Saw this Movie on Friday, April 28th with my 9 year old Goddaughter. I had her read the book during the weekend before. I first read this book 50 years ago. I reread the book so that I could discuss the book with my Goddaughter before seeing the Movie. We both LOVED the Movie and are going back to the Theatre to see it again this weekend!

Judy Blume (and Beverly Cleary) were my childhood. She's fantastic, and I hope this movie does well! She's waited for decades to sell the rights to it.

The 1970s was a very repressive time for children growing up, and I do realize it depends on where too. Honolulu still has a small town mentality. So it was very illuminating to break those boundaries in children's literature. And I love the interviews with the child actors who have made it clear that though they don't express themselves as embarrassed by the subject matter, they could still play the awkwardness. (though I did catch an anachronistic v-jay-jay gesture that looked a little too modern from the character of Gretchen.)

When I was in school, the boys and girls were separated so that the latter could read it aloud and discuss it for a week with the Home Ec teacher. The former read “Then Again, Maybe I Won’t” with the shop instructor. (Judy Blume’s follow up book meant to be the equivalent but for boys). So many parents were upset but for different reasons. The girls’ parents got angry because of the book’s subject matter. The boys’ parents were mad because the male shop teacher (I swear the dude looked and acted like Ron Swanson) said, “What the hell does a woman author know about young men?” and had us basically fool around with the tools in the shop unsupervised.

The movie is definitely entertaining, but the film doesn't focus only on the teenagers side. You will discover how each of us never stops growing, adapting and changing, not only physically, during the years. We are a constant work in progress and the movie pictured it very well. And remember to take your daily dose of the inspiring dance, you won't miss a chance to grow your bust, young ladies! (Joking!) :))

I can’t wait for the movie!! This was my absolute favorite book when I was younger! My friends and I all read it and talked about all day everyday lol. It got us through those pre teen years. I remember my best friend saying “I’m going to die before I ever start my period or gets boobs!” 😂 !

I remembered when Margaret’s and 😂Mom went shopping 🛍 to get her a bra especially when the sales lady suggests Gro- Bra especially when her Mom’s said, Welcome To Womanhood when they are trying on various ones. I love it 🥰 especially when Evan and Moose broke in especially when the girls doing exercises We Must! We Must Increase Our Bust! especially when Nancy’s got mad at them when she’s said shut up! Get Outta Here especially they’re laughing at them. Jennydebrier

I suspect that the girls were directed to go over the top and really loud, or it would look like a choregraphed dance number. The boys looked like they had more rhythm than the girls.

I just saw the film and it’s really sad they portrayed both Jews and Christians in such a negative way.

I watched the film last night and was heartened to see that I was the only male among a dozen or so females. 🫡 Anyway, the film is an absolute delight! It's about finding yourself, developing and refining your ethical framework, and the mental liberation of progressing from a secular upbringing to atheism under the pressure of religious dogmatism. ✌️
