We went out to break the 2.5 Litre Billy can in. Chicken Curry was the No. 1 choice for the first use. To the woods it was.

Here's a thought for a one pot meal using the Billy. Saute the onions, chicken and spices. Then add the dry rice to the pot and toast the rice for a minute or two. Now add two parts water to one part rice and simmer for twenty minutes. Lastly add the sauce and let it heat through for a couple of minutes. One pot curry and rice! Try brown rice also. It toasts very nicely and has more nutrition than white rice. Great channel BTW. I just subscibed. Cheers from the States!

The Billy can and the Omnia oven are great with the Trangia system. Add a GSI Outdoors Hauplite pressure cooker and you're set all around. All the best.

The Trangiasystem looks like it's really useful. One thing I consider to be slightly bad is when one lets the metal scrape metal when cooking, it can cause tiny bits of not very digestible metal to go into the food. Use a wooden spoon so the safe ( non toxic ) wood particles will just be fibre.

You might want to have a look at a Dutch oven. They aren't so light, but very good and versatile for car camping and for longer stays (or when there are lots of people).

I love Dutch ovens but you are right about the weight. I have cast iron pans, they don't see much use due to the weight.

Would it not make more sense to hang the Billy over your mates fire with a tripod after getting it going on the stove then it frees up your stove for your rice, that's how I plan to used mine anyway. I'd suggest seasoning any raw cookware too after all you'd do it to carbon steel/cast iron so why shouldn't you with stainless and aluminium?

Hi Paul. I have a Trangia 25 and I am looking for a slightly bigger pot for car camping. However the 4.5l is too big. Is it possible to use the 27 2.5l billy pot on the Trangia 25. Will it fit in the metal arms in the rise position? Storing the pot separately is not a problem. I thank you in advance for your answer. Cheers, John

halo Paul, I got trouble in choosing between 25 and 27 series. which one would you recommend for two people camping? We usually have hot-pot or SabuSabu during camping, would the 27 handle the work nicely? it is so nice to watch your cooking out there! Cheers mate.
