Oh, so, by the way: The “locked room” was full of non-perishable foods. Basically, it’s showing us that the MC killed and ate everyone for fun.

This DLC confirms the previous theory that this story was an interpretation of Baba Yaga, the bone fence was initial proof but Mariahs answer to the question, 75% Free will and 65% Compulsion is, if I recall correctly, the EXACT phrase needed for Baba Yaga to let you go.

I love how Mariah is such a good person, the one time she hurts someone still leads to the best outcome as of yet

The Mariah ending was likely made as a request since her role in the original story was rather short lived.

54:10 Okay but can we talk a bit about this room? This is a food storage. A WELL-STOCKED food storage. Nothing seems dirty or spoiled at all, it's actually quite organized, considering the owner is supposedly a very lazy person. The MC clearly lives by themselves (or by *herself*? The Portuguese-speaking ghost under the sink used the female pronoun and since no one but the MC should be around the cabin who else would they be talking about?) so this is actually a fair amount of food for one person. With some management, it also probably could, say, keep some extra four people for a while. Now, here's the thing. This is years before the Ukrainian quartet comes by, so this image might not mean much because we don't know the state of the room or if the MC still keeps it stocked, but there's still a faint possiblity that, during the main events of Cooking Companions, THERE ACTUALLY WAS FOOD IN THE CABIN. Coming to think of it, during the stairway descent before Karin's fight, Mariah tries to convince the MC that there are "lots of loaves of bread" down there... what if she wasn't lying? It might be a bit of a stretch, and there are some cracks in this, of course; like, if there was food, then wouldn't Karin have found it while she was locked in the basement? But then again, she was not on her right mind and seemed to be transfixed by the meat only. I mean, we clearly see that the storage is full of (seemingly good) proper food, so the MC has no good reason to be starving. And yet they still eat from all of the Chompettes anyway.

I do have to say your pronunciation of Zakopane and Bolek is pretty good. Also, fun fact. Burning/drowning of Marzanna is to welcome spring by "killing" winter/death (Marzanna). We make an effigy and then burn/drown it. It's mostly done by children in kindergarten/primary school tho, at least in Poland.

If you actually look more closely Ryna has an angry look on their face while the others try to run. I think this is a clever way of putting that while the other Chompettes (besides Potato) are willing to play nice to the protagonist in hopes of them being set free Raspberry is the one who isn't afraid of calling the player out in their own anger. So my WIP theory; -MC, who I think they've pretty much confirmed to be the Baba Yaga from the Mariah ending (or at least embodying them), is the OG butcher of Zacopane. Potato feels very much like a fanboy/wannabe apprentice, and in my mind, he's undoubtedly the one who wrote those notes (remember he dropped out of school at a young age to work as a butcher). -The characters mention at several points that they feel like they're 'being watched'; I think that both MC and Potato are stalking them, but we never 'see' MC, only Potato. I think MC is lurking in the shadows, while Potato is trying to prove himself to MC by actively luring people away, letting people see his face and follow him into the forest. -I think Raziel came across MC's cabin, met MC, and answered their question *correctly*. I think MC takes the rules of the Baba Yaga super seriously, and Raziel answering correctly meant that he would be spared from death at Baba Yaga's hands. However, this meant that Raziel knew what MC was, and couldn't be allowed to go free, hence why he ended up in a cage in the basement. I do think that MC grew attached to Raziel, in their own fucked up way, and would let Raziel out of the cage occassionally for 'meals' while they were there. -Meanwhile, our boi Potato, however, upon seeing Raziel, realises that he has an opportunity to lure in four extra children for his senpai MC. Judging from his dialogue about MC 'hesitating' or 'trying to fatten up Raziel', I don't believe Potato knew about the Baba Yaga rules and misunderstood why MC was keeping Raziel alive. From there, I think Potato killed Raziel and made it look like he escaped from the cabin, which probably spurred MC into leaving the cabin in order to try track Raziel down themselves. Meanwhile, Potato lured the Chompettes to the cabin and killed them in the basement, just like we saw in the playthrough. This was Potato's magnum opus and ultimate display of devotion to MC. -MC eventually returns to the cabin, and sees not only Potato's carnage, but also Cornbread. Upon realising that Potato killed Raziel, MC murders Potato in response. While the Chompettes are materialising, MC spends their time with Cornbread, leaving the Chompettes and Potato alone for months at a time. Eventually, MC releases Cornbread/Raziel from the cabin; whether it's due to legitimate affection for them or because they answered the first question correctly is up to the viewer. MC does not give Potato or the Chompettes the same mercy, however, and keeps them in the cabin for MC's amusement. ____________________ Some extra questions/theories I've been considering; - The etholyne + sulphuric dichloride recipe results in making Mustard Gas. Who wants to make mustard gas and why? - I wonder if Potato's name is "Ivan" from the final letter, and Potato is a pawn in this fewd between MC and whoever the author of this letter is?

