Brooklyn, New York City
No ticket given.

* It was legal to enter the intersection on yellow/complete the turn when red. NYC DMV states:
Example: You want to turn left at an intersection ahead. A vehicle reaches the intersection from the opposite direction and moves straight ahead. You must wait for approaching traffic to go through before you turn. You may enter the intersection to prepare for your left turn if the light is green and no other vehicle ahead of you plans to make a left turn (see "Turns" later in this chapter). When you enter the intersection, keep to the right of the center line. Keep your wheels straight to prevent a push into oncoming traffic if a rear-end collision occurs. When traffic headed toward you clears or stops for a red light, complete your turn.

Why? In their state, they have the right of way to turn right on a red light. The cammer broke a red light and moved into a new lane and obstructed their right of way. Cammer is the one who is in the wrong.

Not in NYC- there's no legal right turns unless there's a sign posted. Cammer entered on green, light turned yellow, yielded to a car already in the intersection. I don’t think it would work in this case to have a rear camera. Judging from the size of the intersection and the height of the car, the rear camera might not have been able to pick up anything useful. The front camera picked up all that was needed. There doesn’t appear to be a light that would indicate for turning left only, meaning there’s a good chance the lights the cops saw were the same. Which in that case, both light would be turning red at the same time and the cops did indeed run the red as the light was red before they crossed the white line. Whereas the cammer was already past the white line when the light was yellow. I do agree it’s good to have both, but I don’t think it would’ve picked up the lights the cops were seeing in this case.

The cop entered the intersection when the light was already red. The guy was already in the intersection when the light was yellow he had no choice but to turn. If there was a red light camera the cop would of got a ticket.

No he never has to turn, you can sit and wait til cop comes to complete stop, and it would be fine. If you are already in the intersection you get to go first before others facing a green can go. So, he should have waited till it was %100 safe before turning.

The dash cam car entered on green, the cop car entered on red; end of story. The officers tried to bully the driver, even though they were clearly wrong. I would have encouraged them to give me a ticket, so they can look like fools in court.

Inline Downhill Vancouver - Try .25 play speed. At .02 the light was green and you could see the entire crosswalk. By .03 the light was yellow and the crosswalk had just disappeared from view. Based on the camera height and the angle looking over the hood that means his bumper was barely in the middle of the crosswalk. On drivers test of what does a yellow light mean, checking the box for: "enter intersection anyway so I can make the light" is the WRONG answer. In short this guy decided: 'screw it I'm not waiting'. So my 'question' is really a statement of "Get your head out of your ass".

New York laws do not prohibit entering an intersection on a yellow light. Do not confuse handbooks with laws. A yellow light is only an indication that the light will soon turn red. Even if the intersection begins after the crosswalk and not the stop line, the dash cam car still entered on a yellow. New York City Traffic Rules: "(2) Steady yellow alone, dark period, or red-green combined when shown following the green signal: (i) Vehicular traffic facing such signal is thereby warned that the red signal will be exhibited immediately thereafter and such vehicular traffic shall not enter the intersection when the red signal is exhibited."

Edward Sponenberg so you're saying he shouldve slammed on the brakes as soon as the yellow light came on? he was already entering the intersection when the light turned yellow if the light wouldve turned yellow before he started entering it would be a whole different story. He was already over the crosswalk/stop line when the light turned yellow if he would've stopped there he'd be blocking the crosswalk. The police was still behind the crosswalk when the light turned red and he still ran it.

Actually it varies by state... AZ you are legally allowed to proceed if you entered the intersection before it turned red. CO you must reasonsbly be able to assume you can clear the intersection before it turns red in order to legally enter it (IDK why I wasn't issued my crystal ball when I was issued my license)

To all the people saying the cammer ran a red too: As the cammer was entering the intersection the light turned yellow and when it turned red, oncoming traffic is supposed to stop also giving him a chance to make the turn(Completely legal to pull into an intersection to make a left turn when the light is green and is so annoying when people who dont know how to drive stop in the left turn lane to make a left instead of the intersection) but instead the officers tried making it through the intersection even through the light was red before they entered.

