Now that I started searching for interesting knitting techniques, I keep finding and learning new ones almost every week. Sometimes I feel like a kid in a candy store, testing a few techniques at a time. I have the best job in the world, that's for sure :-)

My grandmother taught me to knit 50+ years ago. I now know she taught me the Continental style....not surprising because I am an Ashkenazic Jew. Thank you for helping me identify this cultural connection.

I started out a crocheter, so for me knitting continental is just a natural way to do it. I have tried to do it English style, but it's just not as comfortable or efficient for me. Thank you so much for showing other people how to knit in this style. Oh, I also found that when knitting brioche, continental is so much better.

Everyone I know just "weave" the yarn over the (left) index finger, under the long finger, over the ring finger and under the pinkie. That way you get excellent tension control without having to strain your hand to hold on to the yarn. For really slippery yarn you can add the extra turn around the pinkie, but that's only needed in extreme cases.

Isn't it incredible that there are so many different options in knitting? Knitters in different areas came up with their own special ways, and now that we have internet, we can share those little tips and tricks with each other. The way I explained in this tutorial is a way I was taught many years ago. And funny enough, that's the way every knitter uses where I come from. Live and learn :-)

I too wrap it around my little finger to knit continual I find it easiest for me.

It's great to know, Cynthia :-) I know there are other ways to adjust yarn tension, but I wrap yarn around my little finger because that's how I was taught quite a few years ago. It feels good to know there are other "little-finger-wrappers" out there :-)

I knit continental as well. Self taught at 7. It’s only been six months since I started again to knit; but within that time, I’ve caught on fast I just don’t knit really fast😆

It's not a race, Carla :-) As long as you enjoy your knitting, speed doesn't really matter. Making only 10 rows a day is enough to finish lots of projects. Happy knitting!

I started a hat using circular needles. I can't find the video. It's straight knitting, I am getting close to ending the hat. I don't remember the steps to end the hat. This women in this video pulled the hat inside and closed it so it like a double hat. I am not sure? Does anyone on here know what I am talking about? The women has an accent, I think with dark hair, her videos are very good and easy to follow. Anyone with any ideas to find the video. Thanks.
