The question regarding the color of police lights is a really good question. As 401 said, it varies from state to state. Some states have Red/White for LE and save blue for fire, some states are blue/white for police with red for fire, and so forth. Not only is a mixture of blue and red pretty a.f., but blue is more visible at night and red is more visible during the day. It’s good to have the combo for safety

The red lights thing... In our patrol cars there's a red overhead light, that's there to preserve your night vision but more importantly your able to see inside your car while oncoming traffic is not in anyway confused by your interior lighting.

Great video, as usual... AND nice upgrade on the Audio! Okay, just a word about audio... And yes, it is better with the new mic'... Just a note to watch your volume and "sensitivity"... The audio's clean and all, so good job so far. BUT there are a lot of people who make the early assumption that "louder is better" and it's worth pointing out that your new mic' actually brought CLEANER sound, not necessarily louder. There's a touch of "echo" at this level, too... It's only a touch, so I wouldn't worry. That's just the acoustic quality in that room... (lolz) In any case, just keep an eye on that, and know that with "software updates" it may need tuning from time to time. One point on the colors of cars... AND I know, you don't "consciously" pay any attention to car colors... A few years back, there was a study on the judges of boxing matches, and with consistency, the fighter in RED got higher performance marks than the Fighter in BLUE... Other colors tended to create statistical trends, as well, brighter colors and sometimes psychologically symbolic colors, (like black for example) on trunks, gloves, and gear (pads) often led to the fighter outperforming his or her opponent in the "points system"... The "experts" reasoned that psychological biases toward colors for hazardous origins probably played a decided "UNconscious" advantage toward the wearer(s) of those colors... I wonder if Police ever get any kind of training (or discussion) on matters around that... It's dubious, so I'm just guessing not. BUT a car's paint-job is often considerably more sophisticated and symbolic than just a color or two, so it's worth pointing out that if something attracts attention (like a bright red, or a flames design) it tends to bear more scrutiny by nature... AND along with more scrutiny, there's just a tendency for more "ticket-worthy" notes on the mind of the officer... Nobody "drives perfectly" even in front of the police... SO more attention drawn might well simply equate to more ticket-worthy offenses NOTICED... as opposed to the vehicles that "blend in better". Thoughts? ;o)

I've only been pulled over once for an illegal u-turn & I remember they dramatically sent about 3 cars, all officers involved were literally standing in the back of my car while they went through my info. 1 of em recognized me from high school.

Here (and many places in Europe) its blue for emergency vehicles. If a cop car is showing red behind you he means for you to pull over. So blue=make way blue+red=pull over.

2:55 I think they meant red lights inside the car. I think it's so cops don't strain their eyes at night and they can easily adjust their vision when they get out. It's also harder for others to see the the police car from outside when there's a red light on rather than a bright white light

My favorite would be a black patrol car with all blue lights... and as far as the "lights on the ground" im thinkin that they mean the "runners" that are on the sides of patrol cars.

Police officers around the province of Québec used to wear camo pants as part of pressure tactics for the negociation of their new working contract and union agreement and all that stuff... it lasted for quite a while, and was highly controversial for most people who didn't really know what was happening... and the media of course.

The Camo pants are part of a protest about their pay, as another comment mentioned. I lived in Quebec last summer and saw this all the time.

Canadian officers wore camo pants as a way to rebel against the department since there were a lot of issues with it at the time. They wore regular camo, pink camo, acu, etc since it was prohibited by the department. There is an article somewhere out there...

How do you like it when citizens refuse to answer questions when they've been detained for dubious reasons?

I remember when I got pulled over on a very dark side road and was blinded when the light turned on. Didn't get a ticket but didn't drive until the burn image of the lights finally went away 5 minutes after the stop lol

In Michigan, only Law Enforcement can have blue lights. FireTrucks and Ambulances only have Red, White & amber. Construction, department of transportation, security can only have amber.

In Serbia, blue and red light are reserved for escort of the highest rank. For example if president of another country would come in visit, there will be police car with blue and red light in front of it. Regular police car only have blue lights.

Here is one for ya, I've noticed lately that pretty much all cops, when on a traffic stop, turn their wheels to the left (to the road). Why is that? I was always taught to turn the wheel to the curb/ side of road so that if you get hit you don't get shoved into traffic.

I'm Canadian. Sûreté du Québec officers are unionized and were complaining about the lack of progress on their collective bargaining agreement. They wore camo pants as a protest, since police are obviously not allowed to strike.

I >think< the red lights on floor question is about road flares. (5 mins in google, that was only thing I could find referenced). Here in GA I don't see it, but when living in WI and IN I saw cops using red circular lights instead of cones or flares. My guess is the asker is wondering what the flares are for, which the reason should be obvious. To highlight an accident or crime scene, so passerby's don't accidentally drive over evidence, or hit someone. (Or for non road location, so no one stumbles in and contaminates the scene).

As a Quebecer I can answer the camo pants question! The police were on strike for reasons that are too long for this comment, but the reason that they were wearing camo pants is because they had to stay in uniform (and couldn't not work) by law and the camo pants were a loophole in the dress code, ie they could wear whatever kind of pants they want, so that was their demonstration of being on strike. Ambulance drivers did the same thing here as well as putting stickers on their ambulances

Great audio! Why do police seem to pull people over for simple violations and block the lane of traffic instead of asking the person to pull into a close parking lot or side street to finish the ticket? Of course, after confirming it is safe to do so. Thanks for your videos!!

To answer the question at 2:55 - It's likely the person is asking why do cop cars have red lights on the interior. The color red has a longer spectral wavelength, so it won't dilate your pupils as much when your eyes are exposed to it. That way you can still see at night, while preserving your night vision. This makes sense for a cop operating inside a darkened car at night. As long as any exterior lights, regardless of color, aren't shining directly into his face, he will still have a measure of night vision. This is also likely why cops blind anyone they pull over by angling the spotlight of their car so it shines in your face. It provides a tactical advantage.

Cops like donuts because way back in the day those were the only spots open in the really early morning hours cooking the pastries, and would use their phone before radios and cell phones. So it became a sort of hangout spot for leos.

Well, officer, I lived in Mountlake Terrace, just North of Seattle for 22 years. I don't know how many times I got pulled over in my wife's Geo. Every month or so for quite a while Car was unmodified, but ended up with a crunched up front bumper & a black hood... but I didn't drove like a fool My wife never got pulled over; just me And how many times did I get pulled over driving other stuff in two decades? Once or maybe twice.

Hey Officer401, I am an American citizen currently going to school in Canada for a Law Enforcement Studies diploma. After I graduate next Summer I was planning on moving back to the US to pursue a career in policing closer to my family. How well do you think a Canadian diploma would transfer over to US departments when a recruiter sees it on my application? Obviously the Canadian law courses won't be as useful, but I am also learning many different communication skills, note taking/report writing skills, as well as some hands on training (advanced defensive driving, take downs, hand cuffing, etc).
