Yes, I played bora bora and then toma using what’s called oro oro where there would be the same rhythm but offset amongst the different Toere players :) this creates a stream of constant notes but they have a cool flavour of the different accent patterns.

As an ex-percussionist, I think it's going unrecognized how insanely good this guy is. Every one of those instruments is actually really difficult to play to that level, and they are all specialized. This guy can do this on all of them... damn edit: the kashakas may be the most difficult instrument there
@JoePorterPercussion
@JoePorterPercussion 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It does take a lot of time to learn these instruments because it’s both learning technique and the musical language of the instrument. Each instrument has its own vocabulary of phrases, rhythms and traditions. When you learn instruments from around the world there is also a lot of culture and purpose to each instrument. I’ve been fascinated with that and it’s the reason for trying many different instruments out. The learning usually goes in waves, sometimes a big wave of one instrument and then I don’t play it for awhile but then another wave comes and I’m back at it. Over time you get many waves and then the knowledge/ability sticks better but it still takes time to get the muscle control and finesse back! All the best!

Hi Joe...!!! First of all, i want to to tell you you are an amazing percussionist, not only for playing all this instruments but for capturing the original feeling to play them, however, i`d like to point a tip in the Cajon, the original instrument is from peru as you show, but the original peruvian cajon doesn`t have strings or snares inside, the one you play in the video is the spanish version, which is the cajon flamenco, that is a cajon developed in spain for Ruben Dantas who used to be the percussionist for Paco De Lucia in the seventies and eighties and by that time this instrument became part of the flamenco music and this was the intrument that became popular worlwide, again, congrats for your great job and talent...

The skill shown here in every instrument is insanely good. The amount of time, skill, and dedication needed to learn so many percussion instruments from so many cultures is beyond incredible. It’s honestly impressive how much one can be enlightened by music let alone percussion. There are many peoples with so many stories to tell through their instruments. An example that I can relate to is when I listen to a cuatro played along side maracas identical to the ones in the video. These instruments remind me of my home and Venezuela, sorrow and joy are solemnly felt together.

It’s very impressive that you managed to master each niche instruments playing style, write a small groove for each demonstrating that skill, then memorize and play all of them consecutively. Well done. Literally every single one of these have vastly different methods of playing and the music being played on these instruments vary, plus all of these are very difficult to play in general.

There's a small issue with the cajón, the one you are using is Cajón Flamenco, that has a A guitar string inside that vibrates, and that is from Spain (based on Peruvian cajón). The original Peruvian cajón doesn't have the string and sounds different. Apart from that, amazing video!
