Converting A Rumble Seat To A Trunk! - Mike’s 1934 Ford Crapiolet

Mike's 34 Cabriolet was originally a rumble seat car and today we are going to convert it to a trunk. Matt recently found some Bob Drake repro hinges recently and with the new b-pillar bar it gives us a place to create mounts. Mike gets to work installing the hinges onto the trunk lid and using CAD to design some mounts. Since Matt's in Australia, Mike has to break out the Mig welder and zaps in the mounts. The Crapiolet is coming together and hopefully will see the road this year!!

A good example of the complexities of hot rodding where one has to figure ways to put things together that weren’t intended to go together. Good work Mike! Looking forward to seeing this one running and driving.

Well done Mike, the bracket and the trunk fit-up is quite close. Some finessing and the trunk will open/close even better. Learning that there's always more work or forgotten tasks. Like the stays and latch.

Way to go Mike! I'm really happy seeing the progress that you have been making! I was also glad to hear that you are preparing a flathead to go in before long. Really a great choice of motors Mike! Of course I am very partial! haha I am loving your build and only thing wrong with it is that it isn't mine! :) The 33-34 has always been my favorite body style among Henry's beautys. Nice job putting the trunk lid on. Glad to see you doing a bit of welding again! Thanks lots for another fun video. Looking forward to seeing you enjoying it!

Good job, Mike! Are you going to get Matt to teach you TIG? It's much like gas welding except the heat source is an arc instead of a flame. I found the hardest part keeping the tungsten electrode from touching the work. The slightest contact damages the electrode and it has to be cleaned and re-pointed before continuing. A pain! I'm looking forward to seeing your flathead.

Fabulous progress on the Victoria, you can tell everything is coming together, and stronger than new! One question...Except for outright restorations, how come we never see any rumble seats? My Dad and Uncle were really into antique cars while I was growing up in the fifties. Dad had a '29 Buick Roadster, and Uncle Alex had a '32 Packard Convertible Coupe. Both of these had rumble seats, where I loved to ride.

All Cabriolet's were Deluxe models, so they never had provisions for decklid or hinges. Probably the closest would be a 3 window coupe. How were the hinges mounted on a 3 window?
