Ahhh - country like it was meant to be. I think Conway's voice improved as time went on. Maybe this was an early recording. He was a big hit on Dick Clark's American Bandstand, and reminded me of Elvis in those days. I would come home from school, and Mom would always have Dick Clark's show on. Loretta made this perfect.

They were the best of friends. Loretta loved Conway, but not "in love with him." Even Doo, her husband loved Conway. They did great music together. My Mom always wished/wanted them to be in Love with each other. She'd buy those rag magazines if Conway & Loretta was in them. I'd say, "Mom, You know that's not true." She'd say, "l know, but i wish it was." Lol. Miss Conway, my Mom & this kind of music...real Country that tells a story.

They had a wonderful friendship & mutual respect for each professionally. They never had an affair with each, but took it all the way to the bank making records that spoke to others on the subject.

These two really complimented each other. They were best friends. This was written in the early 50s. It was always rumored that they we sleeping together. Honestly I don't think Loretta would do that

A thousand percent true. They were soul mates in singing just like Mr. Roger's and Ms. Parton were.

As much as I love this version, I think I prefer (switching to a whisper voice) the version done by John Prine and Patty Loveless. Its on KZfaq...at least give it a listen before you grab your pitchforks and bitumen. :-)

YES Slip away and slip around were cheating phrases. One rock song is noted for it; The Gregg Allman Band - Slip Away. Oh, Clarence Carter was the original artist.

Thanks, Don! My Mom used to play a series of Loretta Lynn LP's on Saturday afternoon as she did the weekly ironing; then add to that the Wilburn Brothers Show and the Porter Wagoner Show and my mind was engrained with the classic country music genre. Thanks for the memories! Side note: It is out of your normal listener's wheelhouse, but give a listen to Linda Ronstadt and Mariachi Vargas - La Charreada kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJObZ8h2uNq1kWQ.html

When George Jones wanted to insult a fellow country singer, he compared his antagonist to Conway Twitty. His singing isn’t for everyone. Compare this song to Sweet Thang, a duet Lynn made with Ernest Tubb.
