting the front ring off 😉? Thank you for discouraging me from completely fucking the poor thing in a misguided attempt at full disassembly! On an unrelated note, you're uncommonly well spoken for this kind of content; very much appreciated.

This is why people purchase Leica M cameras. I also own one of these electronic marvels. Worked great for about 5 years. I have even thought of purchasing a Contax G....but the reality is that no one really knows how to work on them. Maybe a former employee of Kyocera has the knowledge? Good luck.....

DO you have any suggestions for preventing damage to the flex cable in the first place? That would be a great video! I just got mine, Ima leaving it on the 28mm setting and to turn it off im not moving the lever all the way to the off position, just barely moving it off of 28.

Put some lacquer thiner on the thread, you’ll see a hole like a half moon, and then use a spanner to unscrew it

Walter HF The thread of the lens barrel!?! Thank you! I might try that. A fellow in Russia was able to disassemble the focusing mechanism from the front of the lens and thread the new cable through. Seems easy enough. Waiting on my Third TVS to break, ahah

Great video man. Despite these issues, would you recommend the camera? I am weighing my options and am unsure if I want to take the risk with this camera breaking. However, the T2 is much more expensive and is still prone to breaking... hard to make a decision.

Thanks for this video. I just ordered on and ill be sure to inspect it after arrival. Is it easy to replace the film counter lcd on these? The one i ordered is mint other than that lcd doesnt work.

Hey man great work on this. I found a seller on eBay that has a broken TVS with that part broken off and removed I saved the photo if you would like to examine it. I also sent it to PPP maybe you guys can look it.

so has anyone been able to fix this issue yet? just got a TVS from a friend and it seems to be a flex cable issue, also I dont know if this is a problem but the front part of the lens of my one can just be removed from the camera by pulling it?

@@rorcarrot1 it's in the making but it's gonna be a while before i can release the video. I can send you a couple of pictures if you want. Basically I just bended the cable to push it through , there is a small opening where it can fit.
