I ran it through the Google machine and apparently they're chewy for several reasons, but the ingredient is high amount of brown sugar. The molasses in the brown sugar might be having a laxative effect. Wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get diarrhea in addition to the farting you mentioned.

Your answer on how they stay chewy: The light brown sugar makes the cookies more chewy and moist. The molasses in the light brown sugar adds moisture to the cookie dough

Great job Geoff, that was a ton of sugar and calories. I love these chewy chips ahoy, so simple and tasty. But they definitely get old quick. Id be sick of them after one package lol. Maybe if there's a future attempt at this you could mix up the flavors to somewhat keep things interesting but either way its a rough one.

Yes, they are smaller then when you were a kid and that family size package you have now was regular size 11 months ago. I think they put oil and or extra fat in the recipe to keep them moist.

I would imagine the chocolate is more of a 'mockolate' - a cheaper chemical heavy blend. Could be more like almond bark with more chocolate flavor. Even good baking chips have a different make-up from that of chocolate candy bars. I can only imagine, because I've seen these puppies as low as $1.50 - $1.79 a bag. Good work putting away those gummy rascals. 😆

How do Chips Ahoy Chewy cookies stay chewy? Chilling your cookie dough for an hour (or even overnight) could be your new secret to the best chocolate chip cookies. By chilling the dough, you help control the spread of the cookie. The less the cookie spreads, the chewier it is.

I have a buddy who works at Pepsi and he said there is an aluminum and plastic shortage or they're not getting it fast enough. that's why store are running out of 12 packs and gas station coolers are pretty much empty at all times.

i wonder if throwing them in the oven makes them better or worse in this case? they are already chewy so cant imagine it helps any.