The old man dancing because of chocolate is most likely a reference to Charlie and the chocolate factory

Here’s the translation to the dialogue in the kitchen (it’s in Portuguese): “Has she already left the cabin? No? You’re in grave danger: hurry out of this cursed place and NEVER come back. She took me and separated me from my parents. (this part is written in a weird way but I think this is what they meant) Across the ocean… and brought me here. She is gonna eat all of you: RUN. GET OUT.” Ryna speaks. “Hahaha… and I don’t speak Polish very well… I should stop talking! Here: grab this. “ Ryna gets the drawing. “He made a few drawings before he died. Give it to his surviving relatives.” Ryna examines the drawing. “I guess this is goodbye… we’ll probably NEVER cross paths again.”

The messy notes were almost definitely written by Potato since they want the 'secret' from the protag which Potato was originally trying to befriend them for; also, since they call attention to how poorly written they were, it also makes sense that it was Potato since Potato mentions getting pulled from elementary school to help in the butcher's shop. I think the protag killed Potato because they might have viewed Potato as being in the way of their next meal plus an extra, and I don't think the protag actually wanted to mentor Potato. I think the child in the charcoal drawings was Razael and drawn by him given the Chompettes' reactions to it. I think that the protag was grooming Razael to be either the next or another version of them but accidentally or unintentionally killed him (possibly due to the hunger). It helps explain why they seem so fixated on Razael like when they asked Cabbage about him.

Well, this answers the main question I had from the game, which is whether the MC was part of the Chompettes gang or not, and if not why the Chompettes were being friendly with them. I think that the poorly written notes scattered around the cabin were from Potato/The Butcher, and he was bringing victims to the MC in hopes of bribing/befriending them and so learning how to become immortal ("the secret"). Basically aiming to become an "abnormal being" himself. But if that's the case I don't understand why the MC kills him at the end. It seems weird to wipe out your meal ticket. Was he forbidden from entering the basement or something? Seems the MC was holed up down there rather than being in the cabin... could be their "lair" that they don't like people intruding on. Or, given the comment about "people trying to get stronger than you" upsetting the MC, it might be that Potato was close to becoming an abnormal being and the MC killed him to prevent competition.

If I’m correct, the chemistry sheet is a recipe for mustard gas, which explains why you can’t inhale it cause your insides will literally melt

The crazy romance power-couple-destroying-the-world-with-bittersweet-ending-cause-your-partner-isn't-immortal-as-you-are is still my favorite ending. No other one can compare haha.

The letters make me believe that it was Razael's writing, if Potato owns the cabin now he probably kidnapped him to eat him but ended up liking the kid or wanting to make him like him. Even if he failed to become a psycho like Potato wanted he probably liked the boy enough to let his spirit go when he died hence why Cornbread is the only one who has passed over.

Aww, I was hoping to see how Potato die, and who the Protag really is. But the Chompette's backstory is really interesting, and Razael does seem really sus with all those kid drawings and toddler notes.

7:47 potato mentions that he dropped out of elementary school to work as a butcher. he also asks you what your secret is (first game) and you tell him... but you don't tell him your secret until he's potato. he's the one writing those messages. as our apprentice, he brought razael and offered us to him ("ile breeng him heer on sunday"), and he's begging to know what "seekret" we have. the fact that there was non-perishable food in the basement was such a punch in the gut. i'm still reeling over it. i helped deerdev out, so i had some insight, but that hit me like a truck.

Ryna: _”What about that psychopath?”_ Bolek: _”We lost him a few kilometers ago: don’t worry!”_ Manly: _”No you didn’t, I am right here.”_

The added scares are great, but the story is the real meat and potatoes here (pun absolutely intended). I'm quite curious if there's some deeper meaning into Ryna, AKA Strawberry being so calm and why she's got a winter coat in the middle of summer, something unusual enough for the others to comment on it; it's probably nothing but it stood out to me. It was suspected but we know for certain that Cornbread was the first victim. Some pieces of the puzzle are still missing though, most obviously how and why the player character of the main game defeated Potato, who presumably introduced them to cannibalism in the first place, and took over the cabin. As for the Mariah ending, it's a little amusing that her just avoiding the short stick leads to her not only maintaining her sanity long enough to defeat her monstrous host but also go on to start what's basically this world's SCP Foundation. I am absolutely down for that spinoff/sequel.

