The home behind me was vacant for a year and I got tired of seeing the grass look like a redwood forest. I then took it upon myself to mow it but did not know that some latinos had purchased the home just not yet moved in. They came in and caught me mowing it one day and ran over asked me what the heck I was doing and I explained to them I was helping them out. They then painted my home for free and started bringing me home cooked meals LOL. The owner came over and said his painter crew was joking about how its the gringo that was mowing the hispanics lawn but we have become very good family friends LOL

I was a single mother for ten years. I worked multiple jobs. Sometimes, I would come home to find that my retired neighbor had mowed my lawn when he did his. It was so appreciated!!!

We had a good neighbour too that mowed our grass when we we're on vacation.. sadly they divorced and he moved away. Good man indeed, more neighbours like that.

My husband and I bought our first house last May but didn't move in until July while we did some updates and waited out our apartment lease. If someone mowed my lawn for free I would have never complained! 😂 I think this is an excellent gesture and hopefully inspires more to pay it forward and do acts and services of kindness ❤

I had a neighbor that lived across the street from me a couple of years ago at a house I was renting with my family when we were between selling a house and buying a new one. I noticed that he was going through a pretty tough time with what appeared to be a divorce or separation and listing the house for sale. He would come home just about everyday with a case of beer and head inside for the night. I think he was kind of depressed or just didn't care anymore because he had let his yard go. The neighborhood had an HOA too, so they were pretty hard on people not keeping up with their yards. I would go home at lunch and mow the yard over a couple days and his yard was so small I would just knock it our for him.

As a teen I worked as a pool cleaner for a company. I drove from house to house and had about 8 pools to clean per day. One day I complete all my jobs and head home. Later that day I get a call from my boss about a complaint that I didn’t show up, I assured him I did. Turns out I cleaned the wrong houses pool. I’ve always wondered what they thought happened to their pool and how all the acorns and algae disappeared...

I lived in San Antonio for a year and when I slacked on my lawn care one of my neighbors would go do it for me just without saying anything. I think it secretly annoyed him when I didnt cut the grass so he'd do it while I was at school. And I didn't have a string trimmer so when I was done mowing he would take it upon himself to do the edging and trimming for me lol. Nice guy overall 👌

What a great thing you did and for free!! I’m a single 66 yo senior and I called a man to mow my yard and the grass was really high. It was starting to get dark when he came but I paid him $70 and the next day when I could see, it looked like it hadn’t even been mowed. I was sick. He even missed big spots. That $70 was just thrown away and I still need it mowed!!!

that is cool! I did that as a kid for a neighbor who had surgery. 3 of us neighborhood kids took care of her yard for her while she got better. She was a total crank before that but the sweetest lady after. Sometimes it just takes a kind act to melt a jaded heart.

When my next door neighbor lost their house a few years ago, I mowed the yard that whole summer before the house was resold by the bank. It just made my place look better. An empty house with a grown up yard attracts the wrong people, like squatters. Good job.....

When I was a teenager, our next door neighbor was a elderly lady who was in her late 80s. My brother and I often mowed her postage stamp sized front yard when we did ours. At the time, there was no dividing wall and she never said anything about it. We were not sneaky about it and it added only a few minutes of lawn care time for us. 😊 As for you, you are a sneaky lawn trimming ninja! 😂

It looks greener and healthier than the ones on either side, because it has a strong deep root system with long blades to produce nutrients that have not been damaged by lawnmower blades. Also, the two on either side are cut to short, to often and guess what they turned brown.

I mow my neighbors yard. She is in a nursing home. It's about an acre. And so is mine. It was a good excuse to buy a new zero turn I wanted.

