I installed a 12 volt blender motor on the broken drill machine.
It's not as strong and fast as it used to be, but it can be used in small jobs.
You could also use 12v battery instead of adapter.

Yes. My guess is that a good clean with contact cleaner and new brushes would have the motor run pretty much like new. The worn out bearings and absence of grease is a completely different story...

In this case the armature and/or field coil was probably burnt and useless. This is a good Mc Gyver if you are far a way from a store / stores are closed / urgent job and if you have a DC motor handy which can fit into the housing nicely.

This perfectly demonstrates that just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should do it. I'd imagine after all the parts, the solder, the electrics and all the time and hassle of drilling bits out, cutting bits off, then all the worry that its going to electricute someone or blow up at some point, it may just have been easier to buy a new one.

You can also run directly on rechargeable batteries. How much torque does it provide? You can also test it on bricks as well. If the old rotor is still good, you could have simply removed the stator and fit strong magnets on both sides of the rotor in the casing. It would save much work. Do cutting and no drilling to fit dc motor.

My feelings exactly, I'm fortunate to have several high end tools, meaning too expensive, but knowing how to repair anything is priceless. I haven't always been able to just walk into a store and throw money at the cash register in order to always buy the best tool in stock, but had always bought the best I could with what money I had In My Pocket, which fortunately have lasted for fifty plus years. And now that I do have several of those upper-end tools I still tend to use my older corded tools just for old times sake.

The grinder guard gets into the way of a lot of cutting application such as cutting , sanding granite. Just make sure your body is not in the same plane as the disc. If the disc ever broke, pieces will miss your body. However, I have NEVER seen a disc broken when in use for almost 20 yrs using the grinder. I am still careful though.

So here I am, sleeping overnight with my German Shepherd in his doghouse because I pirated the electric motor from the wife's blender, ha ha. Interesting video though and I did appreciate learning that other "cans" could be used instead of the stock, usually more expensive motors, and could easily drop-in instead of having to order one from DeWalt, Minneapolis, or Makita, etc. I think a lot of people missed the point that items such as this can easily be repaired instead of tossing them in the trash. I currently have (2) drill guns by Hyper Tuff from Walmart ($18.00), one extra just because of the price which are fine for home use, plus I got an extra battery and charger in the deal. At the same time I also have DeWalt, Makita, and Ryobi cordless drills and screw guns as well as several other corded drills, (for the last 50years) and have been fortunate they still function as well today as when I first purchased them. but the thing I'm getting to is It is still nice to know how to repair items such as this without having to buy a new one. And what I came away with was how to integrate a new motor to the mechanics of an inoperable unit, so Thank You for sharing.

Forgot to say I would have used a couple of stainless steel hose clamps instead of the plastic ties since they will not keep the outer casing from eventually twisting.

Do you really think those zip ties are going to keep the new motor from spinning in the drill case when the drill bit has a lot of pressure on it, or it's stopped by a piece of metal you're selling through?

Hmmm, creo que mejor y más barato hubiese sido que reemplaces los carbones por unos nuevos, y así no disminuías la capacidad del torque.

Basically, you take out the big motor and put a smaller motor in. But was the big motor so impossible to repair?

Changing the brushes would have been my first move. Worn down to nearly nothing and not making full contact. If that fails, throw away. Not worth the time.

Power tools are in the group were the saying "they don't make them like they used to" is very true. Tools used to be made to last twenty of even fifty years. Most of the junk made today is designed to only last until the return period ends. You are better off fixing simple things in old higher quality then buying some of the new junk tools. That motor could have been cleaned up with plastic safe electrical contact cleaner, and the brushes replaced for pennies. Replacing carbon brushes in motors used to be something everyone knew how to do. @4:51 You ignored the missing insulation on the power cord, when you could have fixed that in another minute or two with the soldering iron. It was fixable before, now it's junk too.

Why do you folks think that everyone lives in the US or some other developed country? Are there Walmarts after the last stop garages around the world? I have been in places where this would be a welcome fix. A broken blender with a working motor may be found in some neighbor's kitchen but nowhere to buy brushes or any other part of a drill. The main reason for these videos is not to repair the tool or equipment you see but to share an idea of how such repairs could be done. Give thanks that you were born in a country where Walmarts and dollars are plentiful. Comments always tell a lot about a persons's intellect.

@@CG-cx9fv if you can't get simple replacement parts there is a good chance you won't be on the internet either . Somewhere the tool was bought , somewhere there would be replacement parts . Go buy a new one if you can't get parts . Single speed, corded drill - 12-14 bucks new

@satanbane 3 жыл бұрын
That probably won't work, the drill probably needs more current than a laptop adaptor can produce. Actually, was this even a 12V motor? Looks more like AC->DC conversion without step-down, i.e., 265VDC or some such.

If you had just put the whole thing in the microwave on 70% power for 20 mins, it resets the brushes and the insulation on the power cord will flow to join up again
