Well guys in this one I tackle a mod that I am sure everyone has heard about. The primary spring removal. With the help of JBS Performance and James' secondary spring I am modifying my clutching, along with the clutch cooling! James and I were talking and he let me in on a downfall of the stock clutch case fan that I had no idea about. There are massive gaps that will almost render the fan useless and barely cooling the clutches at all. I do his mod and open up my breather boxes. Stick around till the end to see the result of the modifications.

So what do you think guys? Have you done the primary spring removal? Are you satisfied with the results? What differences did you find?

Been running JBS secondary spring and weights with no primary spring for a year now, around 1500km no issues as of yet tried many different weight setups with and without the spring installed with varying results

@@d3offroad Fantastic. Yep, thats what I am chasing is the perfect clutch set-up. i know it doesn't exist but if I can figure out what I like for different terrains and rides it will make the performance aspect so much easier to attain! I just love a great performing clutch.

I just put a JBS weight kit on mine, initially tried the setup that James recommended for stock 31" tires (no primary spring and one set of bolts closest to the radius point of the weights). I just tried putting the primary spring back in to see the difference, no bueno, it revs too high. The only reason I tried putting the primary spring back in was because I felt it was a little lethargic in the bottom to mid revs. At the end of the day, I'll run my original setup (without primary) and be happy.

Yep, that's the problem with clutching, it is very personal. What one person thinks is perfect may make another person think it's terrible. There is nothing wrong with experimenting, you can move your weights around to vary the rpms to see if you like something else.

So..... You removed the primary spring, and replaced the secondary spring with the JBS spring. What difference does that make while riding? I have removed my primary spring, which I like much better, but am interested to know the difference riding with the aftermarket secondary spring, and if I should replace my secondary spring as well.

@@benjamindrake7749 yep, I got James's beefed up secondary spring. With just the stock the back shifting is a little slow and the upshifting is a little fast. The stiffer spring just puts the shifting in a better range for power if you ask me. Some may like it with just the primary removed and lower rpm. It's personal preference but that's what the beefy secondary does.

Doing this the hard way, take 5 extra minutes, jack it up, pull the tire and the bottom shock bolt, swing the shock out of your way, everything is wide open to work on then, and buy a bolt to spread the clutch, there cheap. And just my opinion, to each thier own, the sealing of the CVT case is a great idea, but drilling holes in the CVT is a bad idea, gotta figure, all that dust that gets kicked up is going right down that intake specially now you got better air flow moving, Kawi should of did a system to the intakes in the front under the hood, IMO it would be alot better.

True, there are better ways to do the clutches. Now I just take them off. The primary will slide past the rear shock if it is at ride height or a bit lower. I hear you about the CVT as well. My thinking is going back to my quad days, none of them were filtered and they were fine, also snorks aren't filtered so I just said to hell with it and opened up the boxes. Lots of people are just getting rid of them all together and I haven't heard of any problems. I appreciate the input though! Thanks for watching!

After u removed the primary spring a decided to clean the primary,did u just use air hose to get rid of the dust,or use a liquid to clean it up ?
@RhinoOffroad-zq8fh
@RhinoOffroad-zq8fh 3 ай бұрын
Hey Bill, I try to just use air. Other than wiping down the faces, which I didn't show here. My thinking is that liquid could drag a bunch of dust to a corner i can't get to with the air hose and it will turn into a pocket that could potentially throw off the balance.

JBS is not what they claim to be! How do I know because I have a riding buddy that has done all of the JBS upgrades. First he bought the weights that caused his rollers to wear out. Then he had to buy new rollers, JBS of course then had to buy new weights because he was running his primary spring that JBS popped up and said he wouldn’t warranty the weights because he was running spring but was never told not to. Now he removes primary spring but has to buy a new secondary spring. Meanwhile I’m still running stock and I can go anywhere he goes in WV and TN. I will replace my stock weights as needed and save a lot of money!!! And for the frog skins they are easy to take off and clean! Drilling holes in the intake and depending on only the air filter to stop dust from going into your engine??? I look forward to seeing your upcoming video on an engine rebuild! Keeping the clutch and belt cooler should not be the main focus of maintaining your KRX! Have a good day!!!

Thanks for your input! I am always monitoring my drive line and engine condition so I plan on updating if anything starts to fail. I am not sponsored by anybody so that cuts down on the fake reviews. I have been a part of the off-road world for about 35 years and I know if you start to B.S. people know and you lose your credibility, so I am always going to call it as I see it. No worries there. As for the holes in my boxes there are already thousands of people that snorkel and delete the boxes completely in the interest of a more free flow. The snorkels have zero filtering as well. All I did is a free mod that essentially does the same thing. Attain more air flow. My engine will be fine. Thanks for watching!

@@RhinoOffroad-zq8fh yeah sorry about that I went a little overboard there. I just don’t like the idea of JBS selling weights and when some of them failed he said it was because of the primary spring and he wouldn’t warranty them because people ran them with the primary spring but didn’t mention that when the weights were purchased. I know a lot of people love JBS and he is very knowledgeable when it comes to clutching. Do you still run the stock air filter? I don’t know for sure but I have heard the stock air filter seal let’s dust pass through. Thanks for taking the time to put out content for us Kawasakians to watch!

@@timmyphillips9023 No worries man. I encourage all opinions. I have run the UNI foam air filter pretty much since day 1. I am an X motocrosser and UNI has been on every one of my race bikes without failure of any kind. I have a few more videos coming in the mechanical department like beefed up tie rods and alignment, possibly a steering wheel mod, but other than that I am dying to get back to ride vids. I am going on the road a lot this year to several locations in the States and Canada so stay tuned for more content.
