Now you have seen it can be done, Do It Yourself (DIY). Build a Tiny House just for the kicks of it. Now don't trust me, Watch a Youube, then copy what they say. It wont work, but you still find a way to do it. No matter what it will show, it will take 10 time longer then a professional, but you aint paying for there labor. A DIY person sticks it out and finishes . Also, we are cheap, inexpensive labor. That why we do it. :-)

That depends on where you live, I live in just north of Tucson in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains and there's no need to replace the windows because the weather is mostly mild and even when it gets "hot" there's always a breeze coming down off the mountains.

If its in North Country and gonna be used in winter, dont seal it too tight, keep some airflow or it will mold out. Cabin fever...

Re-using painters tape. This is a man after my own heart. Frugality at its best. EDIT: Watched further and see it is your WIFE who is being frugal. Very nice.

Not bad. I did this but with lots more in 2015. Totally off grid, 27 miles from a power source' In Flagstaff az. It's in the paper. Used 400 watts of solar from renergy solar And build my own system. Same system is still working today Only upgraded to 600. Refrigerator freezer, TV, Fans and led lights. Cast iron woodburning stove. Queen size bed in the loft. 196 Square feet perfect for 2. Also used energy seal blown in Self expanding foam. Same green foam used in the baby's rooms in the hospital. Totally amazing and adds 30% ragidity to the structure. Removed the aluminum windows and add a double pane gas filled vinyl windows. Big improvement. Good start guys have fun. I did for 3 and a 1/2 years before I sold it and moved. Oh and total cost $15,000 not including property. Sold for over $180k. Off grid ❤️

Very nice. Inspiring, thank you. I would like to do the same in Tennessee. I'm going to build in a very remote, rural location, completely off-grid, also. A Batchelor pad for myself and my dog. Another out building/garage for the truck, ATV, and storage of supplies. I can't wait. Saving my money now....

Last yr, my son's friend bought this and we wired it for him in a weekend! Elec hot water tank went under the stair landing. Elec Panel was above that with elec service meter on the N end of the building. Circuits went up through upper and lower stair well walls. Toilet, shower, was under stairs, 30" door on rt end. Kitchen cabinets from stair to bathroom door. Wood stove in S. back corner of liv room. Mini/split AC N end, next to elec service. Upstairs big bedroom and sleeper/sofa down stairs for company. His Tuff Shed roof sagged and walls spread after heavy rains! We pulled the walls back in with come-alongs, Bolted steel cables thru the wall headers, next to each roof rafter with turn buckles in the center for adjusting. Then added an L shaped brace above the ceiling and short vertical 2x4's bracing the center ridge. Building wouldn't have passed a framing inspection as-is but the guys who built the kit weren't framers and there was no inspections out in the country... Glad we caught it in the elec rough in stage!

@@FearlessRambler Roof trusses prevent the spreading effect. But open roof rafters werent secured to ceiling joists... We fixed it for him...

I think it really depends on where you live. My uncles can put this together in 1 week but they’re carpenters in the Bahamas….. just depends.

Glad you commented. I bought a deck box to hold our bee boxes & etc........ imagine my surprise when I opened it up after winter. Everything in the world made a home. They infested everything...... which makes more work for me & I'm old & lazy 😋💖. Everything has to be emptied out & the box HAS to be taken apart cause things lay eggs everywhere. smh lol.....Live & Learn. 🙃😎🌻

I always look at these sheds and think what a great she-shed it would make or a joke that that’s where my dad will go 😆. So so I just have the rifle for the room but hey it’s a start 😆 great video!

It would be a great project for a she-shed. With mountain lions ans bears that go through the property, sometimes you need to be prepared. At least a noise maker. Have a great day.

yeah...INSANE! My 400 sq ft Studio on 4th floor Walk-up at the Brookmoor in Old Town Pasadena was $425/Month back in '90....and BadaBing! Now it is $2400/month. Mortgage on this 4 Bed Doublewide is $625/Month, on some Family land in the Beautiful Southern Ozarks. ..never would i go back to LA.

My friends dad had 3 tiny houses that he did his self for rentals mine was a old shed it was 14W 24L with a full bathroom with tub single story had heat & AC of course no permits I was there 3 years I loved it wish i was still there they were separated on the property nice and quiet

Yup. I have a homemade solar system my genius wife designed from scratch. We use glass matt deep cycle batteries. I run my refrigerator just fine. I like to yell "ICE from the power of the SUN!!!" Our only bill is 20 bucks per month for water.

