Does the firmware still just stop working and leave things bricked?

Hey, all modules were effected by a depreciated dependency built into the module's bootloader. It was an annoying problem, and the identification of it took a long time. Now it's fixed: docs.intech.studio/guides/troubleshooting/bootloader

hi is it possible to use the controllers with ios?

Yes. Grid controllers are class compliant MIDI devices, they are recognized by iOS. If you are using an iPad with lightning adapter, you might need the apple camera connection kit. For USB-C iPad variants, just plug and play.
