Convention Kitchen | How to cook food in a hotel room

Thanks for checking out my video! I walk through a few different food options for cooking food in a hotel room at a convention using only a tea kettle for heat. I hope this helps anyone who is trying to find additional food options or some ways to save money at the convention. Looking forward to Dragon*Con 2021, stay healthy folks!

Adding the single serve veggies! Great idea. I have also added canned chicken. I bring a dozen hard boiled eggs.

Thank you for the ideas. I was given a older tea kettle from my neighbor and she told me that she would use it while traveling and cook in it because it had a flat bottom. While traveling through 3 states to get to my granddaughter’s wedding I did my hotel cooking. I can a lot of beef stew which I took with me and first I heated water for instant potatoes then removed all the water and then heated the beef stew in the tea kettle and made a little slurry with flour/water which thickened it. Once done it was spooned over the mash potatoes and everyone (my son and family traveled with us too) was very happy for a filling meal. It was served with french bread bought at a grocery store and saved a con$iderable amount of money! I also always carry my soft bag cooler with all my coffee supplies. The kettle, my favorite coffee and my husband’s, pour over coffee dripped, our sugars, stirrers and paper cups. This goes with me even when visiting family members as I know I’ll always have my style of coffee.

Wrapping the food thermos in towel will retain more heat. When it is placed directly on a counter top, the surface literally sucks the heat right out of your container. Also I find that if the thermos is tilted the food does not compact on the bottom, making it much easier to mix and spoon out.

Okay I’ve done my fair share of dressing up cheap ramen and I’ve never thought to add single serve veggies like that! Also didn’t know about spicy sesame oil!!! That’s a must try for me 😍

I go backpacking every year and what I do would work great for hotel food. I repackage food into freezer bags then add boiling water to bags, throw away bags, no dishes to wash. Example: Substitute Biscuits & Gravy: 1 package of Ramen broken up into small pieces (don't use seasoning packet) + 1/2 packet Pioneer Country Gravy + 1 cup boiling water, lit sit five minutes. Biscuits are flour and so is Ramen.

Have you ever done an egg on Ramen in a convention setting? Is it way more trouble than it's worth to store the egg in a cooler?

Yes we generally try to stay away from anything needing refrigeration, an ice chest totally works to keep them cold. For us keeping the ice chest stocked isn't worth it but we have done it in the past. As long as the ice maker on your floor is working it isn't too much trouble.
