Update November 2021: officer has been DENIED his appeal to be rehired with back pay and attorney fees. He had been with the department for 24 years. They need to institute a regulation that in order to continue to be employed by any police department, each officer must undergo a psych test once per year.

Psych tests are unfortunately quite easy to fake or lie through, especially by police who have detailed knowledge of exactly what the questions will be and what red flags are being looked for. Psych tests are not even close to a reliable indicator of psychological fitness for the police profession - as evidenced by the sheer amount of sociopaths that breeze through the cadet training psych test in their training year.

But there still needs to be a detailed process of some sort they should go through once per year that DOESN’T INCLUDE anyone from their departments, unions or any sister institutions. Should be a completely unbiased group that has no little to no advanced knowledge of these police men and women. Too many innocent lives have been lost by insecure, inexperienced cops with a chip on their shoulder.

@@triparadox.c it's a theft but they surely can see the kid took the toy and not the parents. I don't think a toddler need to be arrested just because a $1 toy got stolen. Also from what the police acted it seems like the one who reported it probably omitted a lot of things or blown it out of the proportion. The police even asked if the cars is theirs, why asking that just because a $1 doll got stolen?? The police are just too quick to make a judgement and acted harshly, if they check the cam footage they should know if the family need to be actually arrested or just checked.

Even then for an American standard, how is it that EMS/Fire department have little to no problems unlike the police when it comes to service? They time to time get in the line of fire (friends from EMS) and yet they have better tolerance and control unlike their police peers.

You can't trust the validity of a story if a you only get one source (this video) Look around and you will see that it's not all over a doll. The whole family was shoplifting and the store saw them shoplifting which is why they called the cops. The father was seen throwing merchandise out the window prior to being pulled over.

The usual way to handle a shoplifter, is to take them to the back office to discuss the matter. If they agree to make restitution, for instance, then there's no need to involve the police. The store owners just wanted their "pound of flesh", SHAMEFULL !

The captain was defending the officer trying to justify his actions. There is no justification for how he escalated it to a deadly encounter in a parking lot and a car full of kids. He’s swearing at her she’s trying to tell him she is holding a baby and he’s tell her that he’ll kill her if she doesn’t comply. I can see why BLM are trying to bring this problem to the attention of all Americans. How many die and there is no bystander to show the abuse.

I understand that POC are targeted at a disgustingly more frequent rate than whites. But it shouldn't matter what color they are for us to be outraged by the police response(also read as excessive police response or excessive force or police brutality). I've got to stop here because I'm so overwhelmed by these police tactics here and the rant I feel surging up. The audio of this video is replaying on loop in my head, just as a trauma, and I can only imagine in horror and disgust how traumatized the children and their parents were. You can hear the fear and frustrated helplessness of the bystanders as they watch this play out, knowing that anything they do or say will only escalate what is already at a hair trigger point, but how can you simply witness this without doing anything?

i just tried googling it, i didn't see anything about criminal charges being brought against him. initially the review board recommended 240 hours of unpaid suspension but the chief ended up terminating him. the family got 475k settlement. glad he got terminated. dude didn't handle this situation well at all

Very true. There was an incident in Mesa involving Mesa PD and Mr. Robert Johnson last August that was caught on surveillance camera and made national headlines. Mesa PD did their own internal investigation, which was reviewed by a neighboring PD (Scottsdale PD), and it found that the cops were "legally justified" in its use of force. These cops all lie and protect one another. Mesa and Scottsdale PD are two of the most corrupt PD's in Arizona and possibly the entire nation. When there's an "internal investigation", you can be sure that nothing will change.

Conveniently left out of this video is the fact that the man being arrested did not pull over the vehicle right away, threw stolen merchandise out the window after leaving the store, dropped off a passenger who had warrants for her arrest (and was later arrested), and less than a year ago he was arrested for assaulting several police officers and resisting arrest. Perhaps the officers responded this way because of the actions of the perpetrator and not the color of his skin?

Cops are without excuse...cops should be trained to deescalate situation. The loud cop was on a major power trip. What were they supposed to do when they couldn't open the door. She could have been shot just because she couldn't open the door. They may have been at fault, they may have been stealing. Don't know....but that's not how you deal with petty theft. Deal with that matter if needed....but doesn't take threats of shooting and harming innocent children and pregnant women. They were not a threat to you. No excuse whatsoever for this type of behavior by cops, and certainly doesn't take 12 cops to subdue them.

The captions during the video are not accurate. This is a propaganda piece that does not tell the actual story but instead lies to get the people who view it to be angry. Clearly it's working

@@waynerobinson7057 you are putting way too much faith in this video. The captain's doing the video are not accurate. The events leading up to the video are very significant in how and why the police officers reacted the way that they did. This has nothing to do with stealing a doll and everything to do with getting in a car chase, and refusing to show your hands after the car chase concludes. If you were sitting in a vehicle of course you can stick your hands out the window even if there is a baby in your lap. Secondly, Isn't that called child endangerment!? Riding in a vehicle and getting a police chase with the kid riding on someone's lap instead of being in a car seat. But let's just overlook this because skin color

@@sethbob5742 having said that: one cop says get out of the car or I will shoot you. An other (or maybe a the same one) says hands up or I will shoot you. Which action does get you not killed? Police have to give you a chance to survive an encounter with them. This is not the case if you give contradicting orders, and either order is issued with the threat of immediate death.

He’s not a cop, he’s a dangerous coward bully with a low self esteem, armed with a badge and gun. It just amazes me that a proper psychological assessment is not done before hiring for such a responsible job. A noble job that’s supposed to support and protect people, not to threaten and terrorize them.

Seriously. In my town and area, the officers here are very uneducated and straight up jerks with big ego problems. Most of them have no chill and will bark at you even if you are calmly complying just like in the video, and for stupid things too. I have no idea how they were even hired in the first place. Psychological evaluations should be done from time to time. It's honestly a joke

@Mr B yeah don’t think twice before killing an innocent. What logic? They need to know the difference between a criminal and an innocent and behave accordingly. Fckd up excuses. It’s not about being high on empathy or low on sympathy, it’s about them being high on ego, chauvinism and sadism. Many of them will have personality/psychiatric disorders. They need to be mental asylum, not roaming around freely on roads with guns and badges.
