1 year after your upload this technique is still valid. Thank you so much!! Now my little boy can drive the big passanger train with ease. Now i just have to find a different option for those batteries.

I use rechargeable AAA batteries. The NiCD batteries seem to do ok, but I know many use lithium batteries for their higher voltage and perhaps longer runtime. KeyBrick One is also an option but they are very expensive and often out of stock, I have a few friends that swear by them.

Thanks! The information was added at some point on their website, It's still kind of a pain to find. Why this information wasn't in the manuals that came with the set I'll never understand. I have an updated tutorial for PU that goes a little more in depth if you ever have any more issues, it's linked in the description. If you have any issues that aren't covered I'd like to hear about them.

Is there any way to connect a old Lego train like the blue 60052 cargo train with yellow passenger 60197 train together? Like so I can control both trains from one controller.

Yes, pretty much the same as what's shown in the video but make sure both motors are plugged into port A and they will be controlled together

Thank you for this video I’m used to the old power functions where you could use connect as many trains as you feel like and of the way you going. I currently have to Lapin Mersk trains that I bought two years ago and I want to finally motorised them, so I had to spare brand-new passenger train side shut the motors in and I thought it was just gonna be easy. Nope and I looked up and your video, but I’m extremely disappointed in Lego for this. Why can’t they go back to the 2006 remote control where we had a train horn and all that no I really hope Lego starts focusing on the train community because I reckon that is a market logo should focus on as well because they will make a lot of money. I mean look at Hornby but yet again thank you for this video and if I ever see people talk about this on the Internet I’m going to recommend this video to them.

Thanks! Some of the info in this video is incorrect / outdated. I'll link my newer video, I've debated on deleting this video but it still gets views so I'm between a rock and a hard place. I don't know if it was added after the fact or not, but LEGO does have instructions for pairing multiple hubs now. At this point I don't expect LEGO to do any better for the train community, they are focused on their target audience, which is not AFOLs. The Train theme (or now just a party of City) has been going downhill for decades. The 12v line was peak for train enthusiasts. Here's the more recent video with updated information kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e92ihNhlrrfMZmw.html

great tip about updating the trains, but it worked out now to pair 2 trains on the same controller, but how did you manage to let drive 1 train in reverse and the other fwd, so the a double set can be joined? now we changed the front and rear assembly

In this case I physically turned the motor around and ran the cable through the back. Now I'm using PyBricks (an alternative to the official Lego firmware) and a program modified by one of our discord members to allow for controlling multiple trains and having full control of the direction of each of the motors
@eivindtoreid6590

I chose another way to turn the motor around. I changed the order of the bogies so that one of my locomotives run with the motor in the cab end, while the other has the motor in the end connected to the rest of the train.

@@BatteryPoweredBricks just watched your PyBricks video as well, reversing the motor direction, a slow precise mode you can turn on and off, hold to slowly accelerate, program gentle acceleration to set speed setting, run two motors off the one hub from one switch, with one in reverse. THIS IS INCREDIBLE. wondering if it would let me control one Train per side of the remote, both with two hubs, (on hub on each end of a passenger train) and both ends of each train having two motors, half of all motors running in reverse. I will be playing with this as soon as I tidy up and reorganise the lego room/city - so in another few months haha. Thank you so much, you're the best resource for lego train powered up set up and modification that I've found . By far!

Thanks! I got back into Lego trains last year and it took me quite a lot of research to learn all I did. I prefer concise tutorials with voice over and didn't really see any I liked, so I made my own 😅. With PyBricks I don't think there is a way to connect multiple hubs to a single remote. They are constantly working on new things so this may change. Another option is using the Brick Automation Project software and you can control many trains with sliders on a PC. I have a video on that as well 😁. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out, I don't think of it as work or tech support, more like potential video ideas 😀. Play well!

That's an option too, which I've mentioned in other videos. But when performing shunting maneuvers with several trains a single button per train makes it a lot easier

2:48 Well said. It is really disappointing indeed. After watching videos from The Held Der Steine (German channel) I've really started to dislike what LEGO is doing to their new and existing customers. I used to be a fanboy, but nowadays I kinda boycot it. I'm happy with the sets I own, the 9V system was the best, altho PF has better cables (hopefully!) Hope this video is helpful, I wouldn't have figured this stuff out at least.

I mostly stick to buying used Lego, but will still buy new products if they meet my standards / budget. If it wasn't for third party firmware / software such as Pybricks for the new Powered Up devices I may not have bought in at all. Official apps will only be around so long before being abandoned. For me Lego isn't about the company, it's an idea, it's a community, Whatever bad decisions the Lego company makes will never change that for me

I tried your way and it still doesn't work in my case. It's driving me nuts! I want to connect a passenger train and a cargo train (to hubs) to one controller. Both trains connect individually and work jus fine but when I have one paired I just can't connect the other at the same time. Any other suggestions? I tried reseting both hubs and remote, ofc.

I have an updated video that shows it a bit more clearly. When connecting the second hub, press the button on the hub and the light will start blinking. Then press and hold the button on the second hub and the controller for a couple seconds, it should connect right up. If you still have issues you can connect the hubs to a phone with the Powered Up app and make sure it has the latest firmware.

@@BatteryPoweredBricks Thanks for the reply. I tried your way many times and it didn't work. However, the good news is I finally managed to connect two trains to the same controller. After I had paired the first train with remote controller I paired the second train (that is hub inside of it) with... the first train (simply by pressing green buttons for a moment on both trains at the same time for a second). Now it works - I can control both trains with the same remote controller. Every time I turn on the trains I repeat the procedure.

I have an updated video that is a bit better. I pretty much use PyBricks exclusively now. One of our discord members has been updating a script from a Eurobricks user and adding several features. He's currently working on multiple trains on one controller. But it already allows for smooth acceleration, lights, tying multiple locomotives together and much more. I wasn't really a fan of BT for trains until I started using PyBricks and the Brick Automation Project software. I never really liked Power Functions IR control, plenty of problems there as well

@@BatteryPoweredBricks I tried to follow the LEGO instructions for connecting two different hubs to one controller but their instructions are clear as mud and I couldn’t get it to work. There was some other instruction for something else which said to wait for the purple light. I’d see a blue light but not a purple one so thought I was doing something wrong until I realised the blue light was purple (even my housemate described it as blueish-lavender, and not really purple). Generally I find implementation of Bluetooth by most companies to be half-baked and convoluted, and LEGO is certainly no exception. I have a day off work today for Anzac Day so will read up on PyBricks. It’s been some years since I last did some coding but text based is definitely preferable to obscure esoteric icons which are almost indistinguishable from each other on a phone screen.

We all use the same script for our trains. It automatically determines the type of motor etc. You just have to set the direction they need to turn. I made a tutorial at the end of last year that should be mostly up to date. Also if you are a discord user you can join us there for the latest updates / exploits. They are much better coders than me 😅
