IN THIS EPISODE HooptieDoodle breaks down the total cost to buy a $350 winning bid at Copart. Guess what? It's more than $350 due to additional fees and expenses.
Copart Fees: www.copart.com/content/us/en/...
We bought a wrecked 2016 Honda CB500F from Copart (www.copart.com) for $350 and are going to rebuild it! It's an exciting experiment to see if buying wrecked bikes makes any financial sense. It's potentially an opportunity to have fun on the cheap. In this build series we'll provide lots of detail on how we bring this bike back to life. There'll be tips and mistakes. Learn from them all. Subscribe, follow along, and see if HooptieDoodle is brilliant, or an idiot - it's a fine line :)

Great job, I am glad other people have the means too pass this along. I don't have the means to acquire many bikes, but I have had some great bikes for a lot of watching, & some work. Been riding over 50 years.

Great Video, thanks. I just won a 2013 Ninja 650 bid on IAAI for $650, but the total costs came to $978.plus DMV and sales tax. I was a little surprised at the amount and am not sure if I want to go through with it. I should have done my homework.

I’m not into bikes but I have bought a few cars from IAA salvage auction, If you want to bid on any and every car In my state you need a broker. The best advice I give people is try to win the car/bike at a low auction price and try to buy local meaning at your local IAA/Copart yard, Go get the car/bike yourself or if you had to pay for transportation you won’t pay a lot because it’s in your state. It’s a lot to it but if you know what you’re doing you can get a good deal.

Agreed 👍. There is a lot of timing and patience involved - especially with the bikes as there just aren't as many, so it took me a while to locate one I wanted AND was near-ish by. I would have preferred it to be closer as the transportation costs can really inflate total cost. GREAT comment - thanks!

The amount of $ you're spending on that bike is way more than I spent on my car, and that's with the $ I spent to replace the battery wires plugs upper intake manifold lower intake gaskets water pump brakes and radiator. That's just crazy.

So the " BUYER FEE" .... How is that calculated? Is it a % of the winning bid price? Is there a chart that shows prices ranges and fees?

For the low price you paid, what about parting it out? I would think, the motor would sell for what you have into it. I have 2 coparts within 30 miles from me, and was just thinking.....
@HooptieDoodle
@HooptieDoodle Жыл бұрын
I have had similar thoughts, but my experience trying to sell motorcycle parts has also been discouraging. There doesn't seem to be much demand for parts in my experience. Perhaps if you sold online, shipped cross country, and were willing to hold onto parts till you got your price. I've still got a bunch of grom parts😀

Harley Davidsons retain their value a little better and you can get some of the newer bikes SUPER CHEAP compared to their "new prices". There is definitely some profit to be had of you fix and flip those versus sport bikes. That might be something to consider

@3:16 Quite unreasonably so, because why is the only bidding fee not a flat rate? Do they online servers have to work harder for a Bentley than for a motorcycle? @11:41 Yes, but rebuild doesn't mean good or decent. If you have done it yourself, you know what you have.

Well at least you didn't pay sales tax. As an out of state buyer I'm exempt from sales tax. They charged me anyway but said since i was exempt they'd refund me. Calling customer service. They gave me an email of which nobody will respond. Rip off.

Man buying something that is gonna cost more than a regular bike.. then selling it will be a problem with salvage title plus dealing rebuilding it., a wrecked bike no thank you compare prices salvage vs regular bike adding the copart fees is a no for me.

No idea what you're talking about. Maybe for this little pos it isn't worth it. However there's other vehicles & motorcycles that are. To say as a whole Copart isn't a good place is a stupid assumption.
