I'm a 58 year old woman and this stuff makes me wish I could start life again and have learned to do what you can do. And that's quite apart from video editing! Practical skills are amazing. We should teach all our children a level of craftsmanship in one or other field imo.

Watch lots of videos and take some classes in the next 2 years. When you turn 60, you'll be ready to start your own restorations. After 20 years of restoring stuff, you retire at 80 and live the golden years in peace.

There is ZERO reason you can’t learn to do this. If you’re worried about the tools needed, I’m sure someone, somewhere, would let you apprentice with them to learn to use them.

I kinda want to see you use epoxy to stabilize some worm-ridden wood like this had, so you can use the original pieces. That being said, that walnut is absolutely gorgeous.
@stask85

You can use epoxy to reszore cracks and holes. Sometimes you can even "glue" the wood with epoxy, when its broken. But this pieces were totaly destroyed by age and worms. As you see the wood is absolutely soft and more like a dry sponge, so even when you cover it up in epoxy in the end you will be able to break it like a dry cookie

True Renegade. many people said that when I restored the coffee grinder and i changed the wood. I thought to do this now but if I do it with epoxy,then the wood will be crackable very easy.

@@stask85 Well, stabilizing it is more than just covering the wood in 2-part epoxy. It would require a vacuum chamber to remove any air and proper stabilizing epoxy, not the normal 2-part. Done right, it would ensure that what's left is basically a slab of epoxy with with the "wood" doing nothing more than being decorative. It shouldn't crack or crumble once stabilized, but it's a lot of work for very little gain, and using new wood is just better. I just think it would look neat.

Just my 2 cents here, I like that you used a different wood, rather than stabilizing and/or epoxy resin coating it. Maybe it's just preference, but I prefer the look of the new wood, and keeping worm hole ridden wood, just because it was possibly original, isn't a restoration from my perspective. Restoration, brings something old back to usefulness. Preservation takes what is old, and maintains it in the condition found, so as to preserve the history. You restored this piece back to usefulness as demonstrated at the end. Though, now you've got me curious... what that bread tastes like! Edit: also, even cured resin, isn't food safe unless it stays at or around room temperature. If you put a hot fresh loaf of bread on the board, with resin on it, it can eventually begin to transfer harmful chemicals to the bread. Or, at least that's what my research over the past 6 years has indicated. I haven't found any legitimate food safe epoxy resins.

You have right. Epoxy resin isn’t food safe. Who tell this,is a lyier. And about the bread with olives..man,you should try. Is the best bread in the world 🥴

"Acetone and Automatic Transmission Fluid" color me intrigued. I've never seen this tactic before, and I watch alot of restoration vids. And seeing how it worked, it was just as good as the expensive ass DETCO-45 we usually use Edit- Those letters and numbers you found are probably just serials and parts labels for the manufacturers Edit 2- 9:02 is that why people are calling you an amateur? I mean it is a "rookie" thing to do but I appreciate you attempting to save at least a little bit of the original parts. As a (non condescendingly as I can be) bit of a tip, precision elements like screw threads and barrel riflings are very vulnerable to rust pitting and usually are unsalvageable, so, expect that more often than not.
