In this new Spanish language learning video, we will explore a range of common conversations that might arise during construction and renovation work. We will look at the use of different verb tenses, specialised vocabulary and everyday phrases to help you get by in this context.
00:02 we see how materials are chosen in a construction shop, where the man and the woman discuss bathroom tiles, emphasising the importance of practicality and aesthetics.
00:49 In the second scenario, we explore the idea of changing a bathtub for a shower tray, where the challenge of renovation and the search for solutions are discussed.
02:08 Next, we'll delve into the restoration of the windows and exterior of a house, discussing costs and hiring a carpenter.
03:24 Finally, we will witness a negotiation with a contractor, where budgets are analysed and deadlines are discussed.
Throughout the video, we will observe how present and conditional tenses are used to express wishes, suggestions and possibilities. In addition, we will learn specific vocabulary related to construction and renovation, as well as common phrases used in this context.
Spanish colloquial expressions:
Ser Manitas: This is a colloquial expression used to describe a person skilled or adept at doing manual work, especially repairing or creating objects. When someone is a ‘handyman’, it means that they have the skills to fix things themselves, without the need to hire a professional.
El curro: This is a colloquial way of saying ‘work’ and is used both to talk about the place where one works and to refer to work activity in general. For example, ‘Ir al curro’ means going to work, and ‘hablar del curro’ refers to discussing work-related issues.
