Yes I definitely think you should continue doing these types of videos!!! I personally can relate. I wish the cde's would realize that sometimes we want to eat like a normal person. When I received training on the t-slim x2, I mentioned that I had Cookout one evening. She nearly had a cow!! I'm so glad to see you showing it's possible to eat carbs and remain fairly normal. I'm interested in how much you bolused for 100 gms of carbs tho❤

Definitely possible to have fun in life with a little food. I'm doing a webinar on exactly that in a few days haha. And I think it showed my bolus in the video!

Since starting control iQ I’ve been in range for THREE WHOLE DAYS. I’m in shock. It’s a miracle. I have noticed I seem to have more of a tendency to go low so I’m snacking more which I don’t like to do but THREE WHOLE DAYS 🎉 glad you finally got it!

As always your videos are a wealth of knowledge to T1Ds, thank you sooooooooo much for making them!!! I always learn something new from them and from your Pardon My Páncreas podcasts. Can’t wait to see what other things you find out about Control IQ. I haven’t updated yet, looking forward to it. BTW, I’m curious how are you able to have such high insulin sensitivity, it’s amazing that for 100 carbs you took less than 7 units 😮 . If there is a trick for that, I’d love to know it 😊.

Thank you so much and I'm so happy that you enjoyed it! Happy to keep making this stuff for you guys. On the note of insulin sensitivity, there is 100% a "right" way to do it, and I do it on purpose haha. It's actually part of the free webinar I'm giving on Tuesday! Are you registered yet?

This is great! I’m getting started on the TSlim on Tuesday and here in Canada were only getting started with Basal IQ but I’m so excited for the future technology that this pump is going to bring! I’ve been on the Omnipod for 7 years and the lack of updates and as I call it the dinosaur technology of the PDM definitely made me take the plunge and switch pumps! Super excited for more videos like this!

Control IQ isn’t meant to be totally automated. You have to Bolus and you should be able to Bolus properly all on your own.

Hey thanks for doing this experiment. It might have been better to not bolus w/ 100 carbs to see Control-IQ really in action. I just signed up for the update. BTW, looks like BJ's in Mission Valley!

FuRoSh1 - That’s not how you use it. You have to Bolus for meals. It cannot keep up fast enough to compensate for large meals. You’ll end up spiking high and then crashing after it bumps your basal and adds corrections. The proper way to manage BG levels is anticipation not playing catch up after the fact. You want a steady curve to your BG history not wide ups and downs.

Wait.... you said we shouldnt eat high fat, high carb, high protein meals because it can cause a spike... how so? I dont get it? Surely all those together would be a great, slow release meal where the insulin can control it really well?
@FTFWARRIOR
@FTFWARRIOR 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, rather that you'll need the right strategies in order to pull it off. Carbs, fats, and proteins all have different digestion "rates" and need to be paired with insulin timing properly. (We go deeper into these strategies in our program so that you CAN eat like this).

Biggest problem with control IQ is I can't run extended boluses over 2 hours. I used to use 4-8 for some meals and control IQ can't handle the late spikes. Any ideas?

@@FTFWARRIOR Many are limited by what their insurance situation is but what is the "best" if you have good insurance and a good doctor etc? Is the newest Dexcom really the best CGM? Is the Tandem pump smarter than the Medtronic? My endocrinologist said the service with Omnipod is horrible. Medtronic sends calls to the Philippines and then you get somebody who may or may not have acceptable English. It's ridiculous! I'm an American in America calling an American company and I have to struggle communicating with someone for whom English isn't even their first language. I wish 60 minutes would interview the CEO's who do this crap to their customers when they are charging the insurance companies a lot of money and this is literally life and death business.

Don't misunderstand my comment. I am glad this went well. I just feel sad at the moment because our t-slim is driving us crazy. The lost signal alarms will wake everyone in the house during the night. The blood sugars don't respond consistently enough that we can say what works and what doesn't. One day is high and the next is low. One day a high is stubborn to come down. The next a .6 makes you crash (from a 200). One night your ratio is x and the next night it is y. Please tell me a way to stop the screaming sounds of alarms for lost signals during the night. Right now we are still using only basal IQ. Not sure if we can handle more Control IQ with more alarms.
@patyearick6821

I'm new to Tandem also. Re: the lost signals - please note that the "face" of the pump needs to be away from your body. In other words, facing outward. The Bluetooth antenna/receiver must be in the back of the unit. Also, my trainer told me that the Dexcom signal doesn't really like going through your body. So, put your outward facing pump on the same side as your G6. I made those changes and have only had one signal loss in a couple of days vs. a number in the first day.

@@patyearick6821 you are so kind to offer such important information to us. Thank you so very much. We do do all those things and you are so so right. However, in our case it has not worked. I am praying that the problem was a box of bad sensors. Since all of them worked just fine for the first 3 or 4 days and then started losing signals hours at a time, we think there is a chance. However, I have seen online on a few of the sites I follow about diabetes and tech, a high number of others are experiencing some of the same problems. Dexcom replaced the bad ones and we are on day 1 of the new sensors. So far so good but it is day one. Thank you again though because even with good sensors, they would not work well without doing as you have said.

Worthy Book Journey - Signal issues will be user error, the pump or the transmitter. The sensors don’t have any impact on signal strength.
