Convert A Dewalt Brushless Max String Trimmer For A Universal Head

I bought the 60V Max and love it, minus the head. The line breaks too easily inside the spooling head when you bump into thicker stuff while trimming, so I decided to upgrade to a Husqvarna 537388101 Universal T35 Tap Advance Straight Shaft String Trimmer Head Prewound With .095-Inch Line. It's a little tricky figuring out how to prep the Dewalt to take a universal head, but in this video, I show you how to get the Dewalt to a universal standard. Once there, you can pick your best option.

Spent all day trying to remove a length of line that got wrapped under the spindle's plate. Gave up. Found your video and took a couple of minutes to take off the spindle and plate. 3 inches of line was wrapped around the shaft. Thank you for your video.

Just so you know... you don't need to take the head unit apart. Just insert a locking pin (flat head driver, 16d nail, etc.) through the notches and grab the head at the base and turn. It is connected to the left hand nut via the square at the bottom of the nut.
@patrickhenrypdx5355
@patrickhenrypdx5355 Жыл бұрын
With the bump-feed head completely assembled on the trimmer, simply turn the trimmer upside down (as shown in the video), put the screwdriver into the slot to block the base from turning, and grab the bump-feed head and turn it clockwise. The whole thing will unscrew. All you need is a screwdriver ... no other tools needed. :-) The trimmer stud is M10x1.25 left-hand thread. It has about 20mm of projection beyond the flat aluminum base that sits under the bump-feed head, about 16mm of which is usable thread.

FYI: Thank you for the video! Saved myself alot of time. Replaced in 10 min. with the DEWALT QUICKLOAD REPLACEMENT SPOOL HEAD Part #DW01DT995. Goes on just as easy with no added parts needed (REVERSE THREAD). Just screw on exposed threaded black shaft once aluminum shaft is screwed off (reverse thread). Aluminum shaft NOT used again. I installed on my DEWALY 20v 13in. trimmer. R-ROD
@a1930ford
@a1930ford 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that DeWalt Quickload head is a true piece of crap and will break very, very easily. About $35 bucks a pop to replace the thing, as no parts are available and those units by DeWalt are basically out of stock in most places, now. Don't believe me? Just check out the reviews on any box store that sells them. It is a 50/50 split on the Quckload products, so they are not a good quality head to use. The Husqvarna T35 heads will replace the DeWalts just like the original and the cost is really cheap in doing so. Those Husqvarna replacement heads do indeed have all parts easily obtainable and will last much, much longer. Those heads also allow the.095 heavier string to be used and Husqvarna even beats the price and dependability with the titanium string they make, as well.

I don't know what fits on the dewalt trimmer, but i do know how trimmer heads are removed on most brands of gas and I'm guessing most electrics too. That's why i was on this video so i could see what fits the trimmer. If the echo head fits on the dewalt then I would assume you could buy a kit for the echo and it will fit. The echo head is used on many other brands of trimmers too, so I'm guessing again that they are standard shaft and thread size. Remove your trimmer head and measure from the center of the shaft to the line cutter on your guard to get your radius and multiply that x 2 for your diameter. You don't want the wire cutter hitting the line cutter, so subtract from the diameter you measured to the next smallest standard wire wheel size so it doesn't make contact. This i all i can say because i haven't actually done this either. PS if whatever kit you buy doesn't come with a left hand threaded nut, you might have to follow the video so you can remove the factory nut for use of your new cutter
@shroom903
@shroom903 3 жыл бұрын
I have a dcst920 dewalt trimmer. I just removed the head and measured. It has a 14" diameter. Then i looked at the wire cutters and they are sold in 6 and 8 inch so the measurement doesn't matter. I'm sure the motor could spin either one of them. The 6 in would be easier on this light duty trimmer and the 8 in would give more cutter speed due to it's larger diameter but may get overloaded easier. It's hard to say until you try it. Electric motors tend to produce alot of torque instantly so it may not have a problem with either. If you buy a wire cutter wear long pants, shoes and glasses. If they are anything like wire wheels i have used on grinders the wires will come off during use. I say this because I'm sure I'm not the only one that will use a trimmer wearing shorts and crocs although we aren't supposed too

No, no, no! Tho WHOLE ENTIRE HEAD just screws off in 5 seconds. There’s no need to dismantle the head to take it off. The head is held on to a left threaded shaft, so you unscrew the head to the right, and there is a small hole in the side base that you put a screwdriver into to keep the shaft from turning. Just unscrew the head and screw on a different head in seconds. Otherwise great video. 😊

The original heads on string trimmers all SUCK, so to speak, because they depend on the string unwinding as needed, meaning constant tangling. I found a great solution called Badger Head, an engineered solution that solves the problem AND enables the string to be replaced with brush cutter blades pretty easily.
