In this lesson, you will learn about the various temperature scales used in chemistry, physics, biology, and other sciences. We will focus on the Celsius, Kelvin, and Fahrenheit temperature scales. Celsius is calibrated so that zero degrees C is equal to the freezing point of water and 100 C is the boiling point of water. The Kelvin scale has the same temperature degree widths, but is shifted down so that 0 kelvin is defined to be when atomic motion ceases. We also will convert these scales into the Fahrenheit scale.

Thanks for sharing these lessons. A person can have an excellent teacher and still not get it. Sometimes we just need a different person teaching with a different way of explaining that makes sense in our brain. I love the internet.

I'm so excited to continue these chemistry lessons & learning from you that I downloaded Vol. 1 & 2 from your website. Is there anyway to get downloaded lessons of these more current videos you've made in the blue shirt? Some of lessons are the same Volume, Unit, and Section number, but the content is different than what I've been learning here. (for instance Course 1 Unit 1 Sect 2 on here is "States of Matter", but in the website download Course 1 Unit 1 Sect 2 is "Units & Unit Conversions" ) Thanks!

Interesting, in the light of all of that, how Kelvin (or anyone) was even able to come up with such a precise floating point value mapping (273.15) while at the same time not being able to reach the 0 point in practice. The 'temperature' of light/color, for that matter, is usually a coarse number like 6500K... Kind of leaves me pondering.

Because the conversion to Kelvin is 273.15 not 273. Using 273 would introduce in accuracies into the conversion calculation.

@jareddo06 11 ай бұрын
@@GoddessJihanMost likely just personal preference? 110 is a nice round number, but would pose some inaccuracies (around 1.5555°C). Sig figs would tell you where you *should* round your number.

K = C° + 273.15 Of scale

Why do they say 9/5ths? 9/5ths = 1.8 C*1.8+32 is easier to do in your head. Why do they teach 9/5ths?
@jareddo06
@jareddo06 11 ай бұрын
9/5 is a very easy number to memorize. Also, when you're converting from Fahrenheit to Celsius, you're going to use .5555555555++ which takes away so many sig figs, while 5/9 doesn't. Memorizing the fraction form is just more efficient(?), to say the least.
