When Arkwright was looking for investors to continue the research and development of the oil fired internal combustion engine, which ran off vegetable oil (before mineral diesel oil was used), the government refused to endorse it because they sided with the coal people who wanted them to invest in coal burning steam engines and trucks.

400 private jets for over 35k delegates and over 45k attendants (many of which attending via regular flights as well). I guess not ideal but definitely not the big issue. Much more relevant is what they decided in the meetings (or rather what they didn't decide!)

Contrary to the oft-repeated mantra by climate extremists that today’s CO₂ concentration is unprecedentedly high, our current geologic period, the Quaternary, has seen the lowest average levels of carbon dioxide since the Precambrian. Though CO₂ concentrations briefly peaked 320,000 years ago at 300 ppm, the average for the past 800,000 years was 230 ppm (Luthi 2008). *** The death level for ALL plant life on earth is 150ppm!!! IMF estimated $11,000,000 a minute in petroleum subsidies - this is 12 years after G20 countries agreed to reduce petroleum consumption... When big corporations control the government. Lies. Meat and Dairy produce up to 60% of AGRICULTURE's greenhouse gas emission. It takes a simple Google search to learn that burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation are actually more of a problem. These are the leading emission producers in the US which has produced about 400 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. In the US only 11% of total greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 were a results of agriculture practices according to the EPA. This is 2% higher than in 2014.

15-25 year droughts are worse, coral reef extinction events are worse, Antarctic ice shelves calving to ribbons are worse, Category 5 hurricanes-typhoons with 200 mph winds are worse, total loss of the Arctic mid-summer ice sheet ... that's worse, ..... I could go on, but you're dedicated to blithe dismissals so keep on "trucking", TT. Watch out for that cliff in front of you on the road, though. They lost me when they decided in the UK to stop burning coal and mineral diesel in power stations and switched to wood pellets. !!!!!! Mom, yes dear, where do they get wood pellets from? They chop down forests dear. Or, In the UK again, we'll let all vehicles which run on steam be tax exempt because steam produces no pollution, ,dumdum. No, it’s definitely not enough. In reality, global warming shouldn’t be a problem for we knew about it for 150 years. In a book I was reading on “How The World Works”, it confirms this and it said that global warming would only be a concern if humanity did everything possible to prevent it, since there were many options they could do. E.g., reducing food waste since too much of it is wasted.

Global Warming would still occur, but if we did everything we could, we’d still be at 1 Degrees Celsius or less instead of at 1.5 Degrees Celcius, so it otherwise it wouldn’t be as serious. Global Warming wouldn’t be possible for a long time, because it isn’t just CO2 which causes it, it’s other molecules as well which are emitted such as nitrogen oxide.

When has the Economist ever been neutral? There have ALWAYS been very opinionated and having a clear, transparent and explicitly liberal (economically liberal, not "liberal" as in progressive on social or civil right issues) view and agenda. Definitely well resourced and informed, extremely articulated, and always relatively balanced and reasonable; but never neutral! Are you saying that the fact that they acknowledge climate change as a real, urgent society threatening issue (as btw 99% of the scientific community, with the exception of some secondary scientists in the payroll of the big CO2 emitters and some misinformed, ignorant or bad faith players) is considered "activism"? Would you rather have them putting both climate scientists and overwhelming evidence and climate deniers and ignorance/misinformation across the table in equal terms and on the same level, as if they were really two equally plausible opinions? Or is your beef with the Economist on something else?

So what does this mean that this meeting on climate change fell short on a lot of issues? If we are going to remake the central banking system then we have to make sure that we watch big companies profits go to where they are needed not into their pockets more cash into green energy and EVs. We also need to look into making farming better meaning if more people want to turn roofs into little farms then let them do that it would help out the hunger issue that is hurting the world. Also we need more cash and info on lab grown meat that’s another thing that could take the place of old worn out factories.

Tell the people of Pakistan how 'struggle' is going to sort out the massive changes in the monsoon cycles in recent decades... most recently leading to unimaginable floods that put over one-third of the entire country under water this year. And these same monsoon cycle changes that have lead to massive drought conditions (life is complicated Oliver, that's what education is for, ...so you can think your way through it) affecting the entire Horn of Africa region. Should these Africans 'struggle' , and "how" should they struggle, to grow enough food to survive when the land is bone dry for years now.... all their grazing animals dead as well. Should they shout at the sky to rain on them? Should they move? Europe doesn't want economic refugees from Africa, does it, Oliver. Europe prefers to see those refugees die in the Mediterranean. Those are only two 'for instances' which your pathetically self-serving rant won't do the least thing to sort out.

I think we need WW2-style rationing and price controls in the USA until we are able to significantly transition away from fossil fuel dependence. And have economic mobilization toward the transition, as we did to fight WW2. I realize this would have no political appeal. Anyone got a better idea?
