Also Ma, some reasons for heartburn (you can copy and paste this somewhere to refer to if needed): It’s mainly because of your uterus pushing your stomach upwards And there’s a hormone called relaxin that’s increased in pregnancy that helps to relax your pelvis in prep for delivery, but it just happens to also relax the joining point of your stomach and your oesophagus *Things that may cause/contribute to it* - Fatty/fried/greasy foods (longer to digest) - Large meals - Starchy foods - Caffeine - Fizzy drinks like coke 🤣 - Chocolate - Spicy peppery foods *Things to help (not all work for everyone)* - Eat small amounts and frequently - Take a short walk after eating if you can or just be active in the house 15-20min - If you can, eat your last meal ~2-3h before sleep (pregnancy permitting 😅) - Sleep slightly propped up with pillows if you can (although sleep in pregnancy is already tricky sometimes) *Remedies that may help* - Chewing gum after food (May aid the process of digestion) - apples/ Bananas (alkaline to neutralise the acid) - Vinegar (seems counterintuitive but some say it helps close the lower oesophageal sphincter muscle; no strong scientific evidence but quite a bit of anecdotal evidence) - Gaviscon or prescription Omeprazole (as a last resort if necessary)
