This looks like a great project for newer woodworkers to build skills without being too difficult. The end product looks great also. Nice design.

Opportunity to justify buying a new tool (or two). I honestly used this to justify my drill press! Have a drill press… say you have to have a band saw. Do you need a band saw for THIS project? Of course not. Does she know that? (Same answer) … I’m here because I’m building another; but customized. 4 levels, with the bottom level taller for boots. Dry fit: the dowels were too tight… so lube. (Still have some Johnson’s Paste Wax).

Love this…made it years ago (and in part to justify buying that drill press I wanted). Now making one as a gift, different dimensions and FOUR levels. Lots of dowels and pieces to keep strait. Early dry fit finds lots of friction…I’m using paste wax (Johnson’s 😢) for needed lubrication on the dowels.

I built this and had one suggestion. Inserting the dowels was difficult at best. I found the process a lot easier when I put a very small amount of floor wax on the dowels. This made it much easier to do.

Steve this is the first time that I comment on one of your videos even though i've been a subscriber for quite a lil while. It was the want to build a Hi-fi rack for my vintage audiophile equipment that brought me to your "end grain cutting board video" ever since I've been pretty hooked to woodworking and saved myself a lot of money building custom things that would have cost me way more. I am a fine artist and thanks to woodworking and people like you I am transforming my garage into an art studio. All is custom to my needs. Thank you and thank the woodworking community for sharing your knowledge and inspiring other people with their own ideas and designs. Have a Blessed Day!

Hey Steve. I have a rig that I use for Adirondack chairs at the drill press. Rather then coming from the side. I bring my pieces from the front. I set the bit on my mark and move my drill press fence into position. At each side of the piece I add two pieces of scrap that help me to line the pieces up. In a project like this. It's a lot of help. Works well for making chair seat slats. It hard to describe. But I can send a video if you want to see it.

I have been so busy this weekend I didn't have a chance to watch this until now. I love it though! I would not make it for a shoe rack myself but looks great for organization in my crafting room. I use a lot of plastic shoe boxes - and a few cardboard ones too - that I could easily store on there. :) - Heidi

Just finished this as a present for my daughter for her new house. If you use the plans make sure you drill three holes in the down pieces (the plans only show two) Also sand down the dowels otherwise your going to need a big hammer to push them through all the holes. Great little project!!
@gared287
@gared287 Жыл бұрын
I just built this and agree with you. Instead of sanding the dowels, I put a small amount of floor wax on each dowel using a cloth. That made it much easier to insert the dowels and eliminated the need to sand them.

First off, I would like to say thank you very much for the opportunity to download a couple of free plans to help us get started with our woodworking adventures. I will definitely be back to purchase other plans and will try and pay a bit more than the suggested price once things settle down a bit. Buying a home tightens the wallet a lot. I would ask one tiny little addition to your plans that I either am missing or aren't there are what size boards you are using for the project. If you could say just put " 2x - 2"x4"x8" at the top of the cut list, for example, it would be very helpful for us newbies. Not that you're busy or anything and need any additional work, I'm sure. Just a suggestion, but I really look forward to seeing your new videos and plan on going through your whole course of woodworking classes. Really enjoy your videos and frequently laugh out loud while watching them. Please keep it up. You are a very good teacher and entirely enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
