I have had the Royal Blue plugs on my skates for months now and I love them. They are very low profile and take more skill to not eat it with every trick but they are beautiful!

I met a guy on reddit that makes cool 3D print jam plugs that have stopping power. I did get some jammers after I wore those down and they are slick but it was so great to find metric for my roll lines. Like you said, it's for looks and to fill in the hole. I may invest in some NTS roll lines in the future.

Putting "Standard" plugs in a "Metric" socket is not a problem and works great! I have Roll-Line and have done this for years. Because Jam Plugs have plastic threads that are a tiny bit larger than Roll-Line Metric they just go on tight (at first), you are not going to hurt the aluminum on you plates this way. Also because Standard" plugs are bigger you can pick up a 10 buck die off of eBay and tap it metric if you want! But you really don't need it. Because the jam plugs are always plastic, the aluminum just acts as a die, it's not an issue. Almost no one knows about this, but try it, it works great, not an issue at all.

As a machinist, this is completely adequate and true on all points. Shouldn’t have a problem with them backing out either 😉 The only potential problem I could see, would be if you wore down your plugs too low to have anything to grab ahold of to remove it. Nothing a drill couldn’t handle but could be a potential nuisance.

I've started ice skating with hockey skates, and started roller skating too... one thing I notice, is that toe stops could be a "bad habit" for crossover skaters, since hockey skates don't have toe stops... So I'm going full jam plugs and see how that works out to not use toe stops anymore... Next time in ATX, check out Playland Skate's adult night...

I have a question, I'm not sure what it's called but when you get up on your left foot, front right wheel and your right foot, front right wheel. When I try to do it it's almost like my front right wheel stops. Could it be that my wheel isn't able to handel the weight of my body and I need stronger ones?

Which other ones are made for sliding
@DLinton
@DLinton 3 жыл бұрын
I think I need jamplugs for skating at the rink. My boots' toes slide on the wooden surface and I feel the friction. The slider one looks really fat though. I essentially want something that's just barely long enough such that my boots' toes don't drag. How tall is the knob part of the jam plug on the slider? How about the normal colored ones? Did you get the short one? Can you ascertain a difference between the normal colored one and the slider? The sliders are $25, the coloreds are $16, _delrins_ (whatever that means) are $20, swirls are $19. I have no idea what the performance differences are.

Question: The rink is full (like olden times), your cruising backwards, all the gaps close up, you need to hit a double-toe-stop stop before it hits the fan. What do you do w/o any kind of stopper? I can stop lots of ways backwards w/o toe stops, but not on a dime, and not in an "emergency" situation. So I use the tiny stops I took off my old Darts and I screw them all the way up to the top. It's not ideal, but I'm trying to find the best of both worlds.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 3 жыл бұрын
Practice your backward plow stops. Toe stops have their place, but a complete reliance on them highlights a deficiency. You should always be working toward a strong stop on your edges from any position.

@@DeezSkates Thanks DS. I work on my toestopless backwards stops pretty much every time I skate (2 or 3 times a week). But I still don't feel like I can pull off a "no think" hard stop. Maybe it's time to just take 'em off and sink or swim 😀.
@unicyclist0

I swapped a few weeks back. I asked around the rink and a good portion of the people just state in an emergency they are flipping around to face front. Most times this means they can just avoid the situation, but it also puts them in the more practiced stop direction. Other than that. Backwards plow.
@smprather
@smprather 3 жыл бұрын
@Deez Skates Toe stops are gone, plugs are in. Let the chips fall where they may :). Backwards hockey is getting better (in both directions). Looking forward to getting back into the rink to see how it works out. Now if I can just find a vaccine shot...

I think it comes down to the retailers. They’re rubber, and if they aren’t stored well for long periods of time they become brittle. In my experience, any torquing causes them to rip, but I can’t say how long the shop had them or how they were stored before they were sold to me. Bought from a couple different places and had the same experience.

Find the model of the plate itself then look that up and you should get toe stop measurement from the description of that plate. 5/8 is the most common if you want to guess..
