For years, Coral Gables homeowner Orlando Capote has resisted attempts to buy him out, even as a new mixed-use development took over the rest of the neighborhood.

Absolute absurdity. This is local officials using tactics to flex on this poor man. The developer, the commission, and the lobbyist abusing their power for monetary gain. Ever wonder why a commissioner on a $100,000 salary Lives in a 5 million dollar home, this is just one of their ways.

lol. you are missing what they are doing. There is more than one way to get rid of him and if it didnt happen in the first try they are now using fines and administration cost to overwhelm him with fines that if not paid, they will take his property, with a lien, sell it to the highest bidder which will be the development there since no one in their right mind will buy it, and thus rid themselves of him ...

Our ranch in bunker hill was taken by the city by eminent domain after we refused to sell our home. The developers Geoffrey Palmer illegally bulldozed our 1890 Victorian Home and built the Orsini Apartments in downtown Los Angeles in 2003-2004. Instead of $5 million, we were given $500 and 30 days to leave. We had to abandon our vehicles and belongings due to the dangerous construction going on around your house. The Developers that built around Mr. Capote’s house knew he was not willing to sell and they still went on with their project, building around him. So they concluded his home was/is now a part of that new building blueprint and cosmetic foundation. The developers have to accept that Mr. Capote was there before, during and after their project and it will so help him God remain that way! Let him live peacefully! They all need to ask themselves how would they feel if that was done to their elder father or even to them one day?! Sad enough that they took away the light and beauty of the home and from Mr. Capote! 😔

this man represents the true american hero. he is actually standing up for democracy in the us and fighting corruption and government abuse of power. there is a long history of governments abusing private property owners, stealing their lands and homes or forcing them to leave or sell through the operations of eminent domain. usually the state and private corporations or companies get together and try to make things happen their way, violating the rights of private citizens and the dear Constitution, which text means nothing to them. the audacity of the developers in stating that he is in their way. God bless this man and his family.
