Continental TKC 80 2,000 Mile Review | How Does It Perform? | Worst ADV Tire You Can Buy?

The Bearded Grump

Жыл бұрын

It's time to do the 2,000 mile review on the Continental Tkc 80 rear tire. I just wanted to give you my pros and cons on the tire and how it performed on pavement and off road in sand, hard rock, mud and gravel on my Suzuki V-strom 1000. I also compare it to the Shinko 805 and the Motoz Tractionator Adventure. In my opinion this isn't a terrible adv motorcycle tire but it wears out fast and for what it cost I don't think it's a real good value. With that being said it performed better than I thought it would and I'm sure it's a good tire for some people that don't ride their adventure motorcycle very many miles per year. As always thanks for watching and please consider subscribing!

Thanks Greg, I am overwhelmed that you chose to wear a VW "Verbal Widget" shirt on your excellent review, 🤣I think after I wear out the Dunlop TMM's I'll be switching to a more off-road tire like the MOTOz Adventure on the T700 Tenere. That torque monster you're on eats them up! I run a shinko 805 rear, tkc80 front on my versys and have around 5000 miles on them and still have tread and that's riding two up a lot. That motoz looks awesome though. Great review..

The Beast will wear tires a little faster due to my heavy right hand 😁 but the Motoz will last a lot longer and get better traction off road. I would highly recommend that you try one at some point. You won't be disappointed. Thanks and thanks for watching. 👊

I ran several sets of TKC80s on my F800GS. The front is decent, although prone to "cupping." The rear has mediocre traction, is pretty much worthless in mud and on hard pack with a loose surface (ie: many forest roads), it LOVES to step out without warning, and violently to one side. Did it to me on pavement once at 60mph and I walked away with a broken wrist. I don't use TKCs any more. I moved to the less aggressive Heidenaus because TKCs weren't cheap and wore out really fast. The Heidies did reasonably well and lasted at least twice as long. I did not see the issues some people did with that tire. I put on my first set of MotoZ GPS tires (their least aggressive ADV and somewhat comparable to the Heidenau) and I hate them. The front does not seal on the rim (I've seen reports from others with this issue) and the tread design on the front causes you to get a bit of a wobble or uneasiness when leaned over at lower speeds. Like you know... in dirt? Or in town? Or on a freeway on ramp that's tight? or... Given I've put a good 5k on them if not 6, they're gonna LAST, that's for sure. The carcass is stiff, which is good and bad. Good cuz you probably need a .50 cal to puncture this tire 😉. Bad because you have no feel and the ride is harsher. Since it's so still, airing down had little benefit. That said, it sounds like the RallZ (their most aggressive ADV tire) is a better option, but probably also stiff. It does seem to get lots of praise. I'm not sure what I'll try next. I want something with ridability that inspires confidence, has feel and doesn't wear out in 4k miles.
@TheBeardedGrump
@TheBeardedGrump Жыл бұрын
Yes the tkc steps out fairly easy but still better than Shinko 805. I don't have any experience with the GPS because it's not quite aggressive enough of a tire for me. I love the tractionator adventure and I want to try a Rallz at some point but it might be a little too aggressive for the type of riding I do. I think the tractionator adventure rear and dual venture front is a great combo for traction and wear. I can get 6-8k out of a Tractionator rear even with a heavy right hand 😁.
@Ride_0n
@Ride_0n Жыл бұрын
@@TheBeardedGrump I'd have gone more aggressive, but it's a long way to dirt for me, so I need a tire that can get the job done with lots of pavement and then not totally let me down when I can finally get a little dirty. It's a tall order and probably not realistic. Clearly the solution is to buy a few houses, spread throughout the country and stash a couple of bikes at each one that's perfect for riding in that general area. Yeah. THAT'S a realistic plan. Lemme check my pockets for spare change, maybe I can pull that off? 😂

What would be your choice for best value vs performance tire? Just caught your Shinko 805 review which saved me from it as well as this one. I was hoping to get a cheaper tire because I cant find any deals on the Motox Adv. Where you getting your Motoz? Cyclegear has a deal where you get 50% off mounting and balance if you buy a tire there but they dont carry motoz so I was hoping to find an alternative. Don't seem like there are any rear options out there worth the money other then the Motoz ADV. I did go with your reccomendation fo the front with the Shinko 804. Just need a rear. I f you think its worth just getting the Motoz I will bite the bullet, but hoping for a comprable rear to fit the budget that will last and still perform. What is your second favorite rear? Thank you again. I am glad to find this channel.

@@TheBeardedGrump I just ended up ordering from Chapmoto last minute because they did 3 free days shipping. Wish I would have seen this before I ordered but wanted tires before the weekend. You sold me on the Motoz ADV I figure for the mileage I am gonna get on them and the performance it's like getting 2 other rears worth so it seems the best option. I went over fronts till I couldn't read any more reviews, and the Shinko 804 seems like it's best suited for my needs. I did catch your review on it as well which also settled me on the tire. The deciding factor for that tire over the Motoz dual venture was the speed rating was lower then the Shinko 804, and from what I gathered it handled better on the twisties at hight speeds and higher highway speeds less vibration. You may be able to confirm that? I know you run the dual venture now but realistically. I will be riding more street (mainly highway) so the Shinko 804 seemed the best 50/50. Not sure of you are sponsored but you definitely have the best and most honest reviews I've seen on tires and I've probably seen them all at this point on the big name adventure tire. Hopefully you are getting the recognition you deserve and at least some free gear. Appreciate you brother. Ride safe. 😎🤘
