A fun couple of days of late spring herping in Georgia! Good diversity, and some good finds sprinkled in too!
There will probably be one or two more Georgia videos, then Texas!

Thanks for the info on cottonmouths. It helps lessen the fear of them, seeing that cottonmouth trying to get away from you rather than being aggressive.

I love green snakes so much; I remember catching them when I was a child! While we were dating, my BF showed me an old picture of him, playing with a beautiful rough green snake; I immediately knew he was the one! 20 years together and we have a ball python and a king snake of our own.

There's nothing wrong with garter snakes. Racers are the ones I see most of the time, and a black racer got in the house so I took it outside and let it go. If they lived longer than 10 years, I would've tried to keep it in addition to the rat snake I got from a pet store.

One of my friends that is terrified of snakes came over to my house. Now I have a few vipers and a couple nice beautiful king snakes. The one snake I so want is a hognose. But the reason I want one isn't a good reason so I never will own one. I just like watching them play dead and I never seen one in real life do it. So to buy one and basically torcher any snake is not my thing. Anyway my friend, I finally convinced him to hold my garder snake Jessie. Now as long as I have had Jessie, she has never once tried to bite me or anyone else that I know about. I pick her up and she was a little cool but nothing out of the ordinary. I hand her to him and this happened so fast that I'm not sure what happened. I think he might have had her to tight and could have hurt her or something. Anyway I had to rush him to the ER that was about 1 mile away from my house. He is highly allergic to the snake bite. He went into anaphylactic shock. I have NEVER seen this happen and I was freaking the hell out. I honestly thought my boy was going to die before I got him there. I was on the phone with the hospital and the nurse was able to calm me down. She flat out said that even if he stops breathing that we still had a couple of minutes to get him back without any brain damage!! Oh I guess she thought it was going to make me feel better. Nope it did however make me test out my brand new truck though. I got him there just as the people from the hospital was running out with a wheelchair. The last thing he told before he couldn't breathe was and I quote " I'M GOING TO KILL YOU IF I LIVE THROUGH THIS ". Now if I thought that he would have killed me, I don't know if OLE SCOTTIE would have made it in time. Lol. I told his momma and wife what he told me and they said wow, are you serious? I said yep I sure am. Anyway about 9 hours later he came to my house and I did something that was kinda stupid now thinking back, but hell I told his wife what I was going to do. I took my .40 call and unloaded it and yes I triple checked it too. He walks in and I stopped him before he could say a word. I handed him my gun and said just don't say anything and make it quick, just know that I am truly sorry and I love you know matter what you do. Scott started crying and said that is wasn't my fault and it was his. It took both his wife and I to calm him back down. We talked about what had happened and that the chances of him being allergic to a snake that is kinda venomous but not really venomous was so slim that it never crossed my mind at all. We came to the conclusion that, yes he has a very clear cut reason to be afraid of snakes and not to mess with them. He said I can't believe that you were going to let me shoot you. He wife starts laughing and said you idiot, you really think he was going to hand you a loaded gun? He said well I guess not now. At that point I had already put the clip in. I said well let's just see buddy. I dropped that full clip and his wife slapped the ever living crap out of me. She said I can't believe you!!!!! It was supposed to be a joke, you really did hand him a loaded gun!!!! I said no I put the clip back in when I was walking to put it back up. She started laughing and said damn you should have just said no it was unloaded. I said yeah I should not have been playing with a gun either but we all did. I am only telling this story for 1 reason and 1 e Reason only. No matter if the snake is venomous or not, be careful and make dog on sure that you are not allergic to anything before you mess with one. Now the gun part was just a joke and we were planning to do it. But my butt told me not to. Most people get shot by unloaded guns all the time. It was a freak accident that couldn't have been predicted at anytime. Now I know not to hand my snakes to anyone else. Oh and come to find out, he was playing with a frog while I was in the bathroom. So it was a feeding response that made her bite his thumb. Good night everyone and please stay safe.

Really enjoying your videos 52 been herping since I was a kid. Grew up in Florida before all the habitat destruction. Seen many huge indigo in the 70s the biggest measured slightly larger than 9 ft my family owned a large track of land in Geneva Florida my own personal oasis .as a child I caught an seen many eastern diamond backs on that property along with many other species. Snakes turtles frogs and lizards started me on my current career as a wildlife trapper. I live in Canton Georgia now teaching my daughters the value of conservation by educating them about the animals I love. Always looking for sites to release the snakes I remove from homes and businesses. On weekends or good days we road cruise for hero’s. Sadly I am finding many dead snakes and turtles we usually go from canton on 575 north into North Carolina an Tennessee. Found some beautiful milksnakes and kings near Blue ridge. Monitoring some nice timbers in Gainesville several large gravid females. Maybe some night we will run into you.

I can't believe you wear sandals when you're out at night hunting snakes. I'd be wearing boots up to my knees. I used to catch water snakes down at the creek by my house when I was younger. They're not very friendly. I tried to keep one as a pet, but I let him go after a few days after he bit me a bunch of times. The neighbors would always tell me my common water snakes were cottonmouths.

If you want to find a Hognose, you’ll have to put some effort into finding a spot. Try to find a park that has at least some sandy prairie. Hogs are almost never flipped, so you’ll have to go off trail and try to hike one. Also, make sure not to give up. Even my best hog spot only produces every once in a while. Good luck!