Honestly wasn't expecting DLC. As a cremator, I can say that you would not be able to tell the difference in the bone shards if they were crushed. Fail on the psychopath's part there.

Finally they added Mariah again, her appearances in the original one is too short.

I just realized at 31:27 was potato actually getting struck down by the character we control. Notice how no one has blood on them yet but have a surprise expression? Everyone probably ran away at first because they were scared because a bigger threat just took down a serial killer and seeing how our character wasn't crazy (yet?) Maybe they trusted him for a little while, with raspberry trusting them the most. This would explain why raspberry never ran away scared when they were human and while as a chompete they were the most aggressive because our characters betrayed their trust the most out of any of the chompetes.

I'm guessing that that Mariah ending was just another dream, or 'nightmare'. The developers even said not to take everything in Nightmare mode so seriously, so it's either hinting that all the things in Nightmare mode was just the protag's hallucinations, or they're not canon in the first place

This Cooking Companion Lore is getting more interesting by the second

For someone that's Polish and was born really close to Zakopane this game is really interesting. When i first heard the characters' names i was quite confused since i've never saw (even polish developers) call one of their characters Bolek or Celina. Ty for playing through this game manly.

Protagonist is such wholesome guy for bring back Mariah. She rewarded him stab wound for all his efforts and willing to tell everyone about it! Such a nice ending to the story

I absolutely adore when Manly gets really into the voice acting for these games. Especially around 22:00 when he starts speaking all the lines in panicky whispers like what the characters are doing.

Celina/Cabbage shielding others is such an emotional moment, and this game is deeper than I thought! Original game made me very depressed, as good psychological horror should, and while dlc isn’t that heavy, it is a good build on the base of the oroginal.

the cabin owner was a spirit called "the baba yaga". if you look up the baba yaga question, the answer mariah gave was correct. he is a spirit passed from each person who kills the last predecessor to it and they learn the "secret" and become the cabin owners with the ability to set free the chompets, its pretty cool look it up

Oh...dear gods, the message at the end from the developer(s) legit made me tear up. "If I can do this, I am sure you can too" and "hope that things are better than yesterday" ...I...legit needed those words today. Thank-you Deer Dream Studios. And thank-you Manly.

It feels like potato was the guy making the notes asking for Secrets, as it's implied they aren't written by a kid and he also asks the MC for secrets later (so likely potato was just illiterate and I can't remember if that's touched upon in the main game). This is just a theory, but the charcoal drawings could be interpreted as either razael or potato, and considering that cabbage has raspberry hide them it may even imply that the MC drew it - overall, the drawings + letters are intended to act as a red herring to the other, but it's hard to define which way. The relationship between razael and the protagonist seems interesting too. Considering the room with the bird cage, we can assume the protagonist was taking care and feeding potato or razael, however it doesn't seems like potato was the one in the room because through letters, if we assume he wrote them, you know he didn't live there and the protagonist has "acted as if he wasn't home" before. For this I will consider that Razael was the kid being taken care of by protag. This explains the chicken bones, those are hundreds of birds being fed to kid Raza and some of them are still relatively fresh, which shows Raza wasn't dead for long. Razael was most likely killed by potato at some point considering the way he told the chompetes to say hi to razael for him. However, this doesn't means that the protagonist WANTED Razael to die, which would explain why the Chompetes try so hard to get the protagonist to free them and act nice to him (raspberry and potato not included), since if they act nice maybe he will free them just like Razael was freed. They probably found out he can be "nice enough" and try to stop him from killing others or at least free them like he did Razael. Although with the way potato talked about the secret and "meeting him"... That leaves the idea that Razael, a fully fledged cannibal now, may be alive (potato says how old is he, not "was") or the protagonist apprentice is someone else entirely and is who we see in the charcoal drawings. EDIT: Although, something I hadn't considered, Potato could be the kid on the drawings and he eventually grew up, since we aren't sure about how long he has known protag and it's ambiguous wheter he met them since he was a kid or as much older; also explains how he knows so much of the protag, but this can be argued is something he could know even if he met the protag when he was older as long as he had enough time. This in turn gives a reason for why he shows illiteracy: the protagonist may have teached him the basics of ABC but didn't help more than that, so Potato can only write what he thinks is the "right way" of spelling the words phonetically. Still puts Razael in a rather weird spot of the story, since a lot of signs point to different endings and relations: - he could be dead and was freed from being a chompette by MC (an act that seems to be rare, considering the rest of the spirits) - he could become a monster like Protag after being teached (if we assume he is the "he" that potato talks about) - protag may have liked him but potato killed him, goes chompette, gets freed because protag likes him.