Get a mechanical timer light/power switch. That way you never leave your main lights on and run your batteries down when you don't need light.

@@FearlessRambler I do that for my shed which is powered by a 20W solar cell and a 100 AH deep cell battery. The reason for using a mechanical instead of an electronic timer is that as the battery voltage decreases below the design operating voltage of the timer the timer's logic may become unstable. I use a the 100 AH battery in case I want to run some corded power tools like table saws.

Spray foam insulation and double pane windows. I know because i built a tiny mobile cabin out of a shed. You’re also better buying a fridge/freezer cooler like Newair that is built for solar. If you’re doing a mobile build, stay away from drywall. Weight is everything.

I built my own shed and made it into a tiny house for me and I as 52 and yes a woman . It is my get away on my land a little way from my modular house . Insulated with rock wool and nice front porch 16x22 . I just wish I had done a higher roof line for a loft space . I ran electric and water and added a mini fridge and sink. Can tell you those plastic deck boxes don't last mine was lucky it made it 4 years and I live in Southside VA so not exposed to alot of snow .It was protected from summer heat by a pergola I built and in sumer pergola had shade cloth on it . I spent over 200 dollars on that box to store furniture cushions in the winter . Then I built a wood one with feet and waterproofed it

You need a touch of ambience . . . Get one of those large (26"x20.5") oval black tubs from TractorSupply to pour a cement hearth with multi colored pebbles as decoration. Now get a SPARK mini potbelly stove. Now you in the WayBack Machine 😃. Lovely job on your cabin ✅

@lakishadm6587 Thanks so much. I would start with your neighborhood. If you live in an hoa community they have guidelines on how big it can be, color etc. Luckily my neighborhood doesn't have one so that was a bonus. Next you want to figure out the purpose of your space and if you want it to be a standalone unit like a tiny house or just an outfitted shed. If you want to make out a tiny home look for land and price the cost of adding utilities to that area. It can get expensive.

I've read building and zoning codes. Just want a place that I can build solely but most places you have to already have property on it. So it's a little frustrating.

I know everyone supports Lithium Ion, but lead cell car batteries are still a great choice. Less prone to catching fire if they overheat, and will last practically forever as long as they’re recharged often. Just make sure you use car batteries, and not batteries meant for recreational vehicles. Those eventually reach a point where they won’t recharge due to the lack of solids inside.

Great advice on contracting drywall, its tough to do right. I dislike painting as well, but electrical and assembly are my skills. Don't forget you can barter your trades guys.

you went with the exact model I want! I currently have a 12 X 8 shed, and want to upgrade to the 12 X16... and the tall barn model is what I want. nice video! hope the tiny house survives the weather!

It was a nice model, I did extend the loft a few feet. The county allows for a shed up to 200 sqft with a land use permit. I would have gone a little larger if the could have, but this was fine. Have a great day.

The solar worked well for the 12V lights and the 110v, but have not tested out the refrigerator yet, need to change out the batteries in the spring. Thanx for the comment

If you plan to keep the batteries outside then make sure you get a low temperature shutoff on whatever lithium batteries you buy. Some only come with high temp sensors. If you find a battery that doesn't have it, I think you can still set up an external low temp shutoff. Key is that you don't want to be charging a very cold lithium battery. Discharge at low temp is okay though... at least until you reach extreme cold, which I doubt you would have issues with.

thnx for the info, just order four WEIZE 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Lithium Battery, Up to 8000 Cycles, Built-in Smart BMS so I can run the refrigerator, We don't use this tiny home in the winter. Have a great day

I’d make the stairs have storage for future use…just a thought and yep solar and small wood stove. Also a under the shed/house a floor door to a stash place for emergency food storage too. Great job it looks comfy and warm 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

strongly recommend you put in holes for ventilation for the solar inverter setup, otherwise that thing will cook itself to death within low single digit years

1st time i have come across one of your video's. I liked it, and now you have a new subscriber!! Where abouts in the world are ya? I'll check out your new channel too. I'm putting in a DYI kit shed, but I'm reinforcing the floor, anchoring them in the ground. Puting up concrete blocks that will give me 2 ft of drip edge on the sides and 1 ft in the front and back. Rocks will be put down inside and filled to the top of the concrete blocks. The anchors will go down through that and cemented in. Ill be fixing this thing up almost as good as my sailboat with epoxy floors on both sides. Heck that aint even all the base! I'm going to shut up now, I'm tired!! LOL. ✝️🙏❤🇺🇸⛵👣🍍🤗

Paint the trim before you cut/install it. Easier to do small dabs over nail holes and joints
