Through blood or word, the courier convinces Ulysses of the error of his ways using his own words concerning his meeting with the Think Tank in the Big MT.

I kind of wish that you could tie it into the the saying, “those who forget history are doomed to repeat it”. You have forgotten your history and are repeating the acts that destroyed the divide. Ulysses may not have forgotten his history, but he is repeating the destruction of the divide all the same, just changing the location. You would think that anyone who experienced such a tragedy would try to prevent it from reoccurring in the future, from unleashing the same amount of pain on an untold number of people, from possibly preventing a new nation from being born. I know he does it because he believes that the NCR will fail, has already failed, but in the end it all comes down to revenge. “An eye for an eye makes the world go blind” and adding nukes to that doesn’t help.
@PapitoQinn
@PapitoQinn 2 жыл бұрын
But also the idea that if he wipes the slate clean again, like the bombs did back in 2077, that might be the key to a new Divide from forming again. And this time hopefully without the accidental or intentional boom.

@@PapitoQinn but he doesn’t plan to wipe the slate clean, just to kill a nation… he plans that the legion will eat itself but he has no way of knowing that. In effect he is only repeating your mistakes.

@@doughboywhine He doesn't know with a 100% certainty, no. But history has shown that a culture built on war eventually breaks and consumes itself. Genghis Khan's Mongolians for example. A culture built on capitalism, like the NCR, falls apart when the money stops flowing. So his destroys the long 95.
@radicalfishstickstm8563
@radicalfishstickstm8563 Ай бұрын
@@PapitoQinn calling the NCR a culture founded on capitalism is reductive. President Tandi from Fallout 2 and Kimball from New Vegas represent two different interpretations of democracy; both flawed sure but neither can be reduced to mere capitalism. Tandi sees capitalism as an engine of prosperity but makes an effort to restrain it by regulating the ranch barons and spending the tax revenue on public projects. Kimball sees capitalism as an engine for colonialist expansion and removes prior regulations to receive their full support.
@Clarkamadorian
@Clarkamadorian Ай бұрын
@@radicalfishstickstm8563I don’t got much for this conversation, but I just wanna add an idea I’ve heard before. What if there was a way we could like, collectively own the natural world since nobody made it, but for the individual to gain the value they’ve created from free trade? You know, the Georgist argument, I guess. The land was made by nobody, so we should all own it equally. For the products and services we create, we can extract the value created by the natural world like oil and such, and leave out a filtered value created solely by the actual work put in. No monopolies that exploit the natural world, just good honest competition. After all, competition is what’s supposed to make capitalism work good in the first place. Without it, it erodes, and turns into a fascist machine that makes the worker a cog, a tool. Competition is what gives us good jobs, and good products and services. Maybe I am looking at all of this the wrong way, but I don’t think colonialism and conquering things are inherently capitalist. Those things happen when the state wants more stuff, right? Not necessarily when the honest worker wants more stuff. There are arms dealers and merchants of death who want war, sure, but our job then is to make their profession unprofitable, and make sure their money can’t get into any politicians pocket. Easier said than done, I guess. I dunno. I just feel like the NCR is the closest thing to any functional system out there. I feel like with the right tweaks, it could be good and sustainable. I guess I’d still like to learn about the divide, though. About what it’s system is like.

I've always loved the meta-story elements tied to Ulysses's views of the Courier. He almost knows that you, the player, will follow him into the Divide on curiosity alone. Because you MUST experience the content in the Divide, because it's part of the game. And yet, he fails to realize that he has done the exact same thing, leaving behind echoes wherever he interacts with people. He's doing the exact same thing that he hates you for.

I both like and hate this view of speech. Not highlighted 100% option, but actually choosing what can convince person. But fuck, when it's Ulysses? The guy is fucked up, I doubt anyone could pick the right consequence of answer without save scumming. And now I have doubts it can be the other way.

Nah these conversation dialogues are quite onvious if you listen to the things ulysses says in the tapes. For instance why would ulysses say that question to not die? Hes not a particularly cowardly individual and he's far too phillosphical to be primarily concerned with his wellbeing.
@joby5838
@joby5838 2 ай бұрын
@@mappingshaman5280 I mean, for example choice after "you wanted to remind them who they are" is already quite confusing, because option with "nukes are useless" seems competent, but actually right one is "if you think divide nuke was unjust then fair ig", which even sounds kinda weird. Next two one are fair enough though, appealeaing to Ulysses with symbol stuff makes sense. Okay, I admit that it's not as confusing as I thought it is, but probably only viable on consecutive playthroughs.

It's the best feeling having a character acknowledging yours about being in the Big MT or in Sierra madre or Zion, it just feels different you know, like the dlcs literally being part of the story and not different places like Fallout 3 does it, that's why Fallout New Vegas is the best fallout game ever because it remains true to it's routes, it's the true sequel of Fallout 1 and 2.

I still remember my first time playing this dlc my character had already taken New Vegas (yes man ending Vegas was mine) so I talked Ulysses down told him we're not going to cause any more casualties of innocent civilians so we fought off the marked men together Ulysses then he told me to use the terminal to disarm the nukes That's when it hit me that to truly protect the innocent people of the Mojave I would have to shield them from not only the savagery of the legion but also the ruthless nature of the NCR Ulysses could only watch for what must have like felt like hours as I stood in front of that terminal with this argument raging in my head even after telling him that more people would die today but in the end he could only watch in horror and confusion as this man who just told him killing is wrong bro altered the terminal and fired at both the NCR and Ceasars legion TLDR I talk Ulysses down then nuked both the NCR and the legion to keep Vegas for myself And that's about all I can remember from that dlc