I love how in the drawer, the leader, Cabbage, is in the far back, the cousins (I think..?) Onion and Bread are far apart, and Raspberry is literally beside Potato who she hates lmao

this is the only horror game that makes me feel deep seated, lasting fear. I don't know what it is about this one, but deer dream studios truly knocked it out of the park!! So incredibly happy that some dlc came out 💕💕

I'm guessing that the protagonist is the child being raised by Potato. Potato always seemed to be putting a lot of effort into caring about the protag, or at least encouraging him to be a psychopathic cannibal, almost as if he knew it was protag's calling. Plus, it's strange that Potato actually wants to involve himself with the protag often, if the protag wasn't affiliated as a close person to him, I wouldn't think he'd even give a thought about the protag. Edit: To add, isn't it strange that we see pictures of a child being _fed_ meat by what seems to be the killer? You would think it'd be the other way around. If the protag was the kid, it could explain why he was a cannibal in the first place.

49:28 by the way, ethylene mixed with sulfur dichloride makes *mustard gas* and causes pretty bad blisters to form on your skin as well as some pretty mild swelling and rashes. it’s an irritant but when you inhale is when the real problem begins.

cooking companions *has* to be my absolute favorite horror game, I love its cutesy art style that can quickly turn into something horrific. It’s the perfect mix of being scary enough to scare me but not keep me up at night, which is very important. The lore is super interesting to me and I’m genuinely invested in all of these characters.

I find really interesting how each of the new character's names relates to their respective Chompette. Celine -> Cabbage Oleg -> Onion And so on. I'm curious if that means Psychopath -> Potato?

This was one of the games I actively paused the video to go and buy and play through myself before finishing the watch. Didn't realize the DLC was out so soon (And free) can't wait to absolutely certainly not eat any of my friends and experience a healthy cabin life

That's actually a cool take on dlc, that changes in a prequel can give you different endings in the main game. Usually it's just a foregone conclusion. Being able to change things in any way is interesting.

Can’t wait for mat pat to put out his updated lore video with the dlc out now! Speaking of it sounds like potato wanted to become the new cabin owner possessed by the Baba Yaga spirit, which is why he kept asking about “teaching me the secret” but obviously was ultimately killed by the cabin owner.

I think the we the player was the one teaching the killer how to kill and be cannibal. But he went in the cabin to see that the killer was gonna kill the kids. So we the player killed him because he was breaking our one rule.

I would totally suggest playing “I’m Scared” the game is pretty meta and you quite literally have to go through files and fake achievements just to beat the game. It’s on steam and they added more to it a long while ago so I suggest just beating the whole game in a video. Would probably take about 20-30 minutes.

Did anybody catch the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" reference at 46:57? Grandpa being sick? Mom brings home chocolate and he jumps out of bed and dances? "I got a golden ticket!"

I was just checking out the devs' twitter and my first thought was when was Manly going to upload his playthrough of it, then as soon as I opened KZfaq this video showed up lol You always have perfect timing Manly!

SPOILERS: . . . . . . . . - I feel silly for not realizing this earlier but... the chicken bone in the bottom of the bedroom... chicken legs on the bottom of Baba Yaga's Hut. - Mariah's ghost showing up after her "Good End" makes me think that yeaaahhh this isn't the true end. This is wishful thinking. - It's interesting how the Baba Yaga protag doesn't seemingly remember parts of the hut. Not knowing how scratches got in the tub, wondering why there aren't towels under the sink... - I might be able to decide fully if I rewatch the main game, but we're either the copycat or the actual butcher. We could've been the butcher, and Potato was the copycat (and sent us those letters trying to learn our secret - which now that I think about it makes a lot of sense considering in the main game Potato asks for our secret multiple times iirc?) - I feel both satisfied and unsatisfied here, I would've loved a bit more meat (heh) on these bones. But I understand it's hard to balance answers and mystery. - Also why does the title music say "don't trust that onion"? I thought this DLC might clear it up but other than it being some kinda injoke with the Chompettes it doesn't seem to play any role. Our protag may be a horrific cannibal and fucked up person, but can you blame a Baba Yaga doin what a Baga Yaga does? They need to EAT. /s

She convinces everyone to go to the cabin and stay overnight *with a literal murderer chasing them* and forces you to give up your weapon AND she leads everyone into the friggin BASEMENT.
