Like SF4, MvC3, TTT2, MK9, KoF 13, etc. The few exceptions are mostly recent standalone titles like DBFZ. In all the cases of long running franchises, the most recent titles didn't deliver well and close to the expectations of a "new gen" (PS4) sequel. Like, to stay on topic of minor details, one example is SF5's poor and lazy job in game over screen compared to SF4.

It's unfortunate that this game didn't get nearly enough apprieciation when it first came out. I bought it immediately because until this came out, the 1st Tekken Tag was my favorite.

Eh i wouldn't hope for it, Tag2 fluke could be the sign for them to "not try too hard" because it still can fail. Ofc no real dev in their right mind works for failure but at the same time when you put so much effort into something and it doesn't get appreciated you as a dev feel heartbroken

@@LightWavess Yeah the problem is exactly that the reasoning can go both ways: the makers will be motivated either to work much hard to overdeliver the next sequel, or to make another bland sequel. Since TK7 was their biggest success.

@@LightWavess Also there's the fact that fg history has these cases of up and downs in the franchises regarding quality of non gameplay details (sometimes gameplay too). Not always but in many cases, to the point of becoming a notable pattern. Like SFIII3S didn't actually deliver well in special details as it could given the new hardware, but then SF4 did, and now SF5 didn't. And MvC1 did, and MvC2 didn't, then MvC3 did. And KoF 11 and 12 didn't, but 13 did, then 14 didn't, then 15 did (not much but it improved). And GG Xrd did, then GGS didn't in some aspects. Maybe these up and downs of "care" are natural in the games' lives. Like the makers who overworked in a certain game get lazy to work the same way in the direct sequel. Still that's more worrying in the case of TK, because it really had an incredible growth in TK7. Maybe it's one of the biggest success of a kinda bland sequel in modern fg history (much different than SF5 and MvCI for example). We can't be assured that now for TK8 the devs will care about special details again.

Unfortunately with the lack of support from players for Tag 2, the way Tekken 7 was handled will probably be the standard. It's a shame too. I was on TTT2 day one and put in hundreds of hours.

Tag 1 had a playable Ogre that has multiple touches of death & Tag 2 let you choose between single & tag to make the balance even worse than regular tag vs tag.
