In my last video, I used a CNC 3018 to make a plate and an E3D V6 heatsink mount for the Sapphire Plus CoreXY printer. After last week's video, I modified the design a little bit to make it fit better and made it able to attach to some existing components like the BLtouch and the cooling fans.
A major drawback of this setup is the height. Since the Volcano is much taller than other hotends, you will lose 15-20mm print volume on the Z-Axis. The lead screw support plate also needs to be removed, so it can provide enough clearance for the volcano hotend.
Let’s see how it works when print at 60mm/s, 120mm/s and 240mm/s ...

It is really impressive what you two are able to make with the 3018, and really nice touch to share the design files. I’m looking forward to what you do next for cooling on the Sapphire Plus.

Quick tip when cutting aluminium (especially small pieces) on the mitre saw. Use a sacrificial board (mdf) behind the cut, this stops the piece from getting jammed in the slot. Also safety goggles! Even on a quick cut, you do not want to catch a chip in your eye. It is not fun at all. Great content though. I’ve just recently found the channel and have been watching all the back catalogue. Well done guys. 👏🏻

i printed 240mm/s with totally stock setup, and quite large parts. for 330$ shipped this printer is great value, but people still keep complaining.

Hi! Yes, the Sapphire Plus is a very solid printer. I will also do a review on the Bluer Plus. It's also a good printer, with amazing hard configuration at a super low price, and just with a few minor issues. In fact, most budget printers have similar kinds of issues, but I think the Sapphire Plus and Bluer Plus are definitely worth their prices.

Great video! Congratulations 🙂👍 I still have the Sapphire Plus running Marlin and the biqu H2 direct drive extruder. Would like to upgrade it to Can Bus toolhead and Klipper / Duet Board since I have one laying around. Also the wobble Z might be interesting.

Again great work !!! Very professional and helpful! I'm wondering if you would like upgrade the Sapphire plus to direct extruder and maybe also with resonance sensor to improve the high speed quality. Currently there is a High Speed Printing Kit for SP-5 available, which looks quiet interessting. I will upgrade my Sapphire with that, but looking for information about the resonance sensor.

Great video. For the high speed printing definitly cooling is the limit. Have you ever tried the Berd air solution using pipes and an air compessor? Altogether this printer seem to be a nice base for tinkering, improving the quality of fast prints. Beside testing Berd Air I would also consider Klipper - with an sensor for accelleration for input shaping to reduce ringing on high speed. You should be able to nearly get the same quality on 240mm/s like on 60mm/s
@maiorciprian
@maiorciprian 3 жыл бұрын
You need to look into getting Klipper on this machine if you want to print fast. You`ll need a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4. 2 or Zero will work too but don`t support using a camera. Once you install Klipper you can use Input Shaper and Pressure Advance to tune the machine for speed. To really have actual 240 mm/s in such a short distance as that 20mm cube you`d need crazy 10-15k acceleration. That was more like 100-120 mm/s max. And your cooling part assumption is correct. Especially for PLA you`ll need lots more cooling to print at those speeds and maybe print 2 cubes at once so it has a chance to cool between layers.

No special reason, I am quite happy with this printer so I put a better BLtouch, nothing wrong with the stock 3D touch.

I would add or design a rounded fan duct. Those blowers are not that great for fans. You might be able to get away with an Orbiter extruder. Its only about 150g total weight. I have that extruder for my FLSUN QQS Pro. You might be able to mod the plate some more to raise the hotend. Maybe even cut more material out to lighten it up. just some ideas to think about.

Nice. Have you tried with silicone sock, plated nozzle and bi metal heatbreak? On my volcano it's much better. Which firmware you are using? And have your removed the timing belt between both z steppers for this zx level feature?

Is using a CNC the same as 3D printing? Can I generate G-code for cnc as easy as 3d print?
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! It requires more steps than 3D printing. You need to use CAM software to generate G-code, but I will make more videos to show how to do that!

www.aliexpress.com/item/32844080369.html If you print PLA/PETG/ABS or anything less than 250C, select PTFE lining or Bore version, if you print high temp filament, select all metal version. But don't use all metal version to print PLA, it will clog.
@jon9947
@jon9947 3 жыл бұрын
@@AuroraTech Thanks. People tell me the same thing with my Micro Swiss, but it prints PLA perfectly, just have to set your retraction correctly. I was just looking for a proven Volcano, most of the reviews of the ones on Amazon are sketchy. It is mostly going to be printing PETG though.

I definitely would like to see the CoreXY Sapphire Plus 3D printing at really high speeds such as 1000mm/s or getting at least close to it with the same quality finish as this video below: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6-dbNSKtd-UXXk.html this printer seems to have a nice and quite strong frame structure to get started with upgrading for higher speeds. Some nice content would be pretty much well appreciated. I am also trying to increase speeds on this printer but very slowly. When I have some nice results I'll share on my KZfaq channel. I am aiming for the 1000mm/s and 30000mm/s acceleration with as little modifications as possible

I don't think removing the lead screw plates is the best design decision, you would probably try re look at the design to keep the lead screw on the frame
