Jovani joined NYCB as a soloist from Miami City Ballet in the fall of 2019. His talent and kindness were obvious immediately, and we are so lucky to have him as part of our team. We talk about how weird it is to be without work right now, especially for Jovani who has returned to his hometown in Brazil for the majority of the pandemic. We follow his journey as a young boy in Brazil at a Bolshoi satellite school, to the Balanchine style at Miami City Ballet. Jovani is very into Kundalini yoga, Reiki and meditation, which I absolutely love, and we talk about how necessary healthy coping mechanisms are in our industry. Oh yeah, and we also break out the counts for the entire finale of Christopher Wheeldon's Polyphonia, so that you get a little taste of the madness/complexity of the counts we have to memorize for our choreography sometimes.

So nice to see you back… What a lovely young man I didn’t get to see him perform at Lincoln Center. The last show my sister and I went to see was nutcracker 2019… I think everybody has had a little dash of depression. Although I’ve never suffered from mental health, this is a time that depression hit so many of us. Being a lover of the arts is been a difficult 7 months not to be able to see a show at Lincoln Center, Broadway, City Center and so many outdoor performances were canceled in New York City this past summer. Welcome back to KZfaq. I missed you. I hope you are enjoying France.

Megan, another delightful interview. I have so much I want to comment on: the counts (HA??) for Polyphonia, which I saw you and Jovani in, and I also saw Jovani in Episodes as well as in In G Major with Unity Phelan during this past Winter 2020 Season. He is a great addition to NYCB, but from this interview I now know he is also a special human being. Megan enjoy your time in France with your family, and Jovani, enjoy your time with your family as well.

The Polymnia counts are INCREDIBLE. Very interesting interview. I love to hear dancer to dancer conversations! What a treat. I love the way he talked about his relationship. You get such a full, easeful view of a person in Megan's interviews. I always love the way they talk about the other exercises ballet dancers do. I love the conversational style of Meghan's interviews. And I like the way she shares about her life. (Dont forget it didnt have to be this apocolyptic save for the orange menace.Vote.) Jovani is such a beautiful dancer. Beautiful line, legs, and feet. I enjoyed this so much. Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Meghan and Jovani. Such beautiful dancers. Meghan's so real.

Another great and informative interview! I really enjoy learning about all these amazing human beings and dancers. I can feel the passion through the screen and your sense of humor is so refreshing. My daughter is also doing remote Ballet classes and I really miss the community that she has at her school where her friends and teachers help her not just be a better artist but just be a more balanced human being LOL. She is almost 14😊! If children enjoy Ballet/Dance and are doing their art in a nurturing environment then I truly believe it’s such a great place to “grow up” in where they have a home away from home during the turbulent teenaged years. Thank you again for sharing!

So nice to hear from Jovani! I saw him and Ashley Bouder in Swan Lake this past February! It was my first time seeing swan lake. I didn't know he was new to the company, he was amazing as prince siegfried. Wish both of you the best!

Thank you Megan for another excellent interview. I loved hearing Jovanis story from early training on. All the other fascinating aspects, like the counts to Polyphonia and coping tools you use are very interesting as well. While live performances are on hold, these interviews are helping us to stay connected. Hope to see you two dancing together very soon!💕
