Cooking Dinner With Sri Lankan Family | Colombo. In this Sri Lanka travel vlog I am cooking dinner with the Sri Lankan family who runs the homestay in Colombo (link below) I stayed in. We cooked an amazing Sri Lanka dinner using all ingredients that came from their garden. We made some chicken curry, sambol, stuffed capsicum, and Sri Lankan lentil dal. This was an authentic homemade Sri Lankan dinner and it was so delicious. It was an amazing experience cooking dinner with a Sri Lankan family in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Who am I?
A man from the USA trying to discover the world one place at a time, while sharing the experiences through my lens. I like traveling to places that are usually not first on most people’s itinerary and showing everyone that these places are worth the journey. I want to experience all the countries I visit as a member of the society but at the same time learn about the culture, food and beautiful people. Growth is not achievable without leaving your comfort zone, so just do it!

When he said "Beatles", he meant betel leaves. many Sri Lankans still eat betel leaves as a habit. So it was a tradition to give a glass of water before meals to cleanse their mouth

If you want to get the correct taste of Srilankan rice & curry , never mix & eat with a spoon. Whether you like it or not, you have to use your hand. mix curries in equal portion with rice using your fingers.Papadam is supposed to eat while eating a portion of mixed rice .

Hmmm. Maybe he prefers using a spoon cos his roots are definitely indian or Pakistani and in their tradition they are very familiar with using their fingers whilst eating 😊

@@myertravelsyes you can eat just a little bit of each individual dish to get the taste, but in Sri Lanka we don't eat dishes individually. We always mix and eat because the mix of different flavours tastes the best.

@@myertravelsactually we mix the begs with rice to balance the spicyness. That’s why we put so much spice in curries because those are expected to mix with rice.

Very nice vlog to be out in uncles garden and helping aunty prepare the meal. Looked so delicious, yum. The table was dressed so beautiful with Sri lankan food. Yes, you get the full flavour, taste when picked straight from the garden which us Westeners could learn from your vlog. As always Myer thank you.

Hey Myer, that thing which is "like an Orange" is an original version of the modern day Orange. it's actually called Narang (pronounced Naa-raan-gh) which is a variant from a fruit originated in India called Naranjilla. This fruit was taken to the Europe and western world by travellers and through selective harvesting made in to a bigger, sweeter-tasting fruit. With time and region it was harvested and consumed the name of the fruit went from Naranjilla > Naranji >Narang > Aranghi> Oranghi and now we call it Orange.