Brenda, sad to say, but you right. I think most people have gotten so caught up in a situation that you start thinking emotionally and not rationally. Even though I've had specialized training to recognize it, I still have done it myself. I don't believe the cop in this video is an asshole as many would like to believe, just in the heat of the moment he thought he was in the right. I honestly believe that if he ever sees this video he would probably think, ; Wow, I sure thought I was further into the intersection than that. Oh God, how could I have been so wrong. I acted like a fool. I've been in his shoes. Most police are actually good, with minor human screw up we all have. But in todays cop bashing society we seem to focus mostly of the bad.

@0:05 light is red for both the driver and the cop. The difference being the driver was already at the intersection as the light turned red. The cop's only move at this point is to not eat the red light. The driver has been at the intersection for some time and the light has turned red while he has waited. The driver is the one that can proceed. The cop is supposed to stop at the red light.

If you don't tell someone you're recording, you're more likely to have to waste your time in court but more likely to win if it comes to that. If you tell someone you're recording, 1) they might hurt you more now that they know you are recording 2) they also might realize maybe they fucked up/its not worth it and let you go. Ultimately it's a gamble.

I would show the video in court then demand the prosecutor charge the idiot cop/terrorist with perjury, falsifying police reports, and treason. And I would offer the cop a plea for the death penalty without forcing his family to see his execution. Otherwise if convicted I would force his family including children to see him hung.

Many years ago, traffic lights changed immediately. Now they have a 2 to 4 seconds delay before changing to account for impatient red light running dipshits.

yeah, just let them give you the ticket and then dispute it in court. There is no point arguing with the cops. They aren't going to not give you a ticket. Instead, it's more likely they'll give you another one for something else, and if you're in bad luck, that 2e or even 3e ticket might actually be a valid one...

For all the stupid kids who want to try to voice themselves without researching the law: If you enter the intersection before the light turns red then you are not illegally running a red light. If you are behind the crosswalk after the light turns red then you can no longer proceed to drive through the light. The driver, past the light already, yielded for the car in front of the cop car that made it through the light. He should have then been able to make his turn as the light turned red for the cop. The cop RUNS the red light and almost causes a wreck. Seriously it's sad to have to explain it like this

I probably would have let them write a ticket and then let them testify in court to what happened. Then bring the video out and PROVE in court on the record that the cops lied under oath.

The pigs will simply claim they made an honest mistake and at the time they were doing their job of ticketing the driver for dangerous driving. The judge / court will side with the low life lying cops. The best case scenario is the ticket dismissal at the cost of your time, patience, energy and lost income. Of course, they would have also tacked on other bogus charges like belligerent attitude, license plate obstructed, plate not visible from 50 feet and any other bullshit under the sun. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

The light would turn red for both of them at the same time in that specific type of intersection. Dumbass fucking cop 100% ran the red light and then tried to blame it on him. I would have gladly took a ticket because there is zero chance he would lose that in court and guarantee the cop wouldn’t show for it once he checks his own dash cam footage

Max Contreras I’d say about 99.9%. I would say 100% but who knows there’s probably some waky street in the middle of no where with a broken light. It definitely was the case here as you can see the side lights turn green after the red light.

Nah bruh the driver here is right. He was over the line already, thus unable to stop as it turned yellow. Any reasonable driver THAT far away, as the cop was, would slow down and stop. Not rush through it. Bad on the cop

Pause the video right at 0:05 and you see he was clearly in the intersection as the light is still yellow and the cop isn’t even at the line yet 😂

Adam Caretta if I’m not mistaken in the state of New York you cannot enter an intersection unless if it is clear to continue forward on the other side, or clear to turn so you are not blocking traffic when the light changes and also to avoid accidents if a red light is ran. It is illegal in most state but not commonly enforced. dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/chapter-5-intersections-and-turns