I mowed three neighbors lawns when they were on vacation so they wouldn't have an overgrown lawn. Did it several times. Went in for heart surgery triple bypass ....... No one even offered to do mine. Lesson learned. Never again

"who's going to get mad that you're mowing grass for them?" Umm my neighbor, I knew that their mower caught on fire so I decided to help him and mow his lawn for him and he went and had our properties assessed and had flags put up and everything. Some people take that very personally. :-(

I own a large paint company and once sent a crew with a competent lead person to a home to start the prep work one morning. Well around 11 o'clock the homeowner called and said no one showed up to work on their home. Of course I panicked and called my guys to find out they were two streets over prepping the wrong house. By the time I arrived they had pressure washed the entire house and had the front of the house including a huge front porch railing caulked along with some other stuff. Long story short. I gave those folks a free paint job on their house. For Christmas that year though those same folks mailed me a 1000. dollar check to help cover the expenses I laid out for a 4000. paint job on their home. Felt truly blessed to have them do that out of their hearts.

Life used to be this way,neighbors helping neighbors. I miss it.

There's a "growing" movement of people who garden for nature. During Lockdown I dug a large wildlife pond. I started letting the grass grow long around it to offer shelter for frogs and newts but the other wildlife it attracted encouraged me to 'rewild' the whole lawn; now meadow! Gazing over tall swaying grasses and wildflowers dancing with damselflies, butterflies and bees is so much more rewarding than the lifeless monoculture that is a pristinely manicured lawn. During the recent drought mine was the sole patch of green. If some stranger turned up and started to mow my meadow they'd swiftly be introduced to the hounds!

That person actually has a pretty nice lawn. The house next door looks like they mistook their lawnmower for a rototiller

I literally just did this a few weeks ago for a foreclosed house across from my parents' house. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's insane.

I appreciate this so much as I was concerned about buying battery powered lawn equipment for St. Aug grass. I loved the fact that it was overgrown and it handled it. You gave me confidence that battery machinery is just as good or better.

It's so sad how, in our society, someone has to be scared to do such a selfless and generous act of kindness such as yours (victimless as you called it) because it would be considered 'trespassing' to mow a lawn for a house that is on sale. We shouldn't have to be so afraid to want to help eachother out and or any living being on this planet! You should be able to mow that lawn for the hour (however long) it took you to mow it without being in fear that you may get noticed and get in trouble. I personally thank you, that was very sweet and selfless of you!♡

I posted a comment 2 weeks ago saying I wished this would happen to me. IT JUST NOW HAPPENED!!! I mowed most of it but I’ve been sick the past couple days and didn’t have the steam to finish the back yard. So I’m watching End of Watch and I hear a mower nearby but assumed it was a neighbor. Then I see a guy I’ve never seen before (small town here) ride past the front on a mower, and he wasn’t a neighbor so who was mowing? I go look out back AND THE REST OF MY LAWN WAS CUT! I tried to run out front to thank him but he was already gone, looking for his next random lawn to mow. I love this small town life, where everybody helps each other no matter how trivial

I mowed my neighbors lawn for free all last year. Her husband did something stupid and went to jail for 18 months. Anyway, I did it for free without asking because she needed help.

Suggestion for all those other peeps with mowers at home: Take half deck width passes when the grass is that long. Stops you from having to do the lift and re-mow action he was doing. Yes, it takes slightly longer but your mow will be cleaner, keeps the blade speed up for a cleaner grass blade cut, grass will be healthier.

Not a professional just a homeowner the other day I ended up mowing three large homes, but I always ask never know when someone has just had their yard sprayed or seeded as some other people have mentioned I also don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so I always ask now when my neighbors can't mow due to illness or money I call them and ask would they like me to do it sometimes they stop by and ask if I can I do it for them. the same with my snowblower. Lately my new neighbors have been from Bosnia and turkey and they have been very grateful when I could help them out I get free vegetables and pastries they know I'm watching out for them and their kids and I get invited to BBQs Etc. It's really cool because I get to learn about their cultures and they know that they have been welcomed to The neighborhood I never charged but if they want to give me some gas I don't turn them down cuz I know it makes them feel better. I always make sure if one of my neighbors goes on vacation that their lawn is taken care of the day before they come back that way they can come home and relax. I guess maybe I should turn it into a business but I like not being required to do the yards. Our only kids are our German Shepherds but now we are being adopted by multiple youngsters. it is wonderful to see the neighborhood turn young again and it will be nice to know as I get too old to do this that may be one of those youngsters will help us out.
