CONVERSATIONS IN AUTISM is a video series. There are no numbers. There is no sequence. They are ongoing. They are uploaded sporadically with our other videos when Max feels up for another conversation. They are driven by him. He holds the keys to what gets filmed and what gets posted.
My name is Chad Youngquist. I’ve been a special needs father since 2007. My son Max is autistic. I’ve learned a lot over the years, and a lot of it is stuff I learned the hard way. Sometimes I wish someone would have told me how to do this. But no one knew to, and if they did, they would never have been able to tell me about our specific circumstance. So as I try to help others, I have to realize that we’re not all in the same boat. So whatever you see on this channel, my hope is that most people can learn something from it. I try to respond to all comments, so hit me up if you have questions.
You can find me on Instagram at / chad.youngquist

Keep your head up! Things will get better!
@dannestrom
@dannestrom 3 жыл бұрын
@@rebeccamayer1287 Why do you want to test? There won't be any cure or anything anyway, The important thing, if you ask me, is self awareness. Knowing what makes you do certain things, because if you do, you can also learn different strategies for coping with challenging situations. Another thing is communication. I know many autists have problems with talking about emotions and stuff. I'm autistic myself, so I've been going through a lot too. Now when I meet new people, many of them can't tell that I'm autistic, unless they are autistic themselves and have a lot of experience with other autistic people. When I tell people that I'm autistic, they think I'm joking. I'm not "cured", and don't wish to be cured either. I have just learnt strategies to cope better with challenging situations, and I'm also better at communication now, than I was when I was younger. I can not tell you what to do. The strategies that work for me, might not work for you. We are all individuals. Always when I help people (to better understand themselves or help parents understand their autistic children), I do it by having a dialogue with the person. You know yourself better than I ever will do. I can tell uni how I cope with a certain situation, and then ask you if you think it would be worth a try for you. Then it's entirely up to you, if you want to try something, Many of the so called specialist, know surprisingly little about autism and ADHD and stuff. That's why so many kids with ADHD are just given medication, instead of teaching them how to cope with challenges. The psychiatrist know what they have read in some books, but they seldom have first hand experience. They haven't lived with autism, so it's hard for them to empathise with autists. They can be kind and patient with us, but they can never fully understand what goes on inside my head, unless they are autistic themselves.

I love these conversations. I'm an adult with autism and ADHD, and I have a 12 year old son with autism. I also drum on my chest with my fingers, I bounce my legs, and I make a clicking noise with my tongue along with a few others, and my son also wrings his hands. As someone who's had to suppress so many of my stims for so long, it makes me so happy to know that Max is given space to have his!

My mother has autism, and was diagnosticated when she was 47 years, 5 years ago. She have Asperger's syndrome, and always feel a horrible pain all over her body, she thinks very fast and was always the top in school and in her work. Although we have arguments and she takes it way more hard than i do on them, we love each other very much and even when i'm right i apologize, because i never really want to hurt her and i know that she thinks different than me and can understand things more profusely than i could ever do or not understand things i undertand wit ease. Every person is different, so is my lovely mommy. She is the sweetest mom i could ever dream to have in my life. And i am also very proud and glad of her on her improvement through life, and i always say i love her and hug her. Overall, thank you for doing a incredible parenting, you have a sweet boy with infinite possibilities that can be explored through time and love, don't ever let those moments pass by your eyes without holding them dear.

You are a great parent. You may not know the healing progress of this child, is because of your deep love for him. Thank you so much.

Man, I was watching him overcome his fears in the bathtub, and wow all I can say is I was smiling the whole time I don't know why but it just made me happy to see someone overcoming their fears. Max, you are truly an amazing person. Never give up buddy.

Hello. I was diagnosed with autism at 16 and I am turning 21 next month. Because of my late diagnosis, I did not have the appropriate resources and support that I needed growing up. It is still very challenging. Watching your videos has helped me learn more about myself. So thank you for these Conversations in Autism. p.s. Max and I are both wearing red shirts today :) Funny coincidence.

Love this. My son does a yawn when he's stimming. He also makes loud noises. It varies when he's angry or excited and the difference is obvious as his parent. He does things like pace etc. I will be following your channel as I think it will really help me understand more he's 11. We have a great relationship and he's very open with me. I hope like your son he starts being able to understand his feelings a little more as he gets older. Well done Max thankyou for exsplaining how you feel :) x
