Hi, I am a born and raised dane. Just to make it clear to anyone watching and learning about Denmark through this video, going to the doctor and school is "free" because we pay for it through taxes. We do pay to have those systems, we just do not pay for each session at the doctor or each month at school. Everyone has to pay taxes in Denmark, but depending on your individual income, you pay a high, medium, or low level of taxes. The taxes paid by everyone is used to upkeep the health and educational systems. I really like it that way, it makes it possible for people from families with small incomes to go to public schools and receive health care. I do agree that it is one of the best things about Denmark, I just want to make it clear that it is not entirely free, it is simply payed through taxes :) I love the weekly uploads Birta, keep up the good work :)

You only have to work qualifying hours as a student if you want the free money (SU grant) as a foreign EU citizen studying here. Danes don't have the work requirement. They introduced the (small) work requirement because many many students were coming to Denmark for the free education and free monthly grant, then leaving immediatly after their studies were finished. It was a bit unfair for Danish citizens to support so many students who didn't stick around to become tax-paying citizens (for at least a little while). It was also quite unsustainable to provide free education and free monthly grants to so many foreign students, hence requiring them to work 10 or 15 hours a week contributes to the tax system. (Hope that clarifies it.)

Although I’ve never been to Copenhagen yet, I originally LOVE the hygge and beautiful atmosphere of cafes/restaurants in Denmark including the food/interior so much that I want to live in there for a few years at some point in my future.
