All closed-cell insulation materials are expensive. Open-cell (insulation) does NOT provide a vapour barrier. Anyway, I agree 100% doing that sound deadening as if you have ever driven a motorhome or campervan, the noise can be horrendous at times.

Great job guys. Love the thoughts for the roof. I'm 62 yrs old and attempting to convert my red Renault Trafic. Note to self, don't do this in Winter. I put my insulation in using a hair dryer to heat both the insulation and the van wall before sticking! Now waiting for the right temperature for the expanding foam. Glad I'm not the only 1st time dummy out there. 👏👏👏

Hey Emma and Alex, good to see you back . . . . . look at you doing all the work, well done you!!!! A couple of things to remember for sure, is before you put the boards back up . . . . . is the insulation thick enough, check out other van buillds to see what they used, as it does get cold overnight . . . . . some have been using 2" thick foam insulation panels, which is great . . . but you might be lucky with what you have put up already. The other thing is, don`t forget where your electric cables (new ones for appliances you will be using) are going to go, and if you can bury them behind the boards with easy access to any connection points would be brilliant. Air ventilation overnight . . . . . .you have to find some kind of fan, doesn`t need to be expensive, & can be run by a Solar panel strategically placed(check for decibel level also). Will you be be making a fold down Dinette type of configuration? If so the seats you took out would do a job or, make a simple fold Up and down padded arrangement. Finally i seen a good set up on a van once at a campsite before covid, the guy had a VW, with access Ladder on rear door for getting up on the roof, but he had an extension pole attached (clipped together by spring clips) to extend it to 15 feet above the roof of the VW, he had attached a mounting bracking on top to place a 4k Surveillance camera, like you he loves birds and animals, and he could view them from inside on his laptop. the camera type is called a PTZ = Pan, Tilt, Zoom. He said it was the best thing he had done on the van, he also attached a couple of guide ropes, to clip to the top of the roof of the van for extra stability in blustery conditions. Anyway, i talk too much lol, Good luck with the next steps . . .and always think ahead of what you are going to need in some kind of relative order, it will help . . .take care you two . . .much love from Banwell. :)

Hey Chris! We still have another layer of insulation to go before we put the boards back up.. hopefully it should be enough 🙏 but i suppose only time will tell! 😂 Currently in the planning process with the wires etc. I think we're going to go with an exposed conduit, so that buys us a little more planning time for that. Thanks for the info about the camera - we will have to look into that one for sure! Sounds like a great idea! Thanks so much for all the info and tips Chris! It's very much appreciated 👍

Morning Emma and Alex. Im so glad you managed to get that death trap of a van back to them and get your money back. As an ex car body shop worker. Id not have spent the time money and effort on that death trap it should of been sent to a scrap yard but i bet some one has bought it thinking thay will do all the welding on it them selves. It should of been sent to the scrap yard long ago. I love how your into doing all the van build Emma and Alex is off bringing home the bacon to pay for the van build. Looking forward to see the rest of your new van build videos. If your putting solar on the van please will you make a long video about witch solar system you went for and if its better than other systems on the market for van life and the cost of the system if you fit it your self. This is something im very interested in before i go out and spend money on a solar system for my self. Ps as someone who also suffers from long long term depression i no ware your both coming from take care of your selfs. Patrick

Kingfishers like little places to perch right beside or over looking the stream. You can place a few nicely cut sticks and place them in areas that are quiet and clear so you can view them. I suggest a 4ft stick with a little branch * 3 inchs will do on top end , place them into the bank, maybe 50 ft apart. They will use them. Do try it.

Well done 👏😃 hope you continue to enjoy your converting! I have turned 4 vans into campers over the years and my current “camper” is an Iveco daily Luton van conversion. My tip to you is the following.... think long and hard Now, where you would like to have 12volt & 240v wires situated for sockets, chargers and switches, BEFORE you reinstall your plywood. It’s so much easier to route and hide cables at this stage 😁 Look forward to your next video 😃👍
@TravelBeans3 жыл бұрын
Great tip, thank you!!

@@TravelBeans What I normally do is draw out the camper van layout on paper. This means I’ll have already measured up roughly what size everything should be an know where I want things to go ie bed, cupboards, drawers etc. I then improve on my design as I start to build into the van. Do remember to leave space for a portable potti.... you may not intend perhaps to use it, but you’ll sure be glad you’ve got one should you be caught short 😁

So Happy you are doing a pop-top! I knew it would be a great for your travels if you did it. I also discovered someone has an Instagram named sausagebirds. Hang in there Emma, I think you're doing a great job. I don't know where you two are from, I can't place your accents but I don't think you are northerners! You both went to Madrid for the CL final, you, somewhere, put up a Pic on the screen of VVD and you have a red van. Obviously there is some connection with Liverpool FC here. Assuming you still have no name for the V-dub, my suggestion would therefore be something connected with The Reds... the Kop Kamper or the Red Rover, etc. Or maybe, how about just "Birdy", celebrating Alex's love of birds, the first sighting of a Kingfisher, the wandering Peacock in the driveway during the bed build, and of course, my love of Robin Redbreasts. Only just found your channel this evening and have binge watched 7 episodes so far and loving it all. Fantastic Aquarien couple, well worth Subbing and clicking that dingdong for. Greets from an expat in 🇨🇭, and an avid LFC fan, YNWA Steve.
